Customer Service [bad service center experience]

This is so true. My service experience has been horrible, mostly in the quality of parts and repair job (and Tesla refusing to stand by their work and fix). I love my car but think service is an area where they need to improve. I will definitely be contemplating an Apple car for my next vehicle...

    2019 LR RWD Model 3 w/ FSD & HW3 (LA)

Oof. Sorry. The market space for used Teslas is small and idiosyncratic and hardly a perfect or “rational” one, especially during CV19. It is hard to peg an absolute value to these things and so I imagine there are quite a few sales in which the final transaction price is several thousand above...

    2019 LR RWD Model 3 w/ FSD & HW3 (LA)

With the $1,200 delivery fee, cheapest LR AWD new is $56k and CA rebate brings down to $54k. So I’m $5k under that, with MSM paint and Homelink, no noisemaker, and lower insurance premiums. This is also not a “I have to sell my car right now” situation so if there are no bites there are no bites.

    2019 LR RWD Model 3 w/ FSD & HW3 (LA)

I saw some 2018s with high miles and accidents in the low 40s, but have yet to see a 2019 with low miles and no accidents and FSD/HW3 in that range. If you have a link though that would be great to see. Thanks!

    2019 LR RWD Model 3 w/ FSD & HW3 (LA)

I love this car but I’m tired of obsessing over it, and would be good to save some money too. Specs: 2019 LR RWD Model 3 Midnight Silver Metallic Black Interior 18” Aero Wheels FSD (HW3 factory installed) 9,500 miles Rated 325 miles range, full charge lately is around 318 miles or so (may just...

Regen causing unintended acceleration, according to new study?

Nope. You are saying that in order for a hypothesis to be true, it must be proven *specifically* by the person who thought up said hypothesis. I am saying that neither the hypothesis nor science cares *who* proves or disproves a hypothesis. Hence I don’t find arguments of “well this scientist...

Well there’s a thing, sudden unintended acceleration just happened to me

Out of curiosity @Marc Roberts are your brake lights working? There is a hypothesis that a brake light fault could be causing unintended acceleration. (Not necessarily the case that the brake lights don’t turn on, I believe, but certainly would be interesting to know.) Regen causing unintended...

Regen causing unintended acceleration, according to new study?

That’s not how this works. That’s not how any of this works. If I say “the Earth is round” you would not (hopefully) say “it is flat, unless YOU prove otherwise.” In any case thank you to the folks who read the article and at least considered what he had to say. I hope Tesla or the NHTSA do...

Regen causing unintended acceleration, according to new study?

Cool, got it. Let’s discourage—forbid even—any future inquiries or studies (study, since this appears to be the first one raising the question) into whether brake light faults may have unintended consequences with Bosch brakes. Good things happen when corporations and regulators bury their heads...

Regen causing unintended acceleration, according to new study?

I’m still waiting for someone—anyone—to debunk his theory that brake light faults may interact with the Bosch brake module and EV Regen to cause unintended acceleration. I’d welcome that. But all I see are people saying “well he’s been wrong in the past so he must be wrong now too,” or, “anyone...

Regen causing unintended acceleration, according to new study?

Yup. I think you misunderstand how science works. It’s not like on the movies. It’s tough work and more disproven hypotheses than proven ones. Fits and starts and dead ends abound. No one has convinced me (or will) why his conclusions in this article do not at least deserve careful...

Regen causing unintended acceleration, according to new study?

Honestly this guy sounds like a pretty good scientist to me. He has come up with a theory, acknowledged that he may well be wrong, and is asking others to test his theory (which is proper; even if he did test his theories himself, someone else should retest).
  13. T

Regen causing unintended acceleration, according to new study?

Rather than finding fault with the scope of this particular paper (and he talks about the complexities of testing the brake fault hypothesis), I believe the safe and responsible thing would be for Tesla and Bosch and the other companies (let alone the regulators) to at least look at and consider...

Regen causing unintended acceleration, according to new study?

From what I understand, this is a retired (in his late 70s I believe) engineer who volunteers his time with this nonprofit and sort of does these papers as a hobby. I don’t think the onus is (or should be) on him or the organization to do this sort of testing, since he’s already providing a...
  15. T

Regen causing unintended acceleration, according to new study?

