    New battery pack (2017+) longevity

In the list of the highest mileage Model Ss, one thing stands out. Practically all of them have had multiple battery pack replacements (and drive units), typically under warranty. They are also usually first gen cars (2012-15). I’ve heard that battery packs made from 2017 and up have much better...

    Extended Warranty claims

I can’t speak about Xcare but I know most third party warranty providers, such as Car Shield, are terrible. My mechanic said he’s never seen a major claim actually get paid. They always have an out. They will claim the issue was because of abuse, a manufacturer defect or normal wear/tear etc and...

Any way to stop the schedule update box from popping up on the screen?

Thanks for the responses. I’m a complete moron for not realizing it goes away when you put the car in drive or reverse. I was always manually hitting the X as soon as I started the car. I don’t drive the car often, it’s mostly my wife’s car, but I should’ve tried that.

Any way to stop the schedule update box from popping up on the screen?

FSD has been overly sensitive to me. If I glance down for a split second to change the radio station or climate control, it starts freaking out. Because of this I rarely use it and use EAP 99% of the time. If EAP is going to be nagged the same as FSD I do not want the update.

Any way to stop the schedule update box from popping up on the screen?

A lot of reports are saying it is overly sensitive. Also, I don’t like the fact that I can get a “time out” because the AI thinks I’m not using AP properly.

Any way to stop the schedule update box from popping up on the screen?

I am declining the new “recall” that cripples AP. Every time you start the car a box pops up on the screen requesting you schedule the software update. Is there any way to stop this box from popping up?

What is your favorite all-round vehicle you've owned?

100% agree. I can’t understand why so many people are afraid of putting miles on them in order to save them for the next guy. Some people are so ridiculous they trailer them to car meets. I bought the car to drive, not to look at it setting in my garage. Plus, when they’re driven they’re a lot...

What is your favorite all-round vehicle you've owned?

I’m kind of a weird guy but my current daily driver, and it has been for nearly two years, is a Ferrari Testarossa. The Model 3 is mostly my wife’s car now. I haven’t driven it in months. I drive the TR everywhere, to the supermarket, 2am Waffle House runs, picking up my kid from school, down to...

    Buying a 2017-19 used P100D?

Thanks for the response. I am leaning towards it. It may sound strange but I actually prefer the older Model S interior compared to the newer ones.

    Buying a 2017-19 used P100D?

Since my Model 3 is pretty much my wife’s car now, I am looking at buying a second Tesla to use as my daily driver. I’ve noticed the older 2017-2019 P100Ds are actually a pretty good value right now. I really don’t want to buy a new S because of the significant decline in value over a short...

Anybody come from a sports car to Tesla?

Me. Well I actually never got out of sports cars, I just added a Model 3. Very different driving experiences but I love them both. One thing to be aware of, an out of warranty Tesla can be every bit as expensive to repair as a Ferrari or Lamborghini.

Drifting a Model 3 Mid Range?

Thanks for the replies everyone. I’m gonna see if they will sell me one of those partybox units.

Drifting a Model 3 Mid Range?

Is there any real way to drift in a Model 3? Specifically a 2018 Mid Range RWD model. I’ve turned off slip start but I can’t see that it does anything at all, even when wet. From my understanding dyno mode or disabling one of the ABS sensors will cause it to go into limp mode.

Anybody care to estimate cost to replace battery out of warranty?

Actually mine is a bit more than 10%. It went from 264 to 228. I’ve taken very good care of the battery. It’s been superchargered only 3 times, charged to 100% only once, allowed below 20% once and is always plugged in (charge set to 80%). Tesla service will only tell me the battery is within...

Anybody care to estimate cost to replace battery out of warranty?

I wouldn’t say they have a proven track record with battery longevity. Every single famous high mileage Model S or X has had battery pack replacements, usually multiple ones. My 2018 3 has already lost 10% capacity after less than 10k miles. I think there is a reason Tesla abandoned the 8...

    Spotify problems?

Lately I’ve noticed Spotify is only displaying roughly half the song selections in my opened playlists. I’m finding I need to use to phone to make selections more often now. Also, requesting a song via voice is not working again. It was working fine before, but now nothing. Anyone else having...

Installed a Tesla charger in my condo garage. Other owners are forcing me to remove it. Thoughts?

Sounds like you got a bunch of a-hole neighbors. If I were you I’d consider putting the Condo up for sale and moving to greener pastures. There is one of the many reasons I’ll never buy any home with an HOA.

Long Term Depreciation of the Plaid S

Maybe this would be a good upgrade for the Testarossa if the engine ever blows up.

Long Term Depreciation of the Plaid S

Yes, I’m also about a decade late. They bottomed out in value around 10 years ago and you could get a near perfect one south of $50k. Unfortunately, at the time I was not in a financial position to obtain one. I’m not buying one solely as an investment. I had a poster of this car on my wall...

