Bubbling instrument cluster - need to replace glass?

Unfortunately had to go with option 1, since my eBay seller sent me the wrong LCD. Here are some additional tips: Goo Gone Pro is nearly useless. Use 99% alcohol - it works the best Use Nitrile gloves from beginning to end, including removing the LCD - the glue does not stick as well to the...

Bubbling instrument cluster - need to replace glass?

Thank you, I'll bring this back to the TSC whenever I decide to change to MCU2. The TSC Advisor gave me the reverse of the 2 numbers ($1,750 for AP2/2.5 and $2,250 for non AP cars). For now, I'm going to swap out the display only.

Bubbling instrument cluster - need to replace glass?

So you laid the LCD screen face down into a flat container with 1-2mm of 100% alcohol in it to loosen up the glue, and then removed the glue? Perhaps I'll try this first. How long did you let the LCD sit in alcohol? Did you use a standard lens cleaning solution to clean & polish the LCD face?

Bubbling instrument cluster - need to replace glass?

A few years ago, my main screen was delaminating and Tesla performed the maintenance under warranty. I've not had the main display bubble since then. On my last TSC visit, I asked about doing the same for the instrument cluster and they said this was not offered. TSC told me the solution was...

Bubbling instrument cluster - need to replace glass?

TSC quoted me $2,250 because I don't have AP. What I read on this forum is that's it's not a whole lot of work for option 2. From what I've ready, I may need a battery replacement and a motor replacement in the next few years. So for now, I'm going to hold off on the MCU2 upgrade.

Bubbling instrument cluster - need to replace glass?

In option 2, I'm not planning to separate the original glass and monitor screen. I'm replacing the monitor screen completely and not using the original glass at all. In this forum, most posters commented that the glue was a PITA to remove. I did see in this post where I might need to remove...

Thank you, but I'm not planning to update to MCU2.

Bubbling instrument cluster - need to replace glass?

I don't understand. For option 2, why would i need to remove the glue? The one from Reel Deal EV does not have the glass on it.

Bubbling instrument cluster - need to replace glass?

I am ready to replace the instrument cluster in my 2013 MS. I don't want to upgrade to MCU2 ($2,250 due to no cameras/AP1 in my car, not $1,500). I've read multiple posts where owners: 1. Remove glass and clean off all glue - attach glass to new screen via foam tape 2. Replace screen (no glass)...

Clunk from front wheels - bearings or struts?

@beatle great advice and thanks for your keen eye. Pulling the wheel off and shaking the suspension seemed solid. An open ended wrench and hex bit revealed a 1/4 of a turn was fully tightened. No more clunking! It's hard to believe it made that much noise. I need an open ended torque wrench.

Clunk from front wheels - bearings or struts?

Thank you @beatle I see the movement now. I will check them for tightness, I don't recall them having that much play when I installed them. They are aftermarket so perhaps the hole size is the issue. Worst case, I have an appt with Tesla on 2/14 and I will replace them with Tesla parts at that...

Clunk from front wheels - bearings or struts?

@beatle I’ll check the play again fully down and under load. It doesn’t sound like bearings which makes me think it’s the strut. Plus the noise happens as the suspension flexes.

Clunk from front wheels - bearings or struts?

Good idea @DerbyDave. That cover on the left is loose because I have removed the front part of the wheel liner so I could attach a gopro to the fan shroud, in order to get a better view of the control arm linkage. The noise still occurs when the wheel liner is re-attached.

Clunk from front wheels - bearings or struts?

2013 MS RWD, 108K miles. Have replaced all control arms (upper, lower forward and lower aft, all had worn bushings) and stabilizer control bars. Still getting a sound from the front left wheel well. Seems to most often occur when going over bumps or uneven surfaces. Sound is consistent from low...

setting up ordering from Tesla EPC directly - per TSC

I spoke to the GM at the Decatur Service center and walked him through my email exchange with the body shop (hoping he could spot a mistake I made). He was a bit amazed that I was getting the run-around from the body shop email. He then pulled the parts for me. He said that I was the first...

