Canadian Model S and X Owner Thoughts...

I have a 2019 S P100D, I share a lot of your sentiments. The car is amazing but things are constantly breaking. About to replace the 2nd headlight because of fading. Had to replace a drive unit as a preventative measure, they never told me what was wrong with it, the car just said to replace it...

New UI for pre-refreshed model S? Holiday update

this is huge, because IIRC the defrost turns itself off after some time, and I need to turn it on again before letting the rear window frost up completely the annoying part is this is all to no benefit as we're just left with a bunch of unused space

New UI for pre-refreshed model S? Holiday update

Unfortunate, I toggle the heated seat setting many times during a drive. Same with defrost. I was already not a fan of having to open climate to toggle the heated steering wheel, and was hoping they put that on the bottom too. People saying to just use voice controls, consider what happens if...

I can confirm album art is back, but still no Recents support. Maybe another few years?

    Unhappy with phantom braking

2 years of no issues, and suddenly I'm having phantom braking since the last update. Just slams on brakes every few minutes on empty freeway. Good job Tesla making autopilot unusable

Plaid Acceleration doesn't hit as hard.

maybe drag strip mode is for drag strips with surface prepped, not roads? just a guess why it would slip on roads

Consumer Reportrs Drops Model S from Reliability list

it sounds like this year they stepped it up, but I wouldn't bet on it until people drive them a few years. I love the car anyway but I won't be holding onto it past the drivetrain warranty

Consumer Reportrs Drops Model S from Reliability list

old thread but while we're here.. as someone with a 2yo car and already replaced seat, headlight, motor, yeah, tesla has no place being top on a reliability list

Makes me sad to hear many reviews of the New S complain about build quality!

Amazing motor technology but even my p100d, 2 years old, has so many issues from not being able to take its own power. Rocky seats, motor replacement, acceleration shudder, rubber seals coming off, I hope plaid has fixed all these issues or it will be even worse from that extra power

    Tyres for best grip?

Pilot sport 4S are unbelievably good tires. If you want the best you can stop there. I can't get them to slip on my P100D, while even my stock Pilot Sport 3 were easy to slip, and winter tires make me hate driving

that's definitely a turret from Portal

Complete blackout - both displays at highway speed

had this a few days ago on 2021.4.11. Really unsettling to not even have a speedometer for a few minutes. I've had it happen a few times on older software too.

my S is a different car in winter vs. summer

It absolutely chews through range in winter. I plan for my range to be halved.

    Comprehensive USB Bug List

same on my 2019 S, it stopped showing up in recents a few months ago. quite frustrating

Software update 2020.48.26.x update, font size problems

I also just noticed I can no longer see when my brake lights are on in my HUD because the car is so small
  16. shellderp

Software update 2020.48.26.x update, font size problems

The smaller fonts don't even make sense to me. Most of the fonts are still as they were, and now we just have inconsistent sizes, and more empty space for no reason..

    Comprehensive USB Bug List

The last update (2020.44.10) broke USB albums showing up in the "favorites". Anyone else?

WHATS WITH THE FREAKIN LEAKIN COMPUTER SCREENS-RIDICULOUS!

Tesla definitely knows about this problem and it's ridiculous they don't cover it. Idk what else needs to be said in this thread

What's the expert's opinion on how to handle a hydroplaning Model S AWD at highway speeds?

I never had to lower my regen in winter, though of course since its cold the regen is often not usable anyway. In ludicrous all winter long, with some careful foot control :p check out this whole vid, but at the timestamp he talks about why regen shouldn't be a problem in theory, as soon as the...

I thought that was full production, they only have to make a few thousand plaids though. Realistically very few people can afford them

    3d Maxpider Mats - Costco.ca

happy with my maxpider, they are unassuming and go really high up on the left foot area compared to any other mat. handled snow last year just fine
  23. shellderp

    Winter tire recommendations

considering these, how's the steering response / handling? my X-ICE are so squishy I hate driving on them and only benefit from snow traction sometimes

    Supercharger - Perth ON

I drove the 401 route going to ottawa and the perth route back, it's way less boring except I was stuck behind a truck and 5 cars who didn't want to pass for an hour :(

PPF and Ceramic after 2+ years?

I love the satin look, can't imagine not having it on my car anymore. In only a year it's already saved me from a decent scratch on the paint and rock chips.
  27. shellderp

    Show off your aftermarket wheels.

nice those are some thicc rear wheels. do they perform any different?

    GTA PPF Recomendations

I cheaped out but I wish I had gone to AP Shield, they seem to have the highest quality work. e.g. wrapping the side mirrors as a single piece instead of having a line down the middle

Would You Buy a New Model S Today?

I always back into tight spots for this reason, the mirrors and camera make it easy. but if you can't it's quite annoying. A front camera would be great

Are 21 inch wheels THAT bad on our cars ?

if your Canadian city is anything like mine, the potholes will destroy 21" wheels
  33. shellderp

Do you have shudder on hard acceleration? AKA death rattle?

coming back to this thread after a while. since the warm weather came, I have zero shudders. Done dozens of launches. Maybe there are multiple similar issues?

We must face facts - meat is the problem

Talking down to anyone who doesn't hold your views does you no favours, nor does attacking the author's motives. If you read up on the author, his research goals are to minimize emissions assuming livestock consumption increases. Of course "big ag" should be funding this so they can reduce...

We must face facts - meat is the problem

if you bold it it must be true :) Yes, eating meat affects the environment, but cows are not killing the climate

    Show off your aftermarket wheels.

    the satin blue is stunning
  39. shellderp

I've had my Model S for a month now. When does simply looking at it get old?

dreamt of it for 5 years, had it for one year, still amazed every time I look at it
  40. shellderp

Do you have shudder on hard acceleration? AKA death rattle?

I noticed it's more common in cold weather as well. The recall worked for me but then came back a month later anyway. Not convinced there's any fix to this problem coming
  41. shellderp

Sentry Viewer should be hidden while in Valet Mode

agree with pin protecting it, and to fix the removeable usb drive concern they could encrypt the contents with the pin, same as your phone is encrypted. Biggest challenge there is how to decrypt it when plugging into another device

    Supercharger - Kitchener, ON

noticed it on my screen as well. says 250kw max
  43. shellderp

when is good time to swap to all season tire from winter tire ?

welp looks like kaltire is only doing emergency services now, might be stuck on winters all summer at this rate
  46. shellderp

when is good time to swap to all season tire from winter tire ?

I doubt they will close. You can drop your car off and never get within 5 meters of a person, not much risk of infection
  47. shellderp

P100D ludicrous+ loses to Model 3?? What the??

were you on winter tires? Best run I could get on winter tires is 3 seconds
  48. shellderp

when is good time to swap to all season tire from winter tire ?

depends, if there's a sudden snowfall day in the next few weeks can you tolerate not going out that day? given the societal shutdown right now, you probably can. But I can recall a snowfall in april here pretty much every year
  49. shellderp

Warning!!! Model 3 will make you immature (again)

really, you think this is relevant? there's a big difference between a red light race and >Hart had pulled ahead when Vasapolli crossed the double yellow line on the opposite side of the street to pull ahead. these guys were nuts

    Drivers seat a tad loose

Service center took a look at mine and ordered a new seat. Based on this thread expecting it to take a while lol. Seems to just be the back rest on mine that's moving, not the whole seat.
