Why don't we have (more) curbside charging for EVs?

In Europe chargepoints do not have cables, only sockets, and you have to bring your own cable. That does prevent them from being cut off and stolen, but the disadvantage is that you don't know what length you need, so you purchase a long one. Unfortunately nobody added a hook to the charger, so...

Blog Tesla Software Update Improves Speed Limit Sign Detection

He he he, I know your pain. I knew prior to buying that I'm estimating the chance of it becoming a success was minimal (so I bought it "one sale"). And they are living up to my expectation. But as a software developer I'm very interested in experiencing the development process. For me, in the...

Will Tesla be able to deliver FSD with HW3.0 and current Model 3 sensor suite, ever?

Recently there was a talk about the FSD software, and it turns out that even though object recognition is done using AI, a lot of other things (most notably driving decisions) are done using standard software. They call that 1.0 software and AI is version 2.0. This to me at least partially...

UV Worked great on my badly yellowed screen

I went to a lawyer to check my assumption that tesla's position is bs, and he laughed and agreed. So it is covered, at least here in the Netherlands, but we are more conservative than the US. The fix really works, the only question is if it will last, because it only treats the symptom, not...

    Winter is coming

There is no app. You register via the TeslaTasks website and then use Google calendar.

    Winter is coming

You do know such a remark has a high risk of capital punishment? :D Oh no, ahm, of making people jealous? But you can also turn on the HVAC.

    Winter is coming

And I like controlling the tasks from google calendar, it is there where my other appointments live, so I can see everything in relation. But if it is not for you, it is not for you. Oh, and from what I gather... Android users can use it too, because, well, there is no app.

    Winter is coming

Ok, even though game of thrones has stopped, it appears that winter is still coming this year. Last winter I wrote a simple application dubbed TeslaTasks that makes it possible to schedule heating (and charging) your Tesla from a Google calendar. Back then I needed testers, because the Tesla API...

    Does smart preconditioning work?

That is exactly what I wrote TeslaTasks for. Some things can't be AI-ed, but need a clear instruction when to do something.

Schedule Cabin to Preheat in the morning?

I wrote TeslaTasks exactly for this situation. 10 minutes really is not enough if your car is truly frozen shut.

Testers wanted: connecting your AC to a google calendar

I wanted to try, but given all the problems creating an android and ios app has, I've moved the registration logic to the web. The system itself works pretty reliable. Often, when the app takes long to connect, prefer to create an appointment in Google calendar instead. And let TeslaTasks do...

Tesla Referral Program To End As Base Model 3 Comes Online

I can understand that they will reduce the costs of the program, but being able to earn perks is what motivates people. So bad idea.

Testers wanted: connecting your AC to a google calendar

You only need the app to connect your car to a google calendar once, after that the active monitoring is done on Azure (Microsoft's cloud), so you could use the desktop version of the app to set that up. See Downloads – TeslaTasks

I've added the option to specify "charge" and optionally a percentage "charge 90%" in the appointment summary, to start charging. Until full or until the appointment ends.

Testers wanted: connecting your AC to a google calendar

Just tried it myself again from my Android phone; no problems. Are you copying the correct URL from Google Calendar? The register account function tests the URL you provide before storing it and that is throwing the error. I've added some additional debugging to the function, if you try again I...

Yes, or better I'm sending an "auto_conditioning_start". According to Tesla: Preconditioning will also turn on your seat heaters and defrosters automatically in cold weather for your comfort and convenience. Cold weather upgrades, such as the heated steering wheel and wiper blades, will also be...

The paste functionality should be working now. A long-press popup menu was not very stable (cross platform code, this also needs to run on iOS, but going to revisit that), so I've added a paste icon after the textfield for the relevant fields for now.

Testers wanted: connecting your AC to a google calendar

What amazes me is that the core algorithm, the sync between Google Calendar and Tesla, was written in 2 hours. All the work since, I'm at it in my spare time for over a month now, is scaffolding. Ranging from an app for entering the data to a privacy statement on the website.

Testers wanted: connecting your AC to a google calendar

I'm only stating what my experience is so far, but I already started looking into refreshing the token. But of course thank you for pointing it out :-) 45 days is a rather long expiration time for a token. Usually it is minutes.

Testers wanted: connecting your AC to a google calendar

I know, it was a weird requirement, but I simply confirmed. Downgraded to 24 today, but the context menu is not working as I want. Cross platform coding has its own set of issues.

Testers wanted: connecting your AC to a google calendar

@SeBsZ well, I've been running and using my own service for over a month now. It takes a lot of time moving from a private solution to a generic one, and all the time I have been using just the one token without any problems. Most of the time there is no appointment, so it won't contact tesla...

I've rewritten the application to use a token instead of a password. It means TeslaTasks can still access your car, but not override pins and such.

Testers wanted: connecting your AC to a google calendar

Yes, the fiber was fixed pretty quickly, except for TV. Weird. Anyhow, I've got the backend on token now, curious if that will keep working. Tokens usually have a limited time span, so I'm wondering if it only works if it is kept alive by logging in every so often. I'm not doing that, I only...

Testers wanted: connecting your AC to a google calendar

That last sentense is weird, let me try that again: I chose a cloud (Azure) for hosting to not be dependant on my fragile home infrastructure. The gardener just cut the glass fiber for example, stuff happens.
  37. tbee

Testers wanted: connecting your AC to a google calendar

Hmmm. A token would still give full access to the API, and the ability to unlock the doors, but it would not allow overriding the pin. It would be great if Tesla would allow users to grant permissions to a token.
  38. tbee

Testers wanted: connecting your AC to a google calendar

Yes. I understood that that is an option. I thought the OAuth2 token had a limited lifetime, so I needed to obtain a new one every time. But apparently not, so I'll add that to the code (once the glass fiber is repaired my gardener dug through :-/ ). This is exactly why I put it out there.

The trust issue is a dilemma indeed, that is why I'm upfront and open about it. In the end you also provide your credentials to apps like TeslaFi or VisibleTesla. There is a reason why I called this 'TeslaTasks', so charging certain can be the next step, but first I need to get a good feeling on that my implementation is stable enough.
