    100% charge or 90 or 95?

Got it OK, I was confused because earlier I was lead to believe this car just made the most "financial sense".

    100% charge or 90 or 95?

You bought a $100K car because it makes "financial sense"? *sugar* if you've got a 6 car garage buy a Prius Prime for $30K and never worry about range again. I've already given you the best advice on this thread, which is find a fast moving SUV (SUV/Semi best, but any vehicle in front works), set...

    100% charge or 90 or 95?

This isn't a car issue. Move closer to the job or find a new job closer to home. I know, a hell of a lot easier said than done. But if part of the reason we're all buying Teslas is the environmental benefits, remember that the carbon footprint of a Tesla still isn't 0 (even if you have...

    100% charge or 90 or 95?

Find someone to tailgate. I get about the same efficiency in watts/mile going 80 behind an SUV as I do going 65 on the open road.

Anyone got pics of the hatchback open?

Looks reasonable but it suffers from the same thing a lot of modern small-mid SUVs have - the severely raked rear roofline limits interior space. If you start packing square things like coolers and suitcases, you'll find it eats up the space much faster than if the trunk area was more like a...

    Model 3 Actual Range

According to your own spreadsheet you're consistently at or below 280 W/Mi, which will give you the 310 mile range. I don't use the miles range indicator on the screen, I've switched that over to % because the miles varies so much. That said if you enter a destination, and go into the "Energy"...

Battery drain while parked or car in storage

DIA has EV charging on-site: Battery Charging | Denver International Airport Even if you don't leave the car in one of those spots, 30-60 min at one of the L2 stations should get you enough

X hit by 17 year old kid who just got his license, what now?

Also the idea that damage cost needs to be 80% of FMV or some other metric to total a car is bunk. I've seen cars totaled for under 50% damage cost to FMV. Also has anyone checked that the battery is fine? Gotta imagine if there's damage there cost to repair skyrockets.

Pros and Cons of Owning a Tesla

This is an easy one: Range and size. EV range isn't the issue most people perceive to it be; in fact for 90% of my driving (by mileage) and 99% of my driving (by time), it's no issue. But once a month or so, I want to pack up the kids with a bunch of stuff, and travel 300+ miles into places...

Except for being electric is it really that good

I was actually pretty negative on my M3 for the first 3 months or so. I continue to believe it's only OK in snow. I think the adaptive cruise control is far too conservative. Autopilot won't f%$king change lanes (it will, but it's like a frightened grandma). The touch screen is great...

    Temperature Gauge messed up

I'll clarify - both appear messed up. Both what I see on the app for "internal temp" and what is displayed on screen while driving run 10-15 degrees too high.
  12. P

    Temperature Gauge messed up

I'm strictly referring to temp displayed on screen

    Temperature Gauge messed up

About 2 months ago, I took my car to the airport and valet parked it (I treat myself well). This was back when it was routinely 0 degrees here. When I checked in on the car while I was away, the internal temperature said over 100 degrees. I didn't give this much thought - the valet area can...

    Model Y Cargo Space (poll)

Given that it's a taller vehicle, any idea if the frunk is materially larger than the M3? This would be a nice benefit to have.

    Any last minute guesses?

Just to review - my guesses were entirely correct: 4 doors 4 wheels electric powered

No way it's got falcon doors, right?

Bad AP/TACC performance on dirty car

Although I have been that impressed with TACC performance in general (it's far too cautious when a car in front of you turns, usually bringing me to a complete halt, while at the same time driving full speed up to a stopped car then slamming on the brakes, etc) I wonder if it's even worse when...

With brick & mortar locations closing who will be delivering Tesla vehicles?

    Thanks, color me extraordinarily skeptical.

With brick & mortar locations closing who will be delivering Tesla vehicles?

I mean they're not closing service centers, right? Right? A big part of the reason I was OK going with Tesla was the showroom/service center 5 miles from my house. I'm assuming they will layoff some sales people but the service center will stay open.

    Enhanced autopilot features now FSD-only?

How do you even buy FSD after the fact? I feel like I looked on the website awhile back and couldn't find a way to do it. Can't even log in now, looks like they're jammed.

    Tesla Charge Cable Handling Ideas?

I looked into buying one of those retractable cables like they have at Costco so the gas pump can reach either side of the car, but no luck.

    "Full-Time" AWD Winter Mode

Thinking of this thread, last night I tried to fishtail the M3 in some open parking lots, and although it's easy to make the back wheels come lose, the traction control brings it right back in line pretty dang quick. It is one of those quirks that literally every car has, where someone who...

    "Full-Time" AWD Winter Mode

It may well be due to my lack of experience driving rear biased vehicles in the snow, but I don't like that tail wiggle, especially on slick, crowded roads, and especially when I haven't really "stepped on it" - already have it in chill mode and I'm being delicate with the pedal. Sure I know...

    "Full-Time" AWD Winter Mode

Hey Stealth it's not on you to defend the M3's honor. A lot of people have noticed issues with winter handling, and although I don't certainly don't know the exact fix, I bet there is one. I shelled out an extra $4K for AWD and I thought it would be better. To be clear it's not, on an...

    "Full-Time" AWD Winter Mode

Count me in as one not impressed with the winter handling. Yes traction control has been pretty good, but as compared to my AWD Volvos (they know something about snow, eh?) it could do better. In icy conditions I don't want pucker factor, I want the car going where I point the front wheels.

