Uncomfortable Front Seat(s) / Thigh Bolster Mod

I'm 190 cm (6'3"), 80 kg (175 lbs), and the driver's seat in my HK-version (RHD) Model Y is so painful it's almost unbearable. I'm now walking around with a limp from the pain. I need to find a solution urgently or I can't keep driving this car :-(.

    Subwoofer custom installation options

I am thinking of doing a subwoofer install in my 2.5 roadster, but the options seem limited. Has anyone ever tried creating a subwoofer enclosure using the area under the door sills/side panels? The space between the carbon fiber body panels and the roadster frame/tub seems like an ideal space...

    WTB: UMC for Roadster

I'm looking for a used Universal Mobile Connector for my Tesla Roadster. Ideally it would come with a 32A 230V connector (for UK/HK standard), but if not, I can purchase an adapter from Tesla. Any offers?

iPhone 5 cable for Alpine unit in v2.5 Roadsters?

Are you guys using the single-DIN or double-DIN head unit? I have the single-DIN Alpine iDA-X305 in my Roadster, and using the Apple USB to Lightning cable definitely does NOT work. There is a note about the incompatibility issue on Alpine's website (as well as other forums). According to the...

Roadster Quiz: Amazing Low Power Consumption

The trip meter is obviously incorrect. I suspect the time and energy consumption are accurate, which suggests usage of 144Wh per minute of drive time. This is quite possible. Most likely, there is an error in the distance calculation due to charging and not resetting the odometer.

    The 12 Volt Battery

Mine failed recently. Unlocking the doors with the fob took a few extra presses (and smaller range), and following unlock, the door handles did not release the door latch until the car had booted up (around 5-10 seconds after unlock).

Why not just request new buttons from your service center? Mine were replaced during a service visit without even asking.

    Ideal range gradually dropping off

Wow... I'm not even close to these numbers. When I first got my Roadster in March, I was at 298 km ideal in standard mode. I'm now usually around 278-283 km ideal. Odometer is around 10000 km. I am in HK, which has a much higher ambient temp than most other Tesla climates, which I suspect may...

    new owner #1425

The sound when alternating between accel and regen is normal, and it is due to the motor's reversed torque causing it to rotate slightly on its (rubber?) mounts. I can hear this when driving around 30-40 km/h. The squeaks from the dash are normal and irritating. I partially solved this by...

Charging in High Temperature environments 13A vs 32A vs 70A: cost of air conditioning

Hi Mark, I suspect this might not be a bug. The charge history is on a per-day basis. It is likely that your Charge History on August 2 is an aggregate of both Aug 2 and Aug 1, if the session on Aug 1 extended past midnight. If there is a +10% variation between the reported charging usage and...

Charging in High Temperature environments 13A vs 32A vs 70A: cost of air conditioning

Hi Mark, This is very helpful... it precisely matches my observations from 13A charging at 220V. Also, your note that larger percentage charge sessions are more efficient makes sense given some of the previous charge graphs I have seen, where towards the end of the charge cycle, the current...

Sticking to the road when going over uneven pavement

My experience with the Roadster suggests that the ABS engages in an all-or-nothing fashion. If one wheel locks up, due to hard braking on an uneven surface where a single wheel becomes airborne, all wheels go into the ABS pulsation mode. I can demonstrate this by going over a sunken manhole...

Sticking to the road when going over uneven pavement

I have had a few scary experiences with the anti-lock brakes, which would be due to Tesla's interpretation of how they should work. When braking hard to avoid an unexpected obstacle, if there is any uneven portion of the road that causes one of the wheels to come off the road momentarily...

Around Hong Kong EV Rally - Sunday June 26th

Wow.. no aircon in Hong Kong right now would be unbearable, even at expressway speeds. I was just going to comment that this is the perfect weather to test the aircon diversion away from the cabin during "spirited driving." I achieved this last night in less than 5 minutes of driving. Ambient...

