    Changing Tires Out Yourself

The jack points are easy to find on any Tesla. You’ll want to get a set of lift pads, though, as well as a low profile jack. This video goes over all the details of the equipment and the process: Changing Rims on a Model X

Motorcycle high fives my passenger mirror...

A fellow I know just had this happen to his Tesla Model Y. This is clearly a thing that some motorcycle riders do for fun, possibly for bragging rights. Teslas seem to be a preferred target. It happens in stop and go traffic. The motorcycle rider drives in between cars, knocks the mirror off a...

Updated to V10, no smart summon

I can confirm that enhanced summon is now in Ontario, Canada. I just noticed the enhanced summon button in my app today. That could be because I just haven't tried summon for a few days, or it could be because I just logged out and then back into my app last night. (I was hoping to see the new...

What's the best way to use a Model X as a PA system?

Okay... I just did an experiment, and I don't need an inverter. The sound system in the Model X is powerful enough that it works as a PA on its own. I took the X to a big, empty parking lot, I opened up all the doors, turned the volume all the way up, downloaded a Bluetooth microphone app onto...

What's the best way to use a Model X as a PA system?

Here's my question now... If I plug a 500w power inverter into the 12v power outlet in the X, and then plug my PA into the inverter, would that draw power just from the little 12v battery, or would it draw power from my big 75 kW battery? I'm hoping to plug some big speakers into the...

What's the best way to use a Model X as a PA system?

As you may know, a week of Global Climate Strikes will be taking place September 20th to 27th. Thousands of rallies and protests will take place, each with speakers trying to address large crowds. PA systems generally require large batteries or generators. It now occurs to me, though, that...

ToughPro floor mats for Model 3

I don't know how they compare, but after seeing how well the ToughPro mats fit in my Model X, I didn't hesitate to order ToughPro mats for my Model 3. ToughPro mats fit so perfectly that everyone thinks they are the actual surface of the floor. I love having the protection of mats without...

NEMA 14-50 Plug Meltdown / Near Fire

I hear you. You definitely don't want to hire an electrician off Kijiji. You want a reputable pro... preferably one that you've hired before. In my case, our electrician has done work for us spanning across a decade: he did our entire basement, under-cabinet lights and light switch in the...

NEMA 14-50 Plug Meltdown / Near Fire

First: Let me say I'm really glad that everyone is okay. Second: This story alone should be enough to convince anyone to spend the extra dollars to hire a qualified electrician to instal a proper EV charger. Why save hundreds of dollars on something that is attached to your house and that plugs...

    6 vs 7 seats, 2nd row movement

We were in the EXACT same situation as you just this past summer. We had seen the 6-seater Model X, and we loved it. We figured the 7-seater Model X would be even better because it had one more seat, more cargo space, and less automated technology to worry about breaking down later on. It all...

I pulled the trigger on a Model 3 today!

Goodness... 7 days... really... aaaahh ha ha ha haaa!!! (inhale... wheeze... cough) My friend, everybody and their brother wants a Model 3. We have to wait in line. It has been six weeks since I placed my order, and I still don't have a VIN assigned... and I'm not expecting one anytime soon...

    cleaning white seats

I hear you, jgrgnt, I have found that isopropyl alcohol works wonders on stains around the house, and, if I had some unusual ink or oil stain on my ultra white seats, then I'd break out the isopropyl alcohol in a heart beat. However, the issue I'm experiencing is all over the seats, and it will...

    cleaning white seats

I've seen it done on youtube, but I would never dream of using it myself. Magic erasers are essentially a form of rubbing compound (or ultra-fine sandpaper). The do seem to work wonders, but they would surely scrub off any protective coating from the seats. I suspect that once you use these, the...

    cleaning white seats

One wonders... If the alcohol that used to be recommended by Tesla actually caused some damage, then you would think we would see evidence of such damage on these discussion boards. At the end of the day, I think Tesla's ultra white seats are an iconic feature of these cars. For that reason...

    cleaning white seats

Hmmn... from what I can see, page 170 of the Model X owner's manual cautions against using any alcohol on the interior. Cautions for Interior Cleaning Caution: Using solvents (including alcohol), bleach, citrus, naphtha, or silicone-based products or additives on interior components can...

    cleaning white seats

Well... I just tried the Sonax Alcantara and Upholstery Cleaner. For about 30 minutes, I scrubbed one little spot with the leather and textile brush I got from Amazon. Sadly, It barely made any difference. Definitely not a magic bullet. The only big gun I have yet to try is isopropyl...

    Voice commands suddenly not working

Do you file a bug report using the voice command (when you are able)? That's something I used to do all the time. I would press the voice command button, and say, "Bug Report: This car rarely hears my voice commands."

