Unhappy with the Resale value for my 2019 Model 3

It appears that base model 3s is where the most demand is at. I just sold my 2018 mid-range Model 3, black, 57k miles for $35,000 to a dealer down the street. Now I have to wait another month or so for replacement to arrive (also Model 3).

Model 3 Charging Questions. *Looking at purchasing*

Your location matters a lot. It appears you are in Texas, so you should be fine. If you live in Canada, then no. Because in low temps almost all of the available power will go to heating the battery. By low temps I mean -15 C (or 0 F) or something like that. If you get frost on your windows a...

After Killing Tesla Model Y SR, Musk Says New Normal Range Is 300 Miles

For those of us who can charge at home, long range only matters on the freeway when we take a trip. Unfortunately, that is also when the range drops dramatically. My worst result to date: 230 mile rated range got me about 100 miles due to a very strong headwind. Had to slow down to get to the...

    Whoa Holy Phantom Braking

I recently returned from 7,000 mile road trip. I have 2018 Model 3. During my trip I had several events of phantom braking. During one of those events I was nearly rear-ended by a semi. This was a particularly hard braking event and my speed dropped quite a bit before I could jump onto the...

    Mid Range charging speed.

On my recent very long road trip I was able to get 180-185 kw on v3. And was getting a very consistent 150 kw on upgraded v2 superchargers. 180 would only last a couple of minutes, but 150 would hold until about 42% SOC. So in practical terms not much difference in wait times, maybe 1-2 minutes...

Model 3 Owners: Who Here Has Trickle-Charging Only/No Home Charging?

Yes, you should get more than 3 miles per hour. I also have two 2018 LEAFs, and I find Model 3 to be somewhat more efficient. The app will tell you how many miles you are adding per hour, obviously that will be an estimate. I would suggest you don't worry about it all too much for now. Just...

Model 3 Owners: Who Here Has Trickle-Charging Only/No Home Charging?

I see that you live in sunny California. You should be fine, as long as it does not get too cold. The only time charging on 120 V sucks is when temps drop below freezing. This past weekend I stayed at the hotel with outside night time temps around 25F. I used 20 amp outlet (charging at 16 amps...

What Kind of Car Did The Model 3 Replace?

2018 Nissan Leaf. And, in turn, LEAF replaced E350 Mercedes wagon. Prior to that I had several E-class wagons and sedans.

Model 3 LR does not charge on standard outlet

You can use existing wiring to upgrade to 240 V 15 amp (or perhaps even 20 amp). If even that is not an option, check and see if it is a 20 amp outlet. A 20 amp outlet will have a vertical and a horizontal slot, while a 15 amp plug only has two vertical slots. If it is a 20 amp outlet then you...

18 hour grid outage here, some new observations on system behavior

This storm watch behavior may become an issue down the road: power comes back on, everyone starts charging their batteries back to full, grid fails because it gets overloaded.

    CCS Adapter for North America

I hope CCS adapter comes out soon... One of the main reasons why I like Tesla is because it allows me to charge it just about anywhere from just about anything. I also own two LEAFs, and the difference in charging options between the two is significant. One basic example is 5-20 adapter that no...

    6-20 Charging

My charger is connected to 20 A 240 V line (all I could get without having to re-wire), and it seems I get around 15 miles per hour of charge. More than adequate for overnight charging.

Living with 120V - 8000 miles and counting

It appears that OP lives in North Carolina. 120 V charger should work fine for him/her in the winter. Now, if you live in Canada then winter charging would probably be very slow and there would be days when most of the energy would go towards heating the battery.

Emergency Charging Solutions to Solve Range Anxiety

I did a 3k miles road trip a little while ago, and I found that having a CHAdeMO adapter was very useful. I only used it one time, and not because I had to, but it did allow me to be more aggressive in arriving at superchargers with less than 10% charge left as long as there was a CHAdeMO...

Springfield uphill to Grants Pass OR in a SR+ cutting it too close?

You should be fine. Just make sure that you charge up all the way, and pre-heat while you charge. Start out at a conservative speed (like 65 mph), and see where you are after the first hour of driving -- by then you should be feeling comfortable to drive as fast as you normally would.

    Vacation Charging.

I think that we all agree that the best state of charge for storage is 50%. However, I believe that the marginal benefit is not worth even thinking about unless you are going to park it for months. When I go out of town I leave it plugged in and don't change my daily charge setting of 90%. By...

Likelihood of model 3 supporting ccs

Any updates on CCS adapters? I purchased CHAdeMO adapter and used it a couple of times, it has proven useful. Having CCS adapter would improve my options, there are now some quick chargers that only have CCS and not CHAdeMO.

