    Chargegate older Model S

I have a chargegated 85 pack. When new it peaked at 120kW (if you could find a supercharger!), now it peaks at 130kW following the post chargegate updates. Overall, a full charge does take longer however as the rate tapers off more sharply. Like others have said, I don’t find it a problem. The...

Maintenance required - Model S parking brake calipers

For early Model S with the separate parking brake rear calipers, I have a service tip. I recently took my Model S to the local SC to get the brake pads changed following the annual mandatory inspection we have in the UK. I had to get the parking brake pads changed. Unfortunately, the...

Anything to accurately predict charge times? (including ABRP, etc)

This will be off-topic (there are other threads on this from when MCU2 upgrades first came out). Initially the reversing camera worked very poorly in low light conditions following the swap. Tesla did some OTA fixes which made it better - but I don’t think it is quite as good. Dont let that put...

Anything to accurately predict charge times? (including ABRP, etc)

Your battery is a little tired I’m afraid. I get 110-SOC% in kW, so 10 kW more than you are getting, and my car’s charge time predictions are pretty good. I use EVTO rather than ABRP, and it predicts ok too. Not sure what you can do other than wait for an OTA improvement, but I am on MCU 2...

    Used 2015 Tesla Model S 85D

Congrats on your purchase! Although the power train is out of warranty, these cars with the small rear motor are relatively trouble free. On the charge speed comment, whilst it is true that after “charge-gate” it does take longer overall to supercharge, the original 120kW limit was actually...

    Used 2015 Tesla Model S 85D

I have one of these and it’s been great - and I might have it for a really long time now Tesla have said they are not doing model S in RHD. Just to be clear on the autopilot point here - whilst it is true that AP1 cars do not have an “enhanced autopilot“ option- that is because they don’t need...

Water sloshing around - After heavy rain

My 2015 S has done something like this for years. After being parked in heavy rain, there is a slosh the first time I go round a corner, but then it stops. Sounds like water sitting on the battery and then being thrown off? My car is often parked with the rear lower than the front, which I...

My Model S 85D and Tesla life at 100K miles

Good write up Bruce - and now I'm happy to report that I have joined you with my 2015 85D reaching 100,000 miles. Its been a great car; I think (luckily) having an 85D I avoided the large rear drive motor problems and the issues with the early 90 packs, while still getting metallic black paint...

    MOT Centre in Solihull

I found out where Tesla take their fleet cars from the new Birmingham service center. It is MSL Mercedes specialist centre, 182 Stratford road B11 1AG. Sure enough, several Teslas being MOT‘d when I was there. Very reassuring and no complaints.

Tesla Model S P100D excessive whine between 30 and 40 mph.

It does indeed. On an 85 D, the front motor whines a little at a certain speed range. With range mode enabled, the “torque sleeping” of the rear motor increases the load on the front motor and extends the speed range in which you can hear the front motor.

    Lug Nuts: suggestions, problems, questions

When I got “swollen lug nuts” I got a full set of gen 2 nuts from my local SC. Cost was £55 plus £18.40 for the caps. You then need a little plastic tool to pull the caps off easily. Volkswagen / Audi ones easily found on eBay do the trick for about £1

    Yet another 85kWh supercharging thread

I have a 2015 85D with similar miles. What you are seeing at higher SoC is the “chargegate” reduction in rate which was implemented some time ago. You have SoC+rate= 106 ish which is nearly normal - eg I get about 108. However, your initial charge rate is low. Post “chargegate” Tesla...

21 inch turbine wheel crack survey

Just had a 21 inch turbine crack while away on a road trip. 70k miles, second wheel to go on 2015 85D - first was 2016. Now waiting for a new wheel to arrive at the local SC (taking 2 days plus weekend). Adding pain to the £1400 bill for the wheel, is the fact that the SC is refusing to refit...

    12V Battery Replacement Options

Hi I got the standard warning from the car and I booked to get it changed and got an appointment in 4 weeks time. After 3 weeks the message disappeared, but I asked Tesla (via the app) to check the logs and they said the battery (which was 5 years old) was on the edge of throwing up another...

    12V Battery Replacement Options

Just had mine done - it’s easy (20mins) with an AWD 2015 car, and much harder with a RWD car which has the battery buried much further back according to the mobile tech who did it. It only cost around £50 to get it done at my own home while I was working, and I was ok with that (even though this...

What is 12v battery replacement cost

I got the warning four weeks ago, then two weeks ago it went away. I asked Tesla service via the app to check the logs and tell me if it really needed doing. They said it was very close to the warning level, so best do it. I got it done today by mobile tech and it cost £197 fitted. Great...

Battery day and used Tesla prices

For me the key question is; do you already have a Tesla? If not, you should get one ASAP. The real big difference is between having a slow and low tech ICE car and having a Tesla - not between different battery pack sizes on a model S. My regret is not buying a Tesla sooner.

    Good news posts...

My 2015 S85D has been great. The SC techs told me unofficially that it would be good if they saw the car every couple of years so it has been in three times for the fixed price routine services you can buy. I did one right before the warranty expired and they tidied it up doing the recalls and...

High maintenance car ever I owned

Loving that - of course half the story in this thread is what other cars you have owned. My Model S has been trouble free, but I previously owned a Maserati Quattroporte IV and a long time ago a Maserati 425, so perhaps I am easily impressed in this regard! I loved those vehicles - but I ain’t...

    2015 Repair Risks

I have a mid 2015 85D and it’s been really good. 60k miles now and all its had (plus 1 wheel and lots of tyres) is two suspension links and two rear struts (non powered) replaced under the initial four year warranty. I chose not to extend the warranty. Since then it has been in to service once...

Two Teslas crash into the same tree

An amazing story from the UK where a large tree was blown down right across a road and was then hit by two cars travelling in opposite directions. Best Accessories for Model S?