Outside Cold Wx (10* F) Charging Strategy

Only chiming in to say after experimenting with preheating over the last 2 weeks, here are my results: 5 minutes is plenty to get decent heat, even from -20F. One day I preheated for 90 minutes, plugged in. Didn't lose any charge, AND regen braking was at about 50% (that's the best I've seen...

    Defeating Autopilot driver sensor

I've seen a number of articles about people sleeping/reading etc while on AP (see below). In my experience, it's tough to satisfy the car's demands that the hands be on the wheel - they can't just be resting there, there needs to be some force. Leaving aside 3rd party devices designed to...

Model 3 AutoPilot lane change "shimmy" - anyone else get this?

I have been very disappointed with auto lane change. It basically doesn't work if there's any traffic. It'll be too tentative, try to slow way down, and end up disrupting traffic all around. Today was a new low - I signaled for a lane change. There was a car behind on the right, which was...

    What are your charging habits?

Update on this: I preheated this AM for an HOUR, in 5 degree weather. Battery was at 79% when I started (full overnight charge) and 79% when I left. So preheating clearly does not effect range when the car is plugged in, even when you've got it set to only charge during off peak hours.

Maps - How do they work?

So I finally get Navigate of Autopilot as an option, but before I can enable it it says I have to connect to Wifi to download new maps (button to turn on NoA is there but greyed out). So I go through the hassle of buying a Google wifi mesh network to extend wifi out to my detached garage, which...

    What are your charging habits?

If I pre-heat the vehicle while plugged in, when vehicle has already completed charging overnight, and I've set it to only charge during off peak hours, does that use battery power or plug power? My preliminary experiments seem to indicate plug power (ie no loss in battery % even when...

    What are your charging habits?

Yeah I have a detached garage, so I was getting into an ICE cold ICE (ha! ha! I did a joke) every morning. Now, even if I only have 1-2 minutes to pre-heat, between that and heated seats I don't even bring a jacket to work.
  34. P

    What are your charging habits?

Not necessarily looking for best practices here, just curious to see what others do, especially on a regular basis (not looking for road trip habits). I charge most nights. A big day of driving for me is 25 miles, although Minnesota cold limiting efficient, increasing vampire drain and often...

    200 Wh/mile to use heater?

I don't think that's the heater, I think that's overall coldness reducing battery performance, combined with highway driving. At 70 Mph in 25 degree weather, with little braking for regen, I'll only get about 210 miles of range on a 100-10% basis.
  36. P

    200 Wh/mile to use heater?

I've only read like half the posts here but just to reiterate - you people are insane driving around a $60K car with no heat on. Just run the damn heater. I will admit to having notched it down to like 62 when I'm trying to goose range a bit, but turning it off? FOH. Also note I live in MN...

    Navigate on Autopilot - Observations?

Does this matter? I thought it was a v9 update. If it's a certain version of v9 then just tell me that.

    Navigate on Autopilot - Observations?

    9 something. Don't know exactly.

    Navigate on Autopilot - Observations?

OK so I have v9 with EAP, but don't see Navigate on Autopilot in either the navigation or AP menus, and I've checked them with the car in parked. Have the pulled this back/limited it to certain parties?

What's included in the non-Premium Package?

OK but eventually an EV needs to compete with the Camry. It may not be the M3, although I don't see why it couldn't be. Hopefully over time battery costs come down and the M3 cost comes down with it. Will make us early adopters feel a little dumb but it's not like this doesn't happen with...
  41. P

What's included in the non-Premium Package?

I hope they don't - we need to get EVs to the masses, and for that to happen it appears they need to be able to sell a 225 mile range sedan with an average level of tech/comfort for BELOW $35K, especially now that the tax credit is de minimus after 1H2019
  42. P

What's included in the non-Premium Package?

I think you're making a joke here, but at the risk of being an Internet Idiot myself, you can outfit a $31K Camry with nav, leather, and heated seats. And all Toyotas these days (even my rental Corolla a few weeks ago) have dynamic cruise control and lane departure warning - it ain't autopilot...

What's included in the non-Premium Package?

Can you configure a "non premium" X or S? A quick review of the website makes it seem as if each has a premium package, but you can't configure one without it. As somesone else noted these are $80,000+ vehicles, heated seats shouldn't be an option.
  44. P

What's included in the non-Premium Package?

Was talking about auto packages in another context, and it got me wondering - what exactly do you get in a non-premium M3? I know a few things like premium audio, glass roof, heated seats - OK sure (although a $35,000 car without heated seats - that's some junk). But look at the list per the...

    Model 3 Production Levels Down?

No, he's not. Deductions reduce your taxable income. Credits reduce your tax liability on a dollar for dollar basis. However, with a few exceptions, tax credits cannot reduce your tax liability below zero.
  46. P

    Model 3 Production Levels Down?

It's funny you would claim that, and yet put misinformation in your very post. I've already admitted up thread that I had mixed up credits with deductions, and that you don't need to itemize deductions in order to use a tax credit. However, the EV tax credit is not a refundable tax credit -...

    Phone Key - Theft

So my phone key is working pretty well. Cool! However, I was thinking: You don't need to log into my iPhone X to access the car, so if you've stolen the phone, you can steal the car. In addition, IF you're able to access the phone, the app will tell you where the car is! Now, both the phone...