Water spots on the Roadster's paint

I had the same thing happen to my jet black roadster in Hong Kong. I used some bug and tar remover on the spots and was able to get most of them out. This ultra fragile paint thing is bothering me to no end, so my next task is to order a custom vinyl wrap to solve this problem and restore...

Charging in High Temperature environments 13A vs 32A vs 70A: cost of air conditioning

Confirmed this morning: 16 kWh on the charge usage screen that pops up when activating the car, 16 kWh on the charge history, and 16.1 kWh on my analog electricity meter in the carport. The 0.1 kWh is most likely from the mosquito zapper, intercom, and few exterior lights on the same circuit...

Charging in High Temperature environments 13A vs 32A vs 70A: cost of air conditioning

I have a meter which records usage in my carpark area, and since the only significant usage is charging my Roadster, it should be relatively accurate. I will take a look at the usage tomorrow to see what's going on. This morning, I discovered that (according to Charge History), I used 16 kWh...

    Legend of Lightning Green

I also have a 2.5 with single DIN head unit. Once you're no longer so short on cash, the first thing you need to do is upgrade those stock speakers. I just installed a set of Focal 100/130KRS. Your door panels are already prepped for tweeters; you just need to cut out the holes in the template...

Charging in High Temperature environments 13A vs 32A vs 70A: cost of air conditioning

Keep driving... I have already experienced the aircon override during "spirited driving." Performance Mode is now almost always RED for me, especially after any 0-100 kph "performance verifications." YMMV

Charging in High Temperature environments 13A vs 32A vs 70A: cost of air conditioning

As far as I can tell, Net Energy Used indicates the reduction in available power in the battery pack (i.e. gross energy used - regen gained = net). You can see this in action if you watch the trip computer while going down a long hill with regen (it helps to reset the trip counter so you can see...

    Hong Kong Meet-Up - Sunday 15th May 2011

Wow... That's much better efficiency than mine. My charge sessions usually last around 6-8 hours at 13A. If you're feeling like being a good test subject, I would find both 13A and 32A values to be quite useful. I wonder if Kenneth got any shots of me crossing the double white lines after I...

    Hong Kong Meet-Up - Sunday 15th May 2011

You're correct... There (AFAIK) is no screen that shows consumption in this way. The trip counter is the best source of info, since it records net usage and average consumption per km. I just compare this value (assuming I reset it before heading out after a charge) to the charging history when...

Anyone using their Roadster as a commuter car?

I use my for commuting 23 km to the office every day here in Hong Kong. Around once every two weeks I go on a 3-4 day business trip, so I drive to the airport (50 km) and leave my Roadster there waiting for me to come home. I average about 20% discharge on my daily commute (measured in Standard...

    Love that iPhone/iPod connector!

Does anyone have a solution for how to deal with the Bluetooth audio overriding the iPhone connector audio? I regularly use streaming "radio" stations on my iPhone (usually with the clock radio app, since it is the most stable), but if I attempt to attach my iPhone to the connector before the...

    Hong Kong Meet-Up - Sunday 15th May 2011

Indeed a good time, but brutally early. I'm curious to know how much energy your charge cycle consumed following the trip, Mark. On my 13A charger, I used 52 kWh to fully recharge from ~30 SOC in normal mode. I am averaging about 330 kWh/km plug to wheel using this charger. I have a question...

Key in Key Switch, Door Ajar

Absolutely makes sense, and even though I don't (yet) use the HomeLink feature, I still find this alert annoying. I am also bothered by the short 45 second time to insert my key in the ignition before the security system is reset... Does anyone know why the Tesla engineers set the timeout to...

Is it possible to remove the Roadster's foot rest?

I ordered the footrest for the RHD model after trying it on a demo car... Unfortunately, after using it for a week, I've realized that it is a bit too big for my taste. I'm 191 cm, and I could previously put my foot flat against the kick plate if I slouched down slightly in the seat. With the...
