Yes. I have found that by spinning the view, the car behind you typically comes in to view. Of course it will go away once the view resets (unless they are really close), but this shows that the visualization does identify the presence of a car behind you.

Yes, it seems to be very reliable in regards to auto-locking with an audible light honk when I walk away. Unlocking however still fails every once in a while when I activate the door handle. Cycling power on my iPhone X will usually resolve the unlocking issue for a while at least.
