    Gorgeous Tesla Pictures- users' album

We never had any issue with temperature either way. It was snowing in New Mexico and in the 90s in Arizona/Southern California, but we just left the HVAC on 70 & Auto and it was fine.

Half way through my cross-country trip for Thanksgiving: It's not blue it's dark silver metallic, but it picked up the blue from the sky.

    Early Access Program Invite

Yes. A friend of mine. No, really - not me. A friend of mine said he was in the program but then when we started chatting about firmware versions he realized that I was getting them before he was. I think it has to do with driving different places on AP. I put 6000 miles 100% in AP in two...

    Model 3 Software Update 2018.48.x

I just got 48.12.1! BUT, sadly I'm at the in-laws house for XMAS and testing the vampire drain with my car unplugged back in CA for two weeks. BTW, the new firmware load didn't seem to make the "idle" event use any range more than normal.

    Vampire Drain/Loss Tracking

I should have googled it... There's a great discussion here: The 6 kWh electricity to refine gasoline would drive an electric car the same distance as a gasser?

    Vampire Drain/Loss Tracking

I had heard this too. I actually read (but have forgotten where) that it takes 7 kWh of electricity and something like 100 gallons of water to refine 1 gallon of gasoline from crude. This doesn't consider that cost getting the crude to the refinery of course. Do you have a reference? I'm in...

    Vampire Drain/Loss Tracking

I'll be out of town for two weeks and I'll leave it unplugged and try not to wake it up with the app, so we can get even more sleeping/idle power consumption.

I really should have taken pictures of the graphs... As I remember it, they were about 10% more higher than the actual usage was. For instance, on the trip chart it would show we would arrive with 23% battery and after 200 miles at 84 mph, we got there with 13%. To compensate, I just charged a...

Disappointing Range in P3D. Is this normal?

On my almost 6,000 mile 2-week road trip I averaged 277 Wh/mile. The weather was mild (we took the southern route) but the speed limits were high (80 in Texas). I don't think that's bad at all. In my LEAF (commuting to work and back) I would get around this in the winter and almost 250 Wh/mi in...

    Vampire Drain/Loss Tracking

I was out of town the last 3 days and my car was parked in my NorCal garage. I'm at 2018.42.4. Here's the data I took: I also split out the idle and sleep times and plotted them vs the duration of the event. The linear trend lines don't fit the data at all, I just wanted to see what the Excel...

Thanks, but I was wondering what the difference was on the Dyno curves (if any) between a M3P- and a M3P+.

GoFundMe to Dyno the AWD (non-Performance)

Wow! Thank you for doing this? What kind of P3D was it, a + or a -? Do we know what the differences are between the P3D- and the P3D+? If so, please point me there. I haven't found them.

What’s up Elon’s sleeve for AWD and PAWD buyers

This is EXACTLY why I didn't go for the bigger rims and brakes. I wanted a "sleeper". Plus, the ride on the 20" rims must be pretty harsh. Not something I want to deal with for long-distance drives...

If you are a reasonable distance to a Supercharger, you don't need to bring anything. If you plan on using the dryer outlet of the house you are visiting, then check out what kind it is. The new standard for the outlet is 14-30 which means that it is rated at 30 Amps (you can draw 80% of that...

    Upcoming Cross-Country Trip

Thank you all for your great ideas! We made it back home yesterday afternoon. 5987.75 miles driven (64% of the total miles on the car). 5 days driving East, 6 days at the farm in East Georgia, and 6 days driving West (stopping several times to visit friends and family). Total energy used...

    Vampire Drain/Loss Tracking

Interesting. I had been warned that TeslaFi could increase the vampire loss, so I was careful in setting it up to leave the car alone when it was detected as sleeping. I had several long cold overnights on the first half of my trip (but nothing like leaving it at the airport for days). The...

    Why am I getting 330+ Wh/mi?

Air resistance increases with the square of speed. Rolling resistance increases linearly with speed, so overall consumption increases with the cube of the speed. Doubling speed from 30 to 60 increases consumption x8. Absolutely. The smallest gas tank of any vehicle I owned was 10 gallons...

    Vampire Drain/Loss Tracking

Have you tried TeslaFi? It allows you to track sleep and idle events, in addition to charges and drives. Below is the data from my car this morning, with drives turned off. Read it from the bottom up. The top sleep doesn't have range loss numbers because it's still sleeping. I got a trial...

My last two cars have not had spare tires, so I always carry a plug kit and 12V compressor. That's a great idea. I use TripIt for my business trips and have set up the whole trip there. I'll add notes on restaurants in the area. We already have our hotel reservations.

    Upcoming Cross-Country Trip

I'll be at the farm for a week (the closest supercharger is in Macon >100 miles away). I'll be either using the 14-30 or the 10-30 plugged into the dryer outlet, with the extension cord run out through a window.

My wife wouldn't like the camping mode, but I did lie down in the back and it wasn't bad at all... Maybe when I do a solo trip. That's a great point. I definitely do want to promote EVs (and especially the Tesla experience).

Here are the extra adapters I'm bringing. The extension cord is a L6-30 (10 AWG) and I had EVSE adapters modify a 14-30 Tesla adapter to L6-30 (Tesla Model S / X / 3 Gen 2 Charging Adapters). Since the neutral isn't used, you can remove the pin from the 14-50 connector and it will plug into both...

    Upcoming Cross-Country Trip

Thank you. I'm "expecting" ~300 miles total range, so 208 miles shouldn't be trouble. There are several places where the map on the website says to charge for 5 minutes. Not sure why. I'll play it by ear when I get there. I figure it will take longer than 5 minutes to go inside and pee...
