    Fremont Delivery Hub Thanksgiving Week

I ordered mine on Friday and it was scheduled for afternoon delivery to my house this Tuesday. Too soon to take time off - so I asked to reschedule to Fremont. I was told that all Fremont deliveries are on hold indefinitely. No reason given to the delivery team. I had to push out my home...

Daily charging/topping up the battery (even only to 80%) could be very bad

If I charge from 65% to 75% every day, then I hit 85% battery capacity at 12,000 days. That's 32 years! I should be so lucky...

The next generation Roadster: not coming any time soon...

Because he is the CEO of an unprofitable public company. He has a legal obligation to act in the best interest of his shareholders. By 2018, former and current Roadster owners will be less than 0.1% of the Tesla customer base. The overall 2-seat convertible market is no more than 1% of the...

    Roadster Torque (Is Wikipedia wrong?)

Wikipedia says that 1.5 and 2.0 roadsters only puts out 200 lb-ft of torque. They have some reasonable sources. My electronic manual, which seems to match my 1.5, says 277 lb-ft. My VDS reliably reports over 280. Can anyone verify the most reliable numbers? Was the 200 a remnant of the...

Understanding People Who Don't Drive Their Roadsters

I've had similar questions. I've noticed 3 kinds of people who do this (there may be more). 1) There are wealthy people who have many homes and end up spending less time at the house where they put the roadster than they expected. For example, people who have primary residences in NYC or San...

The next generation Roadster: not coming any time soon...

I think we will see a Model 3 coupe and convertible in 3-5 years. I would be surprised if we see another roadster in less than 10. For most car companies, a sports car is the "halo" car to get attention and brand value. Tesla gets plenty of that as is. We won't see another roadster until...

    Roadster drag coefficient

I think that is correct. 1) remember that the drag coefficient is the drag divided by the frontal area. If the frontal area is small, then the coefficient tends to be higher. 2) Many cars with a Cd less than 0.35 are bean shaped. Interesting styling tends to increase Cd. 3) Turbulence kills...

Alternatives to Tesla's hardtop storage bag?

Ditto. I have the bag, but every time I use it I wonder why. There is nothing special about it. I think you would be just fine wrapping it in an old comforter or a brand-new cloth painter's tarp with some bungee cords. You just want something to keep you from bumping or scratching it.

Tesla Roadster - new key needs what ???

The prior owner ordered the parts for rekeying before I bought it (while Roadsters were still being manufactured). He found the old key so never had anything changed, but he said it was about $700. A box that went into the car for about $450 and 2 key blanks at just over $100 each. Labor...

New in 7.1: Audio muted at every start

It's just broken. The muting is random. The XM radio station gets lost and goes back to a menu. You can't select "Now Playing." When it does mute, unmuting does not work - you need to mute again then unmute. Don't they ever test this code in a car?

Reasonable car insurance (USA) ? I'm getting crazy quotes

Anything from another state is pretty meaningless - but I am at $509 with Geico. I am a dull, middle-aged driver in California and it is not my primary car. The Model S - which is my primary car, is closer to $900. (Actually - now that I study the policy - Geico does have the Roadster as my...

Has anyone changed the color of their interior or wrapped the dash?

I changed the color of my seats and door panels in 2012 - but I had lots of support from Tesla (in the pre-Model S days). I found a couple of 2.0/2.5 seats I liked in the "whoops" inventory they had at Menlo Park (Black with Yellow Inserts) and had them order new Yellow door trip from the...

Roadster 1.5 prices if there is no 3.0 upgrade

Can you charge at work? I had a Leaf before my Tesla. If you are still making the same commute as the last time I spoke to you, it is too far to go both ways reliably. The original point is an important one though. Lithium-Ion batteries age. We can't be replacing packs with 10-year old...

    Roadster 3.0

Exactly. Given the implied interest rate that Tesla would have been willing to pay on that money at the time, that $12K was a 50-65% discounted price.

    Roadster 3.0

This is almost certainly the case - which means that the time to charge after, for example, a 100 mile trip would be the same. Time to do a full charge would be longer since you are charging a bigger battery pack. On the other hand, a standard charge on the larger pack may not be any longer...

    survey: debadge the roadster

    Ludicrous Roadster Parts Pricing

    #6 Signature Roadster for sale

20 minutes work. They are the same stickers as the yellow stickers that hybrids used to have. When they expired (end of 2012, I think), the San Jose Mercury News had a big sticker peeling party and we all pulled them off. A few detailers came to show us how. Hair dryer helped to get them to...

iPad stereo controls for single-DIN Roadster 1.5

Alpine has some great units. I used one in the S2000 I had before my Roadster. Should work fine. I did the Double-DIN conversion when I put a similar Alpine in my Roadster. Rather than using an IPad, I just bought an old ipod off of Craigslist and leave it on the floor between the seats...
