Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Never thought I would be pining for more Tesla "buying opportunities" so soon after the Great Devaluation of FH 2019. Yep, I sold most of the pile I accumulated then into this rally, at an average selling price of perhaps ~$400. It was the cautious, cool-headed, realistic thing to do ;-) Just...

Yahoo Finance finally got the news (via Bloomberg, sourcing from Electrek). As recently as 45 minutes ago, Google News was pretty clueless too. The downside of having algorithms for editors.

And to riff on this even more, a substantial Q-over-Q increase in non-U.S. M3 sales this quarter seems baked in, given the expanding markets and likely logistics improvements.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Yeah, that would make 26,600 M3s for the first two months of Q3 vs 24,000 for first two of Q2 -- an 11% Q-over-Q increase.

When Tesla's SP hits $215.50 and you go "well, that's not bad!" It's a whole new (ab)normal. May it blow over like a bad dream, soon. (Last purchase: Friday, at $213.)

They could — for example, and assuming they truthfully can — make some reassuring statement in their defence along the lines of: We’ve installed _______ [a gazillion] solar panels since ______, and Walmart’s issues are rare and exceptional. Fires have been reported at less than o.xxx% of Tesla...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Yeah, but this is a damaging enough story that on day one it's likely driving all or most of a net 4% hit to the stock (Tesla down 3%; NASDAQ up 1%). Every story I've read includes "we reached out to Tesla..." Their lack of response implies they have nothing to counter with. Sure, they're...

And now "a second pass," searching on the keywords <tesla solarcity solar panel fire> for dates prior to Aug 20. After going through the first page of 50 or so hits (many of them about the Walmart story because of links to it on old pages), only two stories relate to the Walmart issue...

I've been wondering: with so many SolarCity installations, why only Walmart? A first pass with Google yields one hint from 11 months ago of a systemic problem: SolarCity shutdown my system, apparently a widespread wiring issue : SolarCity

That's amazing. I'd forgotten how conservative their early G3 guidance was. I just searched through each of their subsequent quarterly update letters, and not once did they get "more Elon" about the timeline. In fact, they made no further comments. Pretty sure they'll rectify that in the Q2 update.

You hit the nail right on the head: "What I’d like to know is, what is the goal of journalism? Is it to understand a situation and report on it so people know what’s going on? Or is it to find a sentence out of a long speech which doesn’t fit the rest of the paragraph, and to exploit that?"...

They've been buying the dip almost down to the very bottom a week or two ago: https://ark-invest.com/wp-content/trades/ARK_Trades.pdf. That’s kind of my point. The email probably was what it appeared to be. But I’d like to think that if it hadn’t leaked, Elon/Tesla would have said as much in a public statement to try and staunch the bleeding for Tesla longs (myself very much included).

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

About the “contrived internal email leak” question: if Elon/Tesla wanted to calm these very troubled waters, why not just convey the same info in a press release or other public statement? I get that there may be reluctance to break with a quarterly guidance schedule, but this has been a...

I've been so curious to see if they're still buying, but all I've had are their seemingly weekly updates (https://ark-invest.com/wp-content/trades/ARK_Trades.pdf), which showed no buys since late April. Where/how did you get this? I'd like that inside track, too ;-)

What's unnerving me today is the "existential" flavour of this update: "... we’re up against massive, entrenched competitors. The net effect is that Tesla must work much harder than other manufacturers to survive while building affordable, sustainable products.... "Higher volume and...

I didn't know about the 30k shares sale. The funny thing is Tesla is almost uniquely covered by so many negative stories every day in outlets like Bloomberg and BI that, over the course of a year, it wouldn't surprise me if there's enough data to be analyzed to yield statistically significant...

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

I would call it coincidence unless you can establish a statistically significant pattern of news stories by Bloomberg timed to hurt Tesla. Even in this case, why didn't they "wait" for it to hit $325 or recover all the way back above $350 in anticipation of a profitable Q3 report?

TSLA Market Action: 2018 Investor Roundtable

As much as I hate true FUD, reporting the news - even when it's based on confidential, anonymous sources - is how the news works. In the extremely unlikely event that a major news org like Bloomberg would risk its business by faking news in order to rig the market, there's always recourse to an...

For me, the big one was Amiga - arguably more beloved in multimedia circles in the 80s and early 90s than Apple. I believe when Commodore went bankrupt around 1994, the Amiga had become its flagship product - not that its iconic Commodore 64 didn't still have its devout fans too.

It was an ungraciously terse reply to a fawning, well-meaning open letter. But I expect better from Bloomberg than to headline it as some sort of Twitter fight.

I may not own a Tesla, but being a shareholder allows me to experience Ludicrous Mode a few times a week. Speaking of which, what's most likely to be driving the 0-60 this morning? Morgan Stanley lending credibility to the go-private deal?

Can't believe Bloomberg is spinning Arianna H's doting, motherly advice to Musk and his, admittedly, dismissive response as something akin to a Trumpian flame war: Terms of Service Violation (I don't know why the video link is shown as "Terms of Service Violation.")

My reaction, too. I was taken aback that he would still be worrying about shorts destroying Tesla on the heels of “profitable from now on.” That said, is there anything a heavily short-biased media can’t spin into existentially threatening FUD no matter how much more Tesla achieves? On this very...

Holding shares in a private Tesla outside the US

Not sure if I'm stating the obvious, but, assuming TSLA shares in nonregistered Canadian accounts will be eligible for a private TSLA fund, it seems to me the solution to holding shares in registered accounts is simply to transfer them to a nonregistered account, whether directly or by selling...