Install 50amp breaker in 100 amp subpanel with 60amp breaker in main

I can almost guarantee that the answer is no. But you may be able to do a 20A 240V outlet, and that should be a nice upgrade from where you are. Just order a matching plug from Tesla, they are like $35.

    Workplace 110V Charging Issue 9/12A

Just remember, when winter comes it may take 6 out of that 9 amps to keep the battery warm. So you may have to find another way to supplement your charging, such as supercharger or destination charger. You may also want to look into getting CHAdeMO adapter if you have CHAdeMO stations in the area.

    CHAdeMO Charging the Model 3

Yes, that's the CHAdeMO station I am planning on using. Have a meal at Black Bear while I charge and continue on. Sure, there is a supercharger in St. George, but it is so inconvenient. And it usually takes me an hour to eat, so that's about 50 kWh, plenty to make it to Vegas.

    CHAdeMO Charging the Model 3

I just got back from 3,000 trip yesterday. Used my CHAdeMO adapter twice. Not sure why some people are so negative about it, it's a great additional option to have. Both times I used it because CHAdeMO chargers were near food and Superchargers were not. So I did not HAVE to use it, but it was...

Mid-range changes in range or battery degradation

Just to clarify something here, 5% degradation after first year and 15k miles is pretty good overall. That should put your car at about 70% @ 10 years and 150k miles (degradation is usually not a straight line). For an electric car, that's as expected.

While I don't want to downplay your right to be frustrated with price changes, just make sure you don't buy any traditional luxury car next time -- there is ALWAYS going to be someone who paid $10,000 less for his car. In the same configuration. Same color. Purchased on the same day.

US Sales of Model 3 vs Nissan LEAF is now 18.4 to 1

I just purchased new 2018 LEAF. It was on a dealer lot for nearly a year, and my total net cost after accounting for taxes and fees, and adding back 7.5k tax rebate was around 17.5k. I have two kids that are now of driving age, so we needed a 4th car. Hard to beat net 17.5k for a new car of any...

I would suggest you try and see if 6-15 works for you before doing any upgrades. Will My New Model 3 Be Worth The Same As A Honda Civic In 6 Years?

Let's just pretend it's 2025 out there, and you are shopping for a used car for your 16 year old child. Your budget is 10k. Do you buy a 2019 C250 Mercedes or 2019 Tesla Model 3? For me, just a thought of spending $500 on brake job on C250 would seal the deal.

Did not receive the 5000 Supercharger miles from a referral

Tesla has certainly made a lot of people mad with supercharging credits over the past couple of years. When I got mine it took a couple of months to get "6 months free" promotion to go through. I am still upset by the amount of work I had to do to push it through. It appears they are set on this...

Temporary charging solutions before a wall charger install

I would opt for whatever is easiest to configure. Sounds like L14-30R is your best option. But instead of using an adapter, can you convert the plug into 14-30 to avoid using an additional adapter? Extra 20% cost of electricity should not add up to all that much. Also, consider where you will...

How long does it take to charge from 5%-100% at urban SC?

Yes, idle fee only applies if supercharger is 50%+ full. By the time you are done charging it will be close to the end of your meeting anyway. I would not worry too much. Even if you get hit with 50c per minute charge for a few minutes it's not that big of a deal.

Are the Tesla Service Centers bad enough to cancel my Model 3 order?

Based on talking with several Tesla owners in the area, service has been improving as they are not slammed any more. I had a ranger come out today to do a seat belt sensor replacement, painless experience. When I owned a Mercedes they did not send any rangers to my house, but they did try to...

CCS for Model 3 in North America

I've been spoiled by 120 kw rates as a Tesla owner, but in my previous life I was a Nissan Leaf owner, and 50 kw charge rate was sufficient. If you are having a nice dinner while you charge 50kw will easily top off your battery. Even a fast food meal can take you from 20% to 60% or something...

So just to clarify, do you have a 120V outlet in your garage? Is it on a separate breaker that allows you to make sure nothing else draws a lot of power from the same breaker (like power tools, etc)? If so, just use 120V and see how that works for you before you spend any money.

NEMA 14-50 UMC Adapter No Longer Included With New Purchases

Extension cord for charging at 110V?

If you want to charge on a 20 amp outlet, you will probably have to order your extension cord online. At least I know my HD does not have it. AP take rate was less than 67%

I think it is more complicated than that. They do want to spread the word about AP, so if more cars have it then more people will experience it, and so on. Also, I do think they want to make cars safer and their data shows that AP adds safety.

Fresno to Vegas with Standard Range Plus Model 3

Just remember, you will need to make a decision in Bakersfield. Tandem breaker is a great option. Also, if the breaker AND wiring is rated for 20 A (you will need 12 AWG wire), just swap the outlet for a new GFI 20 A outlet. It has been documented here that new, high-quality GFI outlet usually solves the issue of GFI tripping. You will probably increase...
