Blog Tesla’s Full Self-Driving Software Deployed to ‘Careful Drivers’

It's my understanding that Early Access Program folks are specifically prohibited by non-disclosure agreeement from having things like TeslaFi installed. I don't think you're going to see 2020.44 pop up there. And when it does, it won't be 2020.44, that versions will be updated again before...

New tires needed after less than 30k miles

The Ranger who installed my HW 3 pointed out I needed new tires. Mentioned that regeneration also wears tires faster, so it's not just the weight and "spirited driving."

Speed limit signs my M3 did NOT see

I noticed it doesn't see the school school speed limit signs, the ones with the flashing lights on top and bottom. It does display the lights as traffic lights though. I've had it incorrectly pick the wrong speed twice, both times the sign had something hanging in front of it.

Reduced Range - Tesla Issued a Service Bulletin for possible fix

Here's my takeaway from all this. When you go to sell your car, a smart buyer will ask you "How much range do you have left?" The correct answer is, "Hang on, let me charge it up to 100%" How come nobody has spikes on their charts like me? Am I the only one that got those software updates?

    OEM tire warranty

When the service tech came to install my HW3 he reminded me I needed new tires (22K). He said in addition to all the usual causes (higher weight, quick starts, hard cornering), he said regenerative breaking shortens the life of the tires. Makes sense, we don't really coast anymore. I suspect...

Valid locations for Starlink Beta (44th to 52nd parallels north) on Google Earth

I wonder about my case as well. My neighbors have cable access, the cable is on the road by my house, but they want $8K to connect me (it's actually $11K, but they say they'll eat the first $3K). That's down from $14K on the previous quote, maybe they're starting to feel the pressure. It's a...

Doug Loverro, new Chief of Human Spaceflight, resigns from NASA

Well, since we're calling out people for sweeping generalizations and political correctness, let me speak on behalf of the world's supermodels, who most definitely want to be known for their level of attractiveness.

Reduced Range - Tesla Issued a Service Bulletin for possible fix

Well, I'm not last in my group, at least. Since the range of my car new was 310, I could lose that extra 15 miles of range that came with the software update and I would be back to 0% loss. 'Cept mine kept going. 3 LR RWD, 10/18 build

    Basic question about net metering..

One more thing to think about: net metering isn't forever. It's an unsustainable business model for the utilities. Sooner or later, it's going away. YMMV.

Apt Complex Dragging Feet to Install Charger

Fun fact: Voltage was standardized at 120 and 240 back in..... the 1930's. Just how old are you?

What Kind of Car Did The Model 3 Replace?

Tried to trade in my 2001 Toyota Avalon, but they only offered me $300, so I kept it for the kids. Just got my property tax bill from the state, they value it at $2400. Guess I'm more pissed off at the state.

    reports of 150kW ?

I hit 149 kW at the Charlotte Supercharger on 5/4. Didn't stay there long, looks like it started tapering at 25%. It also kicked me off halfway through charging. I had to come out from the restaurant to reset it. Must have had something to do with the Bolt EV parked in the next stall. She was...

    Raleigh, NC waiting room

Day 60 and the plate arrived by FedEx. Had to take the morning off from work to be there and sign for it (ok, I wasn't really homebound and starving). The problem was apparently in the MVPA, it didn't accurately reflect the third party financing and thus the lienholder on the title. Since...

    Raleigh, NC waiting room

They keep offering me a rental car, but I don't need it. I still have the trade in they only offered me $300 for, it runs just fine. It occurred to me, even before your post, that I should park it in the front of the Service Center with a sign in the window saying "undriveable." I have a long...

    Raleigh, NC waiting room

Day 29 on expired temporary tags, 59 days after delivery. Not a word from anybody in two weeks. Crickets. (Hey! More protein in a pound of crickets than a pound of steak!) If they'd given me another temp tag, it would expire tomorrow. Christmas food is gone (Elf tastes like chicken!). Maybe...

