Waking up IC on bench without MCU

you can redeploy firmware by going into service mode. hold down the "model S" in the "service" menu page and then when the dialog box pops up type "service". should go into service mode and one of the options will be "redeploy firmware".

2018 P100D Unable to drive and screen not working, but lights and doors open. Had 12V replaced 2 months ago and MCU2 infotainment upgrade last year

I've just had a MCU2 failure on Sunday. MCU main screen is constantly rebooting, binnacle screen works OK but no way to get it out of Park (Car off) and I have Pin to drive on so also can't ever get the main screen to a point I can enter the PIN. App works OK for almost all functions but can't...

    350V 85/90 kWh - not Ludicrous compatible

Just to be clear - I agree you deserve to have a new pack which is capable of the performance and hasn't been chargegated/batterygated etc. but this is Tesla we're dealing with - you're on dangerous ground sending back a pack that in many respects is better than the one they swapped it out for!
  5. T

    350V 85/90 kWh - not Ludicrous compatible

Yeah you want to be careful with that one - last thing you want is for your brand new *free* 350v pack to be replaced with a 5 year old 400v chargegated pack just for the sake of "Ludicrous". That really would be ludicrous!

It could be just me but my Plaid has really uncomfortable seats

also the tilt angle can make a big difference. Apologies if you already know this, but make sure the front edge of the seat is tight up against your legs, so the load is spread from your bum to the back of your knees (or as close as possible).

    Overseas charging?

but CCS1 and CCS2 are completely different and not compatible, and Tesla don't make a CCS2 to "Tesla" adapter, only CCS2 to Type 2 Image from "thedriven.io"

Sell 2014 Model S before 8 Year warranty expires?

From what I can tell, no-one ever "had a module replaced". it seems that when you have a battery fail in warranty: 1. Tesla replace it with a remanufactured pack - one which had a fault with a connector, or a BMS board, or a cooling hose or something "non-cell" related; 2. Tesla replace it with...
  9. T

    Overseas charging?

yes, but the actual charge port is a Type 2 on all UK/EU Teslas, so the CCS2 adapter won't go into a US Tesla without a whole new chargeport.
  10. T

    Overseas charging?

In all honesty I'd imagine selling your car and buying another one over there would work out better though. Also, why have you had to pay for a drive unit if you're under 8 years? should be unlimited miles/8 years warranty (unless the car was first off the line in 2014 and only failed in the...
  11. T

    Overseas charging?

might be worth considering getting a new chargeport - I'm not sure it's technically possible, but if it were, then you could do it and have a basically Euro spec model S so you could supercharge (in mainland Italy and the rest of Europe) and use public chargers. Everything in Europe is Type 2...

    Battery Replacement Cost

It's about probability of failure. You think nothing of having an ICE over 100k miles and 10 years etc. because you know from the experience of many many millions of cars before you that an engine just going bang isn't likely - it can happen but the probability is that low that you take the...

2015 S… no trunk/cargo lights (is harness there?)

Yes it's there - buy some brighter lights and plug them in, it makes a huge difference. You can also do the puddle lights in the rear doors and upgrade all the existing lights. well worth it! I have recently done it for my 2014 S 85. Check Youtube for some videos as they will tell you where/how...

Any way to see supercharger rates on nav in car with free supercharging

Not really answering your question, but I think the tiered pricing in some locations is because they are not legally allowed to sell electricity by the kWh (due to not being an electricity supplier, or not having the correct type of approved meter or something like that), so they have to...

Why no Holiday Update for pre 2021 Model S?

Do you think they've swapped supercharging (i.e. above 50kW) for the 2021 holiday update? ;)

    Pre 'next gen' seats comfort

I have a 2014 85 with the original seats. what made the difference for me was adjusting the front of the seat up until my thighs were supported right along their length (per above post), makes the seat more of a "bucket" shape too so much more supportive. Not had any real problems since...

Supercharging Speeds: Who, what, where, why, and when

you just have to download your Teslafi data in .csv (in the settings/advanced menu) and then in excel just set it up to plot kW against battery % for all your supercharging sessions. it'll take a while to do, there's a lot of data there (delete all the data from times you're not supercharging)...

Scan my Tesla results - what does it mean?

just a quick thought - have you measured how many kWh's you can put in the car (i.e. metered at the charger)? that might give you an indication of whether a full charge is actually 40kWh or 75kWh
  19. T

Scan my Tesla results - what does it mean?

I've not used SMT myself, but I believe the "SOC" number is supposed to be the same as the "charge %" in the car, so it seems very odd that it's saying 55% when you're saying the car is at 98% (and the other "SOC Min & SOC UI" are at 98%) Also very weird that "expected remaining", "ideal...

Why does the battery discharge while plugged in?

I think 2019.16 update - the one that caused batterygate, or 2019.20 - the one that caused chargegate
  21. T

Why does the battery discharge while plugged in?

Older cars engage the battery coolant pumps at anything above 78% (or 80% - something around there) so it'll drop to 78% pretty sharpish but below that won't move as much. But it looks like yours is a 2020 car so unlikely to be that. If you're bothered by it, set a scheduled charge time (e.g...

    Battery capacity

I wouldn't count on Tesla looking at anything except the battery if you asked them about the battery! do a long drive and then go look at/carefully touch the 4 brake discs - if one is much hotter than the others (should all be pretty much cold) then there's your issue. If you can be bothered...

