    Weak heater on a 2018 model 3

You might want to look at the little screen on your heat control display for an error. You may have a warning there, you can mention that to service when you open the appointment.

A few more questions from a new owner

That means you get free lifetime Premium Connectivity, due to the car being a 2018 model from when they gave that away for free. Since you are in Canada that is an incredible deal considering the cost of cell service here. Even the subscription fee is a steal but free is always better :)

Extreme battery loss on Model 3 (˜10% per day) since 2023.20.4.1. Contacted service and told this is normal (more info below)

I have an old 2018 RWD LR using hw 2.5, I parked for a week on software 2023.20.7 and minimal change in SOC when I got back. So that hardware seems ok.

Front windshield replacement: OEM vs OEE

    60K Maintenance

I had the brakes checked at 80K KM (About 50K miles) since I noticed the front rotors were always really rusty. Braking seemed ok mind you. Tesla sent this "The technician is recommending to replace the front pads and rotors due to the condition they are in. Your rotors are rotted and we would...

I had a relative put wd40 on the rotors because they didn't like it rusting after being in the rain  Needless to say that required a trip down to the shop.

One thing I would suggest is brake service, since they should be lubricated at regular intervals.

    Turn Signal intermittently doesn't work

Call for mobile service, explain the stalk is flakey and doesn't always register an input properly. I had mine replaced due to this, left turns only. It's a quick swap. Problem solved after that. If you can video it even better when you set up the service call. Invoice says "Replaced SCCM".

    First Long Distance Drive

The car will calculate the charging sessions to be as short as possible for you to make your trip, so will not charge to a high percentage. As you see with the final charge percentage it will assume you can charge at your final stop. Let the car tell you when/where to charge, don't try to...

    M3P Doesn't Launch

Yes Canada side. Supercharger are no problem there is a 250KW charger in Niagara Falls right off the highway about 9 miles away. There are also superchargers in the "golden horseshoe", in case you are making a trip to Toronto and need a top up, although you could easily make that trip from your...

    M3P Doesn't Launch

It turning off obstacle aware acceleration doesn't help, I am on a LR RWD so it is a slightly different scenario but on my summer tires on a cool morning (say 7-10C) and I "floor it" I often lose traction momentarily, the traction control kicks in and nerfs the power for perhaps 2 seconds before...

2023 Model 3 no longer has manual door release in rear [never had them], other changes

I believe the reaso I believe the reason a manual override doesn't exist on the back doors is child safety. Same reason the back windows can only be lowered partially.

2018 Model 3 Resistive Cabin Heater not working while driving

I can supply a data point for you, I had the PTC fail in the spring on my 2018 LR RWD. The only way I could get heat is if I set it to max heat/defrost. As soon as I set it to temperature keeping where it would need to cycle it would fail until my next drive. You might want to try MAX heat and...

    Totaled or not

I feel for you. Many years ago I was rear ended on the highway at 2am by someone who fell asleep. For the next year I was paranoid every time I saw a car approaching me from behind. What made it worse was my car was totaled because it was older. But it was in really good shape for its age...

what's the "best" model 3 to get right now - what should I do with my post write off insurance check?

Since you are in the US this is fine, connect the car to your phones hotspot and you don't lose anything. Those of us in Canada with its super high data costs for cell service makes premium connectivity a really good deal unless you hardly do any streaming at all.

    MY22 M3: Moisture In Rear Lamp(s)

I had this happen on my 2018, and a ranger came and swapped the unit. In my case it was only on the passenger side. After it was removed you can see the amount of water that accumulated.

New owner… I wish someone would've warned me

Funny you bring this up, I have never experienced a Plaid (yet, fastest I have gone is Ludicrous speed) but the family and I were at Universal last week, and we rode on Velocicoaster and The Hulk. Velocicoaster is 2.0 seconds 0-50mph, so a bit "slower" than Plaid, Hulk is even "slower" (0-40mph...

Port Door Broken, Made Appointment, Now Working

Mobile service should be able to replace this, I had my charge port replaced this way due to a similar issue, replaced under warranty. Note if you find it won't open and you want to charge you can gently "help" it open until you get it fixed. It does make a lot of noise but doesn't seem to hurt it.

You have everything you need. You need to pull the 50A 220V plug out of the mobile charger and plug in the 120V plug. These plugs are interchangeable. Then you can plug in the 120V Plug into the wall, and the tesla end into the car. All set!

If you are like me, the most important response you can have about this is that you charge overnight when there is no stress on the grid and in all honesty it is useful for someone to be using the electricity. Anxious about a few things with my new Model 3

I am doing my first serious road trip later this month, an ~1000mi / 1600km trip to Nova Scotia from the Niagara region for a week. For the nearly 4 years I have had the car (Model 3 LR RWD) I have not gone further than what I can make on a single charge. One thing I notice about Nova Scotia...

2018 Model 3 Resistive Cabin Heater not working while driving

I had a fault with the PTC recently as well (2018 LR RWD), but I am still in warranty so it was no cost. 2020 Tesla Crashes in Ohio

If anything good can be taken from this is that the car did not catch fire and the driver was not killed, even though the car was quite damaged and hit at a speedy velocity. Thus that approach of FUD couldn't be used.

The blinker seems to have 3 modes of operation, even though the manual only suggests two: Quick press to first detent gives you 3 blinks for a lane change. Long press to first detent gives you blinks until you release. Press hard to second detent gives you permanent flashing until you turn...

AM radio 🤦‍♂️ [Model 3 has no AM radio]

I had the same issue, luckily you can find most AM stations on Tune In, which is included with the car. One advantage is better quality than AM over the air, disadvantage is if you are driving where there is no cell signal it won't work (and premium connectivity or Wifi of course).

    Interior heat

As far as the temperature reading goes, if the car is sitting out in the sun it will pick up a fair bit of heat in the interior. The glass roof allows a lot of sun into the car. Which is welcome in the cold months, but not so nice in July. For example my car is reading +32C inside and +5C...

Tesla Owners Left Stranded In Cold After Smartphone App Crashes Over Weekend

Sounds like a nice FUD/sensationalist story to me, the phone key still worked, servers aren't needed. The servers are only used for remote control of the car, so you could unlock/start your car from somewhere else (presumably for another person to use it, a rare use case I would think). But...

Advice needed on waking up Model 3 [salvage car sitting for 1 year unplugged]

You are going to need to get the 12V system up so that the computers are working. The manual will show you how to get the frunk open on page 17. Then you will need to get the 12V battery under the cover charged or replaced (since sitting dead for a long time most likely has killed it). You...

Winter Weather [question about model 3 ownership in cold climates]

I have a LR RWD from 2018, and I drove it last winter on winter tires. I would suggest you get a dedicated set of winter wheels and tires. Makes the switchover much easier and also keeps the summer rims in nice shape. Although the stock tires aren't bad, stopping and general traction is...
