    Am I charging incorrectly?

Agreed if that is what the number came out to. I would actually expect 110v to be closer to 50%. Anything 240 to be 20 or better (really roughy estimates). The number can get really bad fast if the car it active at all when it is done charging. There has been some notable software bugs that...

    Am I charging incorrectly?

Ok. While the rest of you figure out the numbers, I have a feeling I know what is going on here. I haven’t used tesla fi, so I could be wrong. But, most vehicle trackers report energy going into and out of the battery when reporting charging and driving. This is what most people care about...

    Am I charging incorrectly?

Weird. quick question. How are you charging? are you using 110V? 220/240? how much current? I ask because 110 is the least efficient.

Short Commute - Trickle Charging OK?

Just be aware that charging at 110 is the least efficient way to charge, but also the "best: way for battery life. Also the lower you set your max charge %, the more cycles you can get out of the battery. So if you can make it your whole week on an 80% charge, then your battery will last that...

Can the Tesla Wall Connector output power to a NEMA 14-50 outlet?

Here is one. but upi can probably find more if you look around.

Can the Tesla Wall Connector output power to a NEMA 14-50 outlet?

You could just buy a J1772 connector with a pre-attached cable. Then have the electrician swap the tesla connector, making the wall charger a generic J1772 charger that is compatible with all ev's. This way you can keep adding tesla wall chargers and they will share the power, time share etc.

    TPMS

the p85D is right on the threshold of the change in tpms. if there is a menu to actually see the individual wheel pressures on the instrument cluster, then they should be compatible.

Almost a disastrous 1st trip (but it isn’t over)

As a long time owner, and talking to lots of tesla people, the charge cables can sometimes be on the wrong side of a tolerance stackup and be stiff. The easiest method, on the cars that were the hardest to plug in, using UMC, HPC and Superchargers were to align the plug, and then just firmly...

Chrome delete on white model 3 - white or black door handles?

I have a white MS and have black handles and love it. BUT, I would like matching white handles just as much. BUT If the white handles were not the exact same white as the body, I think it would look tacky. At this point, then would rather have the contrast, so Black handles it is! Can I...

    Model S - Spy Shots

They are pressure relief valves. They keep from blowing your ear drums when someone closes the trunk. All cars have something like this in some shape or form. They are normally hidden under the bumper skin, so this car does not have the bumper skin on. That cylinder looks like a resiviour...

Message: Drive Button Problem Vehicle May Not Be Able to Enter Drive

This normally means that the button is not working properly or the gear selector board is going bad. Most likely the button has failed. The message is the same if the button is held down for too long since the car thinks that the button has been stuck in the down position.

    Bringing Back DC Electricity

Well, it turn out that there are several definitions. Sorry about the confusion. My work place uses high voltage in terms of workplace safety. You are right that 600V+ is techinically high voltage, but High Voltage Definition, High Voltage Buying Guide, High Voltage Reference, High Voltage...

    Bringing Back DC Electricity

For safety, the definition of high voltage for consumers is any thing greater than 50V. Saying low voltage implies 48 or lower. I just mean that to power most of anything in my house, the currents will be greater at lower voltages than standard 110. Especially considering the 100's of...

    Bringing Back DC Electricity

Yea, DC distribution in data centers makes sense. There you can run Heavy current wires etc. with in the room. But if you think about it, Long Haul for DC can be as far as the next room depending on usage. That is unless you want to run extra, heavy gauge, wires along with your "thinner" AC...

    Bringing Back DC Electricity

DC has its place and Power transmission is not one of them. As a result, if you want to put power on the grid, you need AC. There is no way around it. DC low voltage transmission is best when transmission lines are kept short. IF you have a high current (a couple of amps) low voltage line...

    Luxury Electric

I did some quick numbers using the roadster as a baseline, with a range of 140 miles. These numbers are rough estimates, but I calculate that for a 140 mile range driving at about 55mph, the energy storage system will need to be roughly 30kW. At this size, it would take about 35 min. to...

    The Torque Pedal

I prefer the term "Gas Pedal". Everyone knows what it means, and I think that it might become one of those old sticky names. Take CC for carbon copy. I hope in the future gas pedal will become just as antiquated. I can imagine my kids asking me in the future.... "Daddy, why is it called a...

    another range/efficiency discussion

The unfortunate thing is that freeway diving at constant high speeds is the least efficient thing for the roadster, due to the fact that it take so much energy to maintain high speed while there are very little regen opportunities. I do know that one of the highest ranges for freeway driving...

    Lightning/Roadster comparison

I believe that there are several reasons why tesla did not use "super caps" to store the energy from regenerative braking. one. The Pem is a highly modified version of ACP's design. Since ACP did not use super caps, Tesla also did not. For a first product, they might have decided to stay...

    Trunk latch problems

"Closing the trunk shouldn't have to become second nature. I'd bet this isn't the last we hear of this." Like any other car, especially exotic, there are little things that may be different than what qualifies as the norm. The trunk functions. There is no need to dwell on it. As for...

    another range/efficiency discussion

First of all, the car is in standard mode, so the range is not going to give you the absolute max that the batteries are able to do. Second, who says this is an absolute thing. It is based on previous driving. Like any trip computer, you can always make it look like you are not going to get...

    another range/efficiency discussion

The 73 miles is the expected range. It is calculated on the battery level of charge and the drivers previous recent driving habits. So, since the battery looks like it is nearly fully charged, the last driver was driving really hard.

    Trunk latch problems

The latch is just something to get used to. The recommended method is to just apply pressure on both sides of the lid. So, just slam it down, the put pressure on both sides. there will be an audible click when the latch engages. No click sound, then the latch is already engaged. Nothing...

    Fareed Zakaria interviews Elon

I think the VDS will allow you to limit the charge current, but will only allow you to charge at the max current that the home chaging cable can provide, thus the pilot signal. It kind of makes sence, as to keep the customer from making a mistake and damaging something.

    Fareed Zakaria interviews Elon

That cable (in the boot) can be used for 70A also. IT does not look any thinner than the Home charging station cable. When I asked about the box, it was said that it provides the pilot signal that tells the PEM that the plug connection is good (safety measure to keep high voltage away from the...

    Vestigial Tachometer

I think the tach is useful for any ICE and/or anything that shifts gears. I found that you can get better economy/performanc out of an automatic if you monitor the tach to see the difference between speed and gear shifts. For example, when I drive long distances on an automatic, I set the...

    GM Volt will retail ~$40,000

When you think about it, the new price starts to make sense. Boiled down, the Volt is a hybrid (like the prius) except with a better battery and electric drive train. So take the base price of a prius, add a bit for the extra stuff, and $40k does not sound all that unreasonable. The only...