This new scientific article, below, seems like a huge big deal. Basically it sounds as though EVs, including Teslas, may be interacting with Bosch brakes to in essence short circuit (especially when the brake lights error code is triggered) and accelerate due to loss of regen/addition of motor...

Touch up paint for aero wheel

Has anyone tried the Midnight silver metallic (MSM) touch up paint from Tesla? I happen to have a MSM car and bought the kit to fix a tiny scratch on a painted panel, and thought I might try it on a tiny patch of curb rash on one of my aero rims I noticed the other day, too. The color of the...

Tesla Cameras' Coverage and Field-of-View for AP

The cameras do not have consistent 360 coverage. If you watch the video I posted, and watch for cones (there’s a stretch of them toward the end to the right side of the vehicle) you will definitely find frames where a cone disappears into the blind spots. it is easy to imagine scenarios in...

Tesla Cameras' Coverage and Field-of-View for AP

Look again, video of his that I posted is of the fisheye, the medium camera, the B Pillars, and the repeater cams. There is much better coverage of the rear of the car, in fact, given the position of the rear facing fisheye and how the repeater cams jut out. You can see the blind spots...

Tesla Cameras' Coverage and Field-of-View for AP

I guess I just question why are there any blind spots, and why the camera housing winds up taking up valuable pixels that could have been used for the road. I assume it’s an aesthetic design decision, but, if you’re going to base your entire AP approach on cameras, and if you want a level of...

Tesla Cameras' Coverage and Field-of-View for AP

Hi All, One thing that makes me a bit nervous is the AP blind spots that Tesla seems to have at the front two corners. Cars sometimes "disappear" (albeit less frequently now with the latest software update) from my screen as I pass them, and I think it's due at times to these blindspots. If...

How Tesla Calculates Range (hidden buffer)

Thank you for doing this research! Does that mean, in an emergency, even if your car shows 0 km or miles remaining, there may be about ~4% of the total miles remaining? Or will the car simply shut down at that point? (I realize in either case it’s very bad for the battery to bring it to absolute...

LR RWD Power Boost to 270kW (362 horsepower)?

    2020.12

My dog and I just finished our social distancing / 2020.12 testing daytime drive (FSD HW3). Definitely much improved autopilot / NOA on the highway. I was particularly impressed with vehicle tracking, and only counted two cars that “disappeared” when they hit what seem to be the Tesla’s forward...

    2020.12

Thanks, I’ll try that! (I had switched to “average” a while ago since I hadn’t noticed any quicker lane changes, but sounds like maybe they’ve tweaked?)
  26. T

    2020.12

I definitely feel an improvement on autopilot/FSD (HW3 LR RWD M3 here). Perhaps the placebo effect, but feels like smoother and (slightly) more logical lane changes on NOA. It also seems to be tracking surrounding cars better, at least at night. Fewer (perhaps even no) cars that disappear...

Is it possible to find a LR under $40,000?

I agree re the “sellers of opportunity”... I have a 2019, HW3, FSD, MSM LR RWD with aero 18” wheels and 5k miles. I crunched the numbers and would happily sell for $54,918 (provided I get to keep the $3,750 tax rebate, and that is unclear; otherwise add that to the total too). This isn’t really...

Smart summon takes corners around objects too sharply

Hi All, Do other people have the experience of smart summon essentially getting the car’s nose/front around an object (usually a parked car at the end of a parking aisle) and then apparently forgetting that the object is still there by the time the side & rear of the Tesla swings around...

How to access ECU / Autopilot computer / hardware on model 3?

I wouldn’t despair, you well could have HW3 since I believe all the codecs are now the 264. There are threads on how to check the computer physically. Since I was waiting to buy specifically until I could buy a HW3 vehicle, this was important to me. It was nice to confirm that I had HW3...

    Used 2018 LR vs new 2019 SR+

I’m very happy with my LR RWD, which I bought new right before they discontinued. Just did a road trip this weekend (and you will want to do road trips in this car) and the extra range really did help. Only had to supercharge once for about 20 minutes (and supercharging is FAST with the bigger...

Tesla Insurance filing - evidence of AP/FSD Subscription?

At a closer glance, this MAY be the “autonomous vehicle PROTECTION package” referenced elsewhere in the doc. Which is not as exciting. Darn.
  32. T

Tesla Insurance filing - evidence of AP/FSD Subscription?