Relocating to UK...what to do with my Tesla?

If your move is temporary, most countries will allow you to bring the vehicle in for up to a year without officially importing it. You would just keep your US plates. I don’t know what the UK’s policy is on this but it’s something to look into. If it’s going to be a permanent move this obviously...

Long Term Depreciation of the Plaid S

That’s actually one of the main reasons I was curious as the original Roadster is rising in value. Right now I’m in the process of buying a 89 Ferrari Testarossa (was my childhood dream car) and the prices now are, in many cases, more expensive than when it was new and it’s only going up. Some...

Long Term Depreciation of the Plaid S

Do you think the plaid Model S will follow the same route as a lot of exotic cars/super cars and rapidly depreciate, bottom out and then actually start appreciating? Or do you think it will mostly just be considered outdated tech in 10 years?

    New battery tech release timeline?

Its a Dec 18 model with around 8800 miles on it. I’ve not ran it down to below 10% yet but I did run it to around 17% last week and then charged to 90%. No change. I have opened a service request with Tesla, I’ll see what they say.

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

Anyone else seen a massive range drop in the last couple months? I’m wondering if it’s maybe software related or maybe my battery is on its way out. 2018 mid range, less than 9k miles, down to 225 miles at 100% and dropping fast. Charges to 80% daily, superchargered 6 times in the car’s life.

    New battery tech release timeline?

My mid-range is losing range like crazy. It went from 264 down to 242 last year and in the last couple months it started on a sharp decline. It’s down around 224 now. I am wondering if I’m going to need a replacement under warranty soon. Is there an estimated timeline for the upgraded battery...

What percentage of Model 3s are "lemons"

It’s unlikely you’ll get concrete statistics but I’d guess it’s a small percentage. It’s rare for people to praise a good build quality online but it’s absolutely common for people to post about a negative experience. My Dec 18 build is near flawless, no panel gaps or anything. My advice would...

    Advice on shipping M3 overseas

Texas refuses to renew registration of Tesla M3 without emissions test

Texas has emissions tests? That’s one thing I like about living in AL and FL, no emissions test, or any other inspections, whatsoever. In China I have to do an emissions/safety inspection annually and it’s a huge pain, takes all day and usually requires a bribe, although I imagine it’s probably...

    Customer Service Rant - (Sorry...)

The problem is they are trying to force him to pay for a warranty issue. You can’t just make up stuff like “it’s within Tesla specs” to weasel out of honoring the warranty. So I’d pay the amount, get it fixed, demand a refund (warranty work) and when refused, then file a chargeback. As an...

About how much would a new paint job cost?

I’m trying to decide whether it is worth it or not to wrap my car with ppf. The cheapest quote I’ve got for a full ppf wrap is $4900, with most being $5500-6500. The the estimated lifespan of ppf appears to be about 10 years. Considering this, I am wondering if a ppf wrap might actually be more...

Traded in my Model 3 Performance

Traded in my Model 3 Performance

I briefly considered trading my 3 for a Ford Raptor, but that thought was very brief and I’m glad I didn’t act on it. I did, however, buy a Chevy z71 4x4 pickup as a second vehicle. I just wanted something to drive around in the old abandoned strip mines while carrying my boat/fishing gear. Wish...

Why is Audi E-Tron selling so well in Norway?

There are a lot of reasons to believe Tesla’s range claims are not accurate in real world driving. In practically every independent test, with few exceptions, Tesla’s get significantly less than rated range. Other EVs tend to be closer to their rated range. I would guess the Audi probably gets...

Thoughts on buying Used M3 LR RWD vs. New SR+?

there’s a lot of confusion here as to if the guessometer can drift. Two Tesla techs said the stated range is not effected by driving habits/charging habits but by the actual capacity of the battery. In some cases the BMS can be off and recalibrating it can help but most of the people complaining...

Thoughts on buying Used M3 LR RWD vs. New SR+?

I get the impression that the Sr+ has serious battery issues and Tesla refuses to do anything about it so I’d avoid it like the plague. There are countless threads of people complaining about only charging to 210-220 miles after only a few thousand miles. Tesla simply tells them everything is...

    Color change wrap questions

I wrapped my Tesla using a 3M 2080 series but I won’t do it again. The reason is it’s too fragile, every little thing seems to damage it. A couple months ago my son rubbed muddy water on it with his hands—not abrasive sand, just dirty water, and the area is still visible. Also. A couple weeks...

Does tire size affect the displayed range?

the reason I was wondering is my car (MR) went from 264 down to 244 within a very short time after the big smart summons update. I have the 19” wheels so I was wondering if that was the reason. 244 seems to be pretty accurate based on all my trips.
