Tesla releases big, new software update with Disney+, Car Wash Mode, remain connected to wifi, and more - 2021.24.x

On 18th Aug I had a 2021.24.3 notification on the phone that it was downloaded & ready to update, but before I got around to starting it a few hours later, it had already be wiped out. I suspect this kind of urgent retraction only happens when there is a major malfunction affecting [AP] safety.

I don't believe it makes any difference in that case.

    2020.36.12

Probably best not to do update while it's in the workshop, as it immobilises the vehicle for up to 45mins, which may cramp their style somewhat.

    HW3 Install Time

My upgrade (MS HW2.5 > 3) took 1hr50mins between dropoff & SMS notification to collect (on 6th May), then ~20km of driving on way home for camera calibration. Saved seat settings, browser favourites, etc., were all transferred to new HW. Overall a very smooth & painless process!

    2020.28.1

This one seems to be totally biased to Europe at the early stage, which raises suspicions ... that some more pain-in-the-arse UN/ECE regulations are being incorporated ... or (seeing is believing) actually fixed, like that idiotic 5s cutoff for indicating to overtake. Ah what the hell, am...

noob question - fsd vs ap?

Yes, FSD has mostly not happened yet. According to Tweet today from Musk, the latest rewrite of AP/FSD code, to give the system an holistic 3D view of the world/obstacles, is nearing completion and could maybe get released to customers by EoY...

Proper order that negligent drivers get hauled over the coals in court. AP is no valid excuse for causing easily avoidable collisions.

    Just ordered FSD

Re. HW3 upgrade, try booking it on the app, with no other repairs ... if they don't immediately cancel the appointment then it's probably going to go through. I booked on 24th Apr and had the upgrade on 6th May (in Switzerland tho) and know others who have done the same here. Things were...

    2020.20.5 has improvements to GPS

I've heard Karpathy several times in his presentations mention wheel-ticks, steering angle, etc, as some of the inputs they are working with for AP, so it appears the answer is yes. The uBlox Neo-M8L-05B DGPS unit used by Tesla is capable of CEP =1.5m in horizontal and =3m in vertical plane...

Will HW3 REALLY deliver FSD ? some questions

Yes, can confirm this is true since I got the retrofit HW2.5 > HW3 in early May. On the same software [2020.12.1] the difference in smoothness [accel/decel] on motorway was quite noticeable. Also does not overshoot/oscillate into the exit lane nearly so much when leaving. In any case all of...

    2020.24.6

Yep, have noticed the same problem quite frequently. The only possible solution to this (in Europe) is that, if it is first up, FSD must stop the car up to 5m before reaching the line, such that all lights pertinent to that lane remain in view of the cameras.

Regen causing unintended acceleration, according to new study?

This Belt character is a notorious crank who garbs his CTs in dense technobabble and has been on the same "sudden unintended acceleration" trip since the original Toyota hysteria. To call his output a "scientific article" is in itself extreme misinformation, whether done innocently or...

CVPR 2020 Workshop on "Scalability in Autonomous Driving" LIVE DISCUSSION

Humans learn to drive without pinging radio pulses from their nose so why has Tesla been stuck in the local optimum of relying on a crappy radar, mainly to produce phantom braking events, for the last 4 years? Karpathy stated in Apr. 2019 that it's belatedly being used as a ground truth input...

Tesla 3 crashes into overturned truck on highway

No, it's just that humans have an amazing ability to zone out of boring tasks where nothing remarkable usually happens for long periods. Then when something unexpectedly does, it takes a second to refocus and become aware of the need for emergency manoeuvres.

Tesla 3 crashes into overturned truck on highway

If that were tire smoke from an emergency braking, why did the car not pitch forward as force transferred onto the front wheels? Review the video: the aspect of M3 in the longitudinal horizontal plane remains absolute stable as it passes over this patch producing the spray. Which is impossible...

Tesla 3 crashes into overturned truck on highway

There should be no smoke from tires, due to ABS, and braking with full force at that point should have (just about) stopped the M3 short of impact in any case. Someone remarked above that this "smoke" is probably spray generated from a fluid/powder spilled on the road by the truck when it...

Elon: "Feature complete for full self driving this year"

Yes, I got my retrofit to HW3 on May 6th -- only differences so far are AP is noticeably smoother in acceleration/braking on motorway, IC visualisation of lights, cones & road-markings -- but stopping at lights is supposed (per Elon Tweet) to be activated in Q3.2020. Phantom-braking for...

Tesla 3 crashes into overturned truck on highway

The fact that the M3 never deviated from dead-centre of the lane, even in the final 30m for the truck-driver who was stood intruding significantly into the lane to wave traffic down and had to jump back in the last second to avoid being clipped by the wing mirror, confirms for me that autosteer...

Tesla 3 crashes into overturned truck on highway

Looks very much like the classic phenomenon that a tech-enthused Tesla driver was zoned out for at least 15 critical seconds while on AP @70mph, possibly relying on the "HillyBilly L3 Upgrade Package" aka an orange or whatever jammed in the steering wheel while tending to email. Luckily for...

Will Tesla be able to deliver FSD with HW3.0 and current Model 3 sensor suite, ever?

    1. Try strangling it with one hand only! Just joking, but do realise the steering sensor relies on torque, not grip strength. With elbow resting on windowsill the weight of one hand at 9 o'clock is enough to keep it happy. 2. Also, handling stop signs & roundabouts are not activated yet in...

Will Tesla be able to deliver FSD with HW3.0 and current Model 3 sensor suite, ever?

    FSD or not FSD

I bought FSD for $5k with the car in 2018, intending to hold it for 20 years. I expect it will achieve L4 with HW4 and a new 3D integrated radar sensor by Jan 2024. Meantime I got the upgrade to HW3 a fortnight ago and notice a significant improvement in AP, so am quite happy enough with the...

Sure but HCQ + Zinc are cheap as chips generics, thus much more widely available worldwide. I think in e.g. India, Turkey or Brazil, Remdesivir must be fairly scarce and/or prohibitively expensive. I believe in the former 2 countries, at least, HCQ is very much part of the treatment strategy...

It reflects in the auto-worker accident statistics, wherein USA is comparatively horrific. I've personally seen examples over there (e.g. bodyshop at Ford, Kansas City) of how safety circuits were bridged out *in hard- and software* so that one could open a supposedly "foolproof interlocked"...