Are there any actuarial types that have seen page 119 of the very long Tesla California insurance application floating around? If I’m reading this correctly, looks like there’s an “Autonomous Vehicle Package” that may be added to the final premium. This is separate from the autopilot discount...

    LR RWD Waiting Room

For folks that ordered LR RWD in the last week or so, without AP, did Tesla offer you any deals to take AP? E.g. we’ll throw in AP for $2K? If not, how much were you offered to upgrade post purchase? I thought I heard of that happening somewhere but recent experience would be helpful.

The new FSD computer vs HW2.0/2.5 with ONLY AP or EAP

Yes but I do not believe he was trying to take the exit, he was intending to stay in his own lane and so it was Autosteer and TACC that made the error here (not NOA). Autosteer still needs to recognize exits/medians to avoid crashing into them. I last drove a 2.5 HW Tesla about a month ago, on...

The new FSD computer vs HW2.0/2.5 with ONLY AP or EAP

The Model X that got into the accident on the 101 was surely not on AP1. Regardless, I believe there is far, far more improvement possible with Autosteer/TACC. In any case we may have to agree to disagree about this Knightshade. Guess we’ll all find out in a few weeks/months.
  36. T

The new FSD computer vs HW2.0/2.5 with ONLY AP or EAP

Autosteer and TACC are a part of EAP, FSD, and AP. There are at least a handful of documented incidents in which Autosteer/TACC have run into things. Those features are, I think we would all agree, by no means perfected yet. I highly doubt that Tesla would want to chance more accidents/bad PR...

The new FSD computer vs HW2.0/2.5 with ONLY AP or EAP

The part where it sometimes runs into things.
  38. T

The new FSD computer vs HW2.0/2.5 with ONLY AP or EAP

Who knows but I don’t see the logic in Tesla maintaining two different NNs for HW3. Since driving on AP is essentially the same as driving on FSD sans lane changes it stands to reason that AP will use the same NN too (with certain features like lane changes etc. just turned off).

Model 3 Configuration Page now showing Adjusted FSD Pricing

I’m actually somewhat relieved; if I was on the fence at $5k it’s a “hell no” at $6k. So now there’s no decision to fret over. If it goes down to $2-4K I might bite, otherwise will wait for the subscription Elon said was coming.
  40. T

LA and SF frequent traveler (does autopilot helps tremendously)

As someone on the fence about basic AP vs FSD, what percentage of the relaxation comes from the autosteer/TACC (AP) vs the NOA/auto-lane-changes (EAP/FSD)? Realize may be hard to quantify but would still be helpful!

LR AWD AP vs. LR RWD FSD (April 2019)

Thanks, that’s helpful re thinking about the two separately. I keep hoping they release a new MR with about 275 miles range at around $41-42K including autopilot. That would be something to think about.

LR AWD AP vs. LR RWD FSD (April 2019)

Hi All, Apologies for another one of these threads but I don’t think I’ve seen this exact comparison at the current prices. Now that HW3 is on the car I’m leaning toward ordering a LR AWD AP (and then waiting to see if FSD goes on sale and/or becomes available as a subscription at some point...

    Let's talk radar!

Thanks @Troy - though to play devil’s advocate, and unless I’m mistaken, Elon Musk didn’t say that new vehicles wouldn’t include new sensors, just that FSD didn’t require them or entail any other retrofits to existing vehicles. So it could be that FSD works with the current sensors—and works...

    Let's talk radar!

I’ve been following the radar situation somewhat closely—if Tesla is upgrading their radars I’d like to wait for that to happen before I purchase. Continental teased their 5th generation radar at the end of 2017, claiming it would start production in 2019. Fifth Radar Generation Meets Future...

No to which part, Gigagrunt? There are like 3 contradictory statements in there. Appreciate your perspective!

    LR RWD Waiting Room

I stand corrected, my sales guy confirmed AP not included even with FSD. Seems like maybe there was a brief period on Friday when the system wasn’t updated and you could get for $49,500. But no longer. Ah well. Guess I’m back to waiting again.

    LR RWD Waiting Room

Thanks Indyquad. I was quoted 49,500 for those options, but admittedly I don’t know if it was a 2018/2019 or if it was a demo, etc. And could have been an error on the sales guy’s part. Hope to find out soon. Any other recent prices out there for LR RWD cars with FSD?
