    FSD - Level 2

It does not really matter what we assume. As the matter of fact, Honda got certified for Level 3 (and Waymo already has limited clearance for fully autonomous driving for two years or so, in commercial application though), while Tesla recently admitted that Level 3 certification is not in close...

    2012 P85 what to do

So, it went one-way to Carvana for 27K (could be 29K in trade-in scenario). Just to remind, Tesla offered 21K for trade-in, no one-way buyout ever possible. I think the picture is pretty clear here. At the end of the day, the car was in good shape - ~230 mi full charge, cell disbalance 0.015 V...

Wiki Consolidated eMMC Thread (MCU repair) (Black Center Screen)

2012 P85 - MCU died completely, no preceding symptoms except eventual network loss and overall sluggishness (was always like that since I've got it 2 years ago though). In SC right now, being replaced with P/N 2728212-S0-B. Wondering what's the difference against Rev. A, because most likely...

Model S Price Cut 1 Day after delivery...

The price cut has nothing to do with competition which 1) doesn't exist yet; 2) has a huge issue with charging network.

Model S Price Cut 1 Day after delivery...

This. Just a fair business practice TSLA has no idea about.
  9. ac_power

Model S Price Cut 1 Day after delivery...

Same story again. If TSLA has resources to lower price for all future purchases, why not to do it in more fair way for those few recent buyers, like prorating the discount back, say 3% per day. All around looks like Mr. Musk is just playing with the price tag, dropping it randomly and doing...

    Model S gets $3K price drop then a $2570 drop to $69420!

Fantastic news. Anybody's in line to get a preowned outdated short warranty TSLA for whole few $K less than a new one ?

    2012 P85 what to do

About same number here. But Tesla doesn't buy out one way (that would probably be a good option though), trade-in only. While I'm thinking of taking a break into high grade ICE or I-PACE.
  12. ac_power

    2012 P85 what to do

This is a fantastic example, look at this: - all Apple-specific components are strictly controlled, you cannot buy them on open market (reminds anything ?); - soldering iron won't do the job, you need hot air reflow station and decent SMT skills; - there's a chance of damaging the main board -...

    2012 P85 what to do

I would probably stop right here ^^^ It seems the depreciation curve is getting steeper for older Teslas, so you're losing money more rapidly, still driving an outdated car.
  14. ac_power

    2012 P85 what to do

Global resellers usually offer warranty, and have enough resources to smoothen the situation if the deal goes wrong. This is why they're paying less for the incoming cars, and buying without detailed inspection left and right.

    2012 P85 what to do

I think I saw somewhere that you've got battery replaced. Nevertheless, congrats on your brave experiment. The list of repairs on my car in less than 2 years is probably worth $40K. Edit: I already made my mind that I'll keep it if they do the same

    2012 P85 what to do

@eyedrop, exactly. Little concerned about selling it privately as I don't really want to throw the ticking bomb over the fence like you said. Especially if it's someone's first EV experience. Will see what else SC finds, and I guess short trip to CarMax should add some clarity. Have to admit...

    2012 P85 what to do

Runs just fine, and all three times arrived to SC on wheels (and BTW, Tempe, AZ service team is doing tremendous job). Wouldn't mind keeping until terminal stage, but not sure I will ever be able to sell it for parts here. And what could I expect price-wise, say, with dead battery ?
  18. ac_power

    2012 P85 what to do

Warranty expires end of Dec, looking for potential options. Basically, between selling it about now or running until it dies then selling for parts. But then the question is if there's any demand for non-running MS in AZ. 76K miles, some warranty repairs (drive unit 2x times, MCU under...

    Another rejected model Y

Funny thing is that Tesla will need to fix those issues eventually. So why not to do that sooner ? Every delivered car of such quality is hitting the reputation, while it could be promoting it. OK, you cannot get your factory processes together - set up SCs to do batch refinement on all incoming...

Finding it hard to remain passionate about Tesla

Quite indicative to watch how the threads, whom OPs would be publicly crucified couple years back, now are going through the roof with likes. I really hope someone will catch notes, but the reality is that as long Tesla has an access to the new customer base, they can keep selling cars without...

Blog Tesla Beats Expectations on Revenue, Aims to Exceed 500K Deliveries in 2020

Would be good to see the infrastructure (superchargers, service centers) growing a bit as more Teslas flooding roads.
  23. ac_power

    How’s the Y

I guess there are two major points, 1) what it's compared against, and 2) apparently some of the MYs may be worse. In my case it was rather road noise as the speed stayed below 60mph, and compared to MS P85 on 21" with wider tires.
  24. ac_power

    How’s the Y

Was waiting for the release since announcement, hoping the MYP will be next step from MS P85. Took a test drive recently, and common opinion of 4 people is no-go. All quite subjective, but compared to an old MS, feels like a compromise in pretty much every aspect. - cheap interior trim; -...

Slowly losing my sanity with every account check...

Performance version has priority in shipping, RWD will be the longest wait, AWD in the middle. 7-seater will also be delayed. With preowned market going down, maybe it makes sense to upgrade to performance and get it sooner, vs LR AWD later.