News for Model X owners with the dreaded shudder

Yup, that's it exactly... that's what happens to my 2018 Model X as well. I didn't notice it right away. Only after a couple of months. I have been told that it is a "normal" characteristic of the vehicle, but that a permanent fix is in the works.

The "Federally compliant for incentive" Tesla

Based on what I've read since my last post, I would have to agree with you. I don't think Tesla is anticipating selling a single one of these low-range Model 3 vehicles. I think it is a vehicle that needs to exist on paper, soleley to make the other trim levels eligible for the incentive.

    Voice commands suddenly not working

I must say, the voice command feature has improved markedly over the past few months. I'm not sure which OTA update fixed this, but it's much better now. I also understand that Tesla is going to constantly add new functions to their repertoire of voice commands.

I tried to get some Sonax from Part Source and Canadian Tire. No luck at either. I just ordered the Sonax Alcantara and Upholstery Cleaner from Amazon. cleaning white seats

I'm in the same boat, I'm afraid. I haven't tried anything too extreme as of yet. However, neither scrubbing with soap and water, nor scrubbing with Pink Solution, has completely removed dye transfer. We seem to have dye transfer on the seats from both blue jeans and black winter coats, and...

The "Federally compliant for incentive" Tesla

In my opinion, Tesla would HAVE to offer an upgrade path. They are not making a different, less expensive version of the Model 3 SR or SR+ for Canada, so Tesla would take a huge financial hit by selling the exact same car for a greatly reduced price. The software locked range does not make the...

Largest concern about buying a model 3

So true. At this point, I can hardly believe that anyone would put anything more than $5,000 or $6,000 on a used gas car. Who would buy a new gas car? Sales of gas cars are dropping, and more jurisdictions are announcing bans on gas cars by the years 2025 or 2030. I wouldn't say a gas car is a...

Largest concern about buying a model 3

Hello Pkeet99, I understand your question, and my wife and I absolutely considered the exact same question before buying our Model X. Yet, we did not even flinch at the prospect of putting down our hard-earned cash on that beautiful automobile. Here's why... Tesla is more than a car company...

    Voice commands suddenly not working

Yes. This happens to us most of the time. The voice command just behaves as if we said nothing at all. I cannot figure out why it hears us sometimes but not others. Our car is brand new (we took delivery in late September), but this issue seems to have gotten worse over time. Moreover, I'm...

    Holiday dance broken?!?

We just took delivery of our 2018 Model X about a week ago. We tried the dance... but it didn't work! It just rolled down the windows and played the music. The vehicle arrived needing a software update, so I updated it a couple of days after we took delivery. However, I haven't tried the dance...

Our surprising (to us) decision to go with 6 seats instead of 7...

All true, Peteski. That's why we were virtually certain that, in theory, we wanted the 7-seater. However, we are planning on using the vehicle to transport at least six people on a fairly regular basis, and we are planning to do this for long trips. Thus, once we actually experienced what the...

You know what, Leo, you raise a really good point. It would be roomy in the back of the 7-seater with the seats folded down, and you would feel pretty secure in the Model X, too! Pretty cool idea. I wonder if people could catch a decent nap in the front seats. Do they fold back very far?

Our surprising (to us) decision to go with 6 seats instead of 7...

Here's our update: We were too late to simply change our configuration. (Not sure why, given that the car was still weeks away from being built.) However, Tesla allowed us to cancel our order for the 7-seater at no penalty (which was nice), and then place a new order for a 6-seater...

Our surprising (to us) decision to go with 6 seats instead of 7...

In our case, we are really going to great financial lengths to buy this car. We've never paid more than $27,000.00 for a car before. (Our current vehicles are a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe and a 2012 Honda Civic.) We just really believe in what Tesla is doing, and we want to do what we can support the...

Middle row seats in 6-seater vs. 7-seater: How far forward can they go?

Middle row seats in 6-seater vs. 7-seater: How far forward can they go?

Middle row seats in 6-seater vs. 7-seater: How far forward can they go?

Here's our update: We cancelled our order for the 7-seater (at no penalty... which was nice), and we placed a new order for a 6-seater configuration. Believe it or not, the price of the Model X went up by $4,000.00 in the two weeks since we placed our first order, but that's because it now...

Middle row seats in 6-seater vs. 7-seater: How far forward can they go?

I did that today. They said it's too late to change my configuration. They offered me this option though: Cancel your order at no penalty and place a new order for a 6-seater... at the new, $4,000.00 increased, Model X price. The decision gets tougher by the second.

Middle row seats in 6-seater vs. 7-seater: How far forward can they go?

Okay folks, here's the update: We couldn't actually see a 7-seater before we ordered: we only saw the 6-seater (which was beautiful). However, the 7-seater sounded good in theory. A couple of weeks later, a new Tesla store opened in Toronto and it actually HAD a 7-seater, so the family raced...