    Strutmasters Control Arms

Two additions for anyone replacing the lower control arms (fore and aft). First, you will need 2 more bolts and nuts in addition to the parts list above (to attach the air shocks to the lower aft/rear arms). See below 1056323-00-A - Bolt HF M14X102 PC109 (2) 2007073 - Nut HF M14X2.00...

setting up ordering from Tesla EPC directly - per TSC

I've been trying to order some parts from my Tesla Service Center. Each time I used the service appointment to setup a parts order, the response in the app was to order online from epc.tesla.com. I'm curious if anyone else is getting the same instructions, and if you were able to successfully...

    Strutmasters Control Arms

I just ordered Sidem parts for my 2013 MS off eBay, after reading this thread that the Beck Arnley arms are actually Sidem arms. The Sidem has the redesigned ball joint on the track (lower) control arms. $784 with taxes and shipping for 6 total parts (2 upper control arms, 2 lower control arms...

    Nearly new Michelin X-Ice 275 45 19 tires (5)

Note I only have one left and it may be cheaper to send it via UPS than Greyhound. DM me your city/state and I'll quote UPS vs. Greyhound. Selling 5 Michelin X-Ice Snow tires. These have very low miles, like new. I will sell one of them separately ($100), but prefer a single buyer. Does Replacing 3G Modem with 4G/LTE Affect Radio?

No it does not kill the radio. I had this done a few months ago for the cost of the parts while the eMMC was being repaired under warranty. Order your LTE modem prior to scheduling service, which should be about $109 with tax ($85 for card (1054968), $18 for the SIM card (1035347), $3.60 for a...

Parts list and instructions to add 2016+ center console into 2012-2016 MS

All that time writing it up and I made a mistake. I originally put 1080669-00-A as the cables, but the embedded charger is 1047537-00-C. It's referred to as a "Dual Port Charger". Search eBay for 1080669 and you'll see what you are trying to find. IIRC, this was about $90 at the TSC. For the...

Remove center console on 2017 Model S

After you pull the cubby, pop the sliding lid off. If it's not there, then it's probably behind the console and the chassis that holds the console. This install guide should be helpful, between steps 23 and step 35. I'd first start by popping off the 2 sides (parts 7 & 8 from the Tesla parts...

eMMC recall replacement - had 3G to LTE modem replaced for parts cost

@slainla once I got my letter, I messaged TSC using the app and scheduled an appointment. I told them I was scheduling my eMMC repair based on the recall letter I received from Tesla. Note that I had reported prior issues with a black screen, perhaps that helped. They rescheduled my appointment...

eMMC recall replacement - had 3G to LTE modem replaced for parts cost

I had the same result as you @slainla until I received the Tesla recall letter for the repair. Have you checked your VIN for the recall? By the way, the MCU upgrade is now $1,500. I don't know if the TSC will replace the modem as part of that service.

eMMC recall replacement - had 3G to LTE modem replaced for parts cost

I had my 2013 Model S in for the eMMC recall/replacement. While I was waiting on the eMMC part to arrive, I messaged the TSC asking what the cost would be to replace my 3G modem with the 4G/LTE board. TSC in Decatur, GA quoted me the parts-only cost for the replacement ($118.21). Plus they fixed...

Remove center console on 2017 Model S

Unsure of the different configurations, but Tesla's EPC shows this illustrated with 4 clips. I've seen several with 2 clips and tabs on eBay. Although there are 2 part numbers, this site shows the 1018893 part as having 4 clips. Perhaps 1018893 is for RHD and 1045057 is for LHD?

Remove center console on 2017 Model S

@John41, I installed the full sides, center console et al in my 2013. Start at the front top of the panel and work back toward the armrest. There are no screws holding these panels into the sides. Once you get the left and right panel pulled away the cubby has 4 u-clips that just snap under the...

Part numbers for power folding mirrors (for retrofit)

I've been looking into retrofitting the power folding mirrors on my March 2013 MS P85. Tesla's EPC lists a basic and premium part number, but a member posted different parts numbers when he had his mirrors upgraded. I realize I need the adapter harness (1025215-00-A) and power folding switch...
