I might be mistaken but during stage separation the first stage seemed to be exposed to more of the second stage back blast than usual. This might have caused problems with the plumbing for the grid fins. I wonder if they have implemented the auxilary backup pump system for the grid fins yet.

The fairings are reflecting the sun which makes them bright. The fairings seem like they have thrusters but in actuality they are just caught in the exhaust of the second stage rocket and are reflecting the gasses.

You might be right. I believe Elon did mention something about the small transporter being able to accelerate the same as small vehicles to be able to keep up with stop and go traffic. Heavy acceleration would suck if you are facing backwards.