Does a full battery weigh more?

Mine definitely weighs more, but I only use premium electricity to charge. And I only use heavy water in my windshield washer fluid. This works best because my electricity comes from the nearby nuclear plant.

If you bought EAP/FSD but got the 30 day free trial...

My plate issue appears to be related to the MVPA. It has something to do with the lien holder being a third party (I didn't get the loan from Tesla). They're telling me the MVPA has to be rewritten and only the folks in California (again!) can do it. I guess they're busy selling MRs as fast as...

If you bought EAP/FSD but got the 30 day free trial...

When I took it to the service center, it was a Saturday. This was after opening a ticket, opening a ticket with "executive escalate," and talking to the Raleigh sales office who said they'd look into it. After about an hour, they told me it had to be taken care of by an engineer in California...

If you bought EAP/FSD but got the 30 day free trial...

Actually, I was referring to the fact that my car was purchased with EAP/FSD but not configured for it. No big deal, it was working! It was just on the 30 day free trial. When it expired, I lost EAP/FSD. It doesn't switch automatically switch over and I opened multiple tickets and even took it...

If you bought EAP/FSD but got the 30 day free trial...

Start now. If you wait for it to expire thinking they'll just switch it over, I don't think it works that way. I'm on day 12 and have three tickets open and a visit to the Service Center. Maybe Monday they tell me.

    Raleigh, NC waiting room

Day 12 on expired temporary tags. Tesla can't deliver but Santa can! Changed our Christmas list over to food, should be able to make it to the New Year without eating any more kids or pets. Wait, does that put me on the naughty list? If I could get them to reactivate my EAP/FSD, I could turn my...

    Raleigh, NC waiting room

Day 9. Raleigh confirms no new temp tag. No estimate on "real" plate. Software version 48.12 loaded this morning. Still no signs of EAP, maybe it went for help (it's an AI isn't it?). But at least I can play fart sounds in the car. in the garage. Been drinking pool water to fight the hunger pangs.

    Raleigh, NC waiting room

Day 8 without a license plate. Food supplies gone. Getting really hungry, may have to eat one of the kids. Do I risk the drive to the grocery store without a plate? Cops are circling like vultures, I can feel it. EAP disappeared with the license plate, might not be able to get to the store anyway.

    Raleigh, NC waiting room

Model 3 delivered on Nov 10, temporary tag expires on Dec 10th. Called Raleigh on Dec 6th, "I need a warm fuzzy..." "We're on it. We'll FedEx it to you, should be ready by the 10th, but worst case, we'll get you a rental" Dec 13th, still no tags, car's been parked for three days. Called...

Is there a chance that people waiting for standard range will receive better hardware for EAP & FSD?

The general consensus is that FSD hardware was removed as an option because Elon didn't want to install soon to be obsolete computers that would have to be swapped out in 6 months at Tesla's expense. FSD will come back as an option once he has enough inventory on hand. FSD won't be "free" but...

New Owner: Range, Charging, Will This Scenario Work?

As for your solar panel question, SolarEdge makes an inverter with a port for an EV charging cable. You pay more for the inverter (and still have to buy the cable) but it can make sense if you don't already have a 14-50 or HPWC set up. All the breaker, conduit and wiring work is already paid...

Are RWD really being fulfilled within 4 weeks?

Picked up my LR RWD Deep Blue Metallic, EAP, FSD today. Exactly 28 days after ordering. So yes, RWD are being fulfilled in 4 weeks. They even offered it early (my schedule conflicted) and offered to drive it to my house for delivery (40 miles).

    Charlotte, NC Waiting Room

Picked up my LR RWD today in Charlotte. Exactly 4 weeks since ordering. Called them on Wednesday to tell them next Tuesday's 1:30 pickup was going to be tough since both the wife and I would have to take the day off work. (And the daughter wanted to come). They said the earliest they would be...