Mustang Mach E is a Gamechanger - My Opinion

Electrify America pricing is 3x of Tesla Superchargers, and 1.5x higher than gas. 2 stalls where Tesla offers 8..15, like already said. Just a forced VAG child which is not meant for real business.
  27. ac_power

    Battery's gone ?

OK, this is important point: the efficiency you mentioned is against rated numbers, and if referring actually consumed energy to the change in battery SoC approximates into close-to-nominal total capacity, then there's nothing to worry about. That's good info
  28. ac_power

    Battery's gone ?

Already looking into diag cable option. 4C was only last 6 mi segment, rest of the driving was at about 13C. Today is much warmer, up to 23C high, still 74 mi / 28.9 KWh consumed 46%. Approximated full range is 161 mi, capacity - 63 KWh. When you say 23% efficiency - basically means your range...
  29. ac_power

    Battery's gone ?

That's probably Sentry mode (and battery heating when it's below freezing point). But otherwise - yes, TM3 has tremendous efficiency. My one is rock solid when sitting still, at least at those temperatures.
  30. ac_power

    Battery's gone ?

OK, charging to 100% didn't fix anything. Morning drive of 18 mi / 7 KWh consumed 15%, and it's much warmer today. Another interesting fact is that charging 45% (from 55% to 100%) consumed only 35 KWh (have a dedicated meter on charger), which with typical charging efficiency of around 80%...
  31. ac_power

    Battery's gone ?

That's what I would normally expect. And all auxiliary consumption would show on energy meter, so W/mi number would be up, thus explaining faster battery drain. But it still shows something next to historical average. And when the car stopped, the power bar is at zero, which means no hidden...
  32. ac_power

    Battery's gone ?

When switching battery indication to rated miles, it consistently shows numbers which approximate into 236..238 mi (like it always was since I've got it in Dec 2018). But when driving, those virtual miles count roughly two for one real, while energy meter keeps reporting 330..370 W/mi like...
  33. ac_power

    Battery's gone ?

Well, I don't think it's normal that 240 mi indicated range is now practically down to 120 at full charge, once temperature lowered a bit, no matter how we convert the numbers. Today it was around 55 F, and 26 mi consumed 22% of the charge so far. This sort of changes the whole perspective...
  34. ac_power

    Battery's gone ?

Trip snapshot from yesterday: All looks legit, except that the day started at 79% charge. Thus, 62.9 mi of driving consumed 43% of the battery capacity. Calculating the percentage back from 23.8 kWh into 100%, it corresponds to 54 kWh full capacity (vs. 85 kWh rated, ~83 actual). No...

VW CEO Says Automaker Can 'Probably Overtake' Tesla 'At Some Stage'

To be fair, E-Tron should be compared to the future Model Y I guess, not Model 3. But even w/o side-by-side comparison, it's a heavy boring overpriced grocery hauler. And they're marketing it as direct replacement to gas version as far as I see, talking about "downshifting", switching driving...

  40. ac_power

    taller tires for comfort

For lower noise, just shop tires with good rating in quietness. Keeping the pressure little lower also makes the ride quieter and smoother (but more floaty). Wider ones may be helpful if traction is a concern, but 245->255 of the same tire will be below sensible difference.

Why there is so much consternation about Tesla rapid pricing changes

Doesn't matter as well. Is it a real number or abstract - if it's stable, and has direct relationship with actual sale price, it does the job in keeping values stable. When everyone knows that majority of the sales of certain make are around 90% of MSRP (or 80% or whatever), then that...

Car flex and losing a roof rack with bikes?

Way to go. Most of the load in bikes-on-roof-rack scenario comes from the air drag, so mounting them behind the car (in "aerodynamic shadow") would remove that, also improving energy efficiency.
  45. ac_power

Why there is so much consternation about Tesla rapid pricing changes

Doesn't matter. As long as MSRP stays stable, both perceived and resale values are OK. Fry's Electronics and Best Buy have external price match guarantee (vs. online or another store), to name a couple. Apparently this is not applicable, except maybe against traditional dealers. However...

  47. ac_power

Why there is so much consternation about Tesla rapid pricing changes

It's not about scarcity. It's technology, which retains value. Even 6-8 years old MS are still super advanced compared to the rest of the market. Good observation, wrong conclusion. When 'new' discounts, all owners of the 'used' ones take a hit. I already pictured a real situation which leads...
  48. ac_power

Why there is so much consternation about Tesla rapid pricing changes

Very true, even as it's rather emotional. But on the practical side - how about all those used teslas which lost thousands in value in one night no announcement ? Some people prefer selling privately (in fact, those cars are usually gems, compared to trade-in ones), and often buy new replacement...

    Sloped roof and drag

Design is probably a big part of it, but what they're doing from aerodynamic perspective, is tapering down the tail in laminar manner to shrink down turbulent zone. Laminar flow has lower surface friction, but can create much lower pressure on negative slope than turbulent one, thus generating...