TPMS retrofit for older Model S

Mine's P40xxx and needed it so I'd guess that yours would be the same.
  24. T

    Battery capacity

Do you have a binding brake or something like that? if it's saying 240 miles typical then I'd be really surprised if you can't get at least 200, perhaps 220, on a regular basis. To me it sounds like something is wrong and it could be something as basic as that.
  25. T

    Battery capacity

It's also relevant that EU/UK cars "rated" range is based on WLTP, which is an unrealistically high range (not anything like real life). You should have your range-o-meter set on "typical" and that will be more realistic. The 85D started with a "typical" range of 248 or so miles, so unlikely...

    Fuel saving opinions please

Also to chime in - even with free supercharging, spending an hour at a time unnecessarily at motorway services quickly gets old! It's so convenient to plug in at home and wake up to a full charge. Like others have said, this deal ended in March 2017, so all free supercharging for life cars are...

Bought a high mileage Model S!

+1 on upper control arms - mine did this as well. can be done yourself if you're mechanically inclined. from memory about £250 for the part (1 side) from Tesla but I think you can get new ones on Ebay for much less. If you want a garage to do it then try Cleevely EV in Cheltenham (if you're that...

Removing rear jump seats in model s

I'd say 25kg (50lbs). Can't say I can tell the difference in terms of wh/mile between in and out but certainly makes sense to remove if you don't need them. Makes more of a difference on storage space

Navigation Failure - is this the new eMMC?

yes, my MCU2 upgrade was done a couple of weeks ago, it replaces everything in the MCU including the Nav system/SD card etc. so yes it fixes everything. you'll also immediately get 2021.32.10 so won't be stuck on 2020.48.37 any more. It's like a different car - I remember trying to plan a...

Windshield wiper arm scraping metal under the hood

you might be lucky if still in warranty - you really have managed to wear away the bonnet there! Mine has a little wear on it but nowhere near as bad so it's not noticeable. I was outside warranty when it happened so I wasn't in any position to get a new bonnet, but you should push for that as...

Has anyone in the uk installed a tow bar on their s?

    Navigation Issues

I'm having this issue too, also on 2020.48.6 only my "connect to WiFi to download nav data" is now permanent after a week or two of being fixed by a reboot. I'm booked in anyway for mcu2 next week as screen is bubbled, only have 3g etc. So not that big a deal but quite annoying

Navigation Failure - is this the new eMMC?

So my MS 85 2014 MCU1 has recently suffered failure of the Nav system. This started with persistent "Navigation system is initializing" every time I tried to start navigation. This was fixed initially with a reboot but would reoccur every time I got in to go somewhere. Then it came up with this...

    TPMS Failure issue

it is possible you just have a dead sensor in one wheel. the batteries only last 4 years or so of normal use so that is the first and easiest possibility. I believe any tyre shop should be able to help diagnose a dead one and replace one that's a problem, the sensors are standard Baolong ones so...

Has anyone in the uk installed a tow bar on their s?

so I just asked my insurer (Direct Line) and got this: I'm not convinced they even read the question - but it appears that this is no issue for them?? I guess its just the MOT issue that needs to be crossed as well then!

Moderator comment - thread merged from "Model S rear mounted bike rack - any experience" Hi all, I have had my 2014 MS85 (body coloured roof so no roof bar option) for 3 years and have been using a suction-cup type 3-bike rack for that time. I have no problems with it apart from: 1. drag -...

Removing rear jump seats in model s

yes, easy. two big Torx (T40 or T45) bolts visible just below the seats when they are up I think (it was a while ago I took mine out). undo them and that's the lot, the whole thing lifts out. it is pretty heavy so worth doing for sure, and also gains you a load of space. the only thing is you'll...

Supercharging Speeds: Who, what, where, why, and when

I don't think I have enough data to start using temperature as another variable for comparison, I don't do huge amounts of supercharging (only long trips) though pre-pandemic I was doing quite a lot of business miles. Supercharging is always mid-long journey though so battery is always running a...

Supercharging Speeds: Who, what, where, why, and when

just for interest, this is my supercharging speed since mid-2018 when I started using TeslaFi. the bluer the dot, the longer ago it happened: You can see pretty clearly that it used to hit 120kW and stay there to about 20%, then fell away pretty gradually all the way to 85%, before dropping...

3 phase charger but Tesla only uses 2 phases

I just noticed your "nearby superchargers" suggests you're in France, not London per your profile - perhaps that is the reason for the lower voltage?
  45. T

3 phase charger but Tesla only uses 2 phases

It does depend what on-board charger you have. In the early days (2014 to??) in the UK (I think EU the same but not sure and certainly not sure about US) you could choose between a single charger or a dual charger. The single charger could do 16A x 3 Ph (11kW ish) and the dual charger could do...

Home charging, is it worth it?

@cduzz yes, UK is 230V for everything. standard plug sockets are 13A and the UMC will take 10A, that's very slow but you can get by on it if away from home overnight or something. For EV chargepoints you install a 32A charger, this gives the ~7.4kW that will give a full charge overnight. The...

Home charging, is it worth it?

You will be able to get a 7kW (32A) charger installed for something like £300-400 (rolec or podpoint), using the OLEV grant, so it isn't as expensive as you think. Alternatively if you know a sparky, or are competent yourself, fitting a RCD, a length of 6mm cable and an interlocked 32A commando...

2020.48 lack of sleep and bizarre charging issues

it was confirmed to be a software bug by my local SC - due to the cold weather the car was trying to pull too little current (because the battery was cold and unable to take charge) which then caused the charger to switch off, thinking there was no demand for power. The bug meant that the...

Considering older S, what to look for?

I have a July 2014 Model S. I've been pretty lucky with reliability but I have had a few relatively hefty bills over the 3 years I have owned it: Original TPMS system died - it happened just before the annual MOT test (I don't think you have this in the US, it's a test you have to get done...

    MS MCU upgrade or not?
