Seconding to simply power off the car via menu. I personally don't think there is any harm in leaving it on, it's just packets being sent either way, but it's an extra precaution we take cause it's trivial. No need to disconnect the 12v.

    CYW LOCKED ?

No, there is a default speed limit for service mode for a variety of reasons. Once you leave service mode there is basically no difference in how your car performs.

    CYW LOCKED ?

It stands for Gateway. The gateway is the state management system for the car, holding its config and managing the data sent through it. No, it's not a concern. It just means service commands sent over ethernet will be rejected. Even when "unlocked" I don't think it accepts arbitrary commands.

As far as I know, all XM tuners should work; we had some older information that said the B tuner wouldn't work but that was before the software update.

Stalk or no stalk argument [not] settled

Yes, that's the contention. You can't use the feedback from the first adopters as an argument for a general population. I'm not calling your feedback biased, it's your take. I'm saying you can't use yours and others as representative for the general population. It's about a population, so I...

Stalk or no stalk argument [not] settled

It's called selection bias: those that took delivery of their stalk-less car are most receptive to it. It's not like we are getting an honest and fair sample of the driving population when we ask people that spent 50k+ on a car if stalkless driving was an issue.

The plastic should be radio transmissive since WiFi is around the same frequency of SiriusXM, and the housing of the patch antenna is thicker than the plastic of the mirror housing. It looks like there is enough clearance based on videos for a vertical orientation but I'll check myself when I...

Factory OEM SiriusXM nearly working in Tesla 2022 Model 3

That would be my half-assed attempt, haha. Mine is a bit different being a non-branded Antenna but it's largely the same "patch antenna" with a slightly wider form factor due to the underlying circuit board. I don't know why we have never suggested this but why aren't we putting this in the...

Tesla recalls 2 million vehicles to limit use of Autopilot

FYI: If anyone is holding off on updating and accidentally connected to WiFi, if you go into service mode to "software reinstall" it will clear the downloaded update. Obviously do so at your own risk yada yada and you can't undo anything you already installed; only clear what you haven't yet.

The antenna is/was between the B roof pillar and the glass. Not 100% on the plaid but I don't see why they would change it other than needing to remove the glass to get to it.

When I get some time I'm going to dig out some plastic in a right rear reflector and try to embed a stripped antenna in epoxy to make it truly seamless. I think at that angle it will drastically affect the signal quality though, would you feel up to try driving around with it taped to the...

I bought mine for facebook marketplace under $50. Offerup and 5miles are other alternatives. Finally car-part.com can get you reaaaally cheap parts if you're local and you can pick them yourself.

Toolbox 3 Gateway Configuration Edit on Model 3 / Y?

Realistically, that's $10k of work, which might even be patched eventually. Voltage glitching internal hardware and loading custom firmware will never be commercially viable.

This is amazing news. Now if the new parking visualization is good enough I might actually consider buying a new model 3!

Silly question but does your adapter "short" the signal in any way? I know CAN works regardless of this but I don't know about ethernet.

The API seems to be about accessing information for a fleet of cars, not for apps to be installed within the Tesla OS itself. Unfortunately we still have not cracked how to get SiriusXM working on Ryzen cars, but it is an app that is pre-loaded into all cars. It just doesn't play anything.
  20. P

The app loads, you can change channels, but there is no sound.

Correct. We believe it's a gateway parameter that is causing it to not load the correct codec.

Stalk or no stalk argument [not] settled

You keep bringing this up as if there is no examples of missteps in innovation, or that a screen based gear selector is somehow giving you a greater latitude in design as touchscreens enable. A more analogous example is the magic mouse.

Got it, you are just trolling for an argument. You weren't actually trying to understand my/our position.

Stalk or no stalk argument [not] settled

Come on dude. You can disagree that it's slower to select gears with a button press above your head or on the screen than a flick next to the steering wheel, but being stuck in snow is definitely a safety risk. I've had to rock my car out of snow due to drifts when there is oncoming traffic...

Stalk or no stalk argument [not] settled

I hope someone brought this up but when your car gets stuck in the snow, it's already a gigantic pain in the ass to rock it out. You need to repeatedly switch gears, which is slow, and also repeatedly hit "slip start" while coordinating the gas and brakes. Taking the gear selector off the...

Umm... My Model 3 driver power seat switches are drunk.

I remember having to do something else besides the recalibration, like put the seat back as much as possible, but I couldn't remember it so I didn't share it. I did get that recalibration failed message several times, until I fiddled around with it and it no longer gave me that error.
  28. P

Umm... My Model 3 driver power seat switches are drunk.

This happened to me. I ended up trying to do recalibration but it failed. Despite it failing, the correct operation returned to the switches. My seat settings wouldn't save too and this resolved it. My theory is that they changed the data structure to the seat settings at some point, and it...

Who else was hoping for SiriusXM to make it to the new highland, along with other Model S features (e.g. the rear screen)? Guess the only thing we can do is the Onyx roadie on the new cars. Between no solution to that and the lack of USS (yes I know about the camera), I'm probably skipping it.

Welcome to our little club Brandon, and thanks as always to Crackers for being there to properly greet our new "members." :) I've been keeping an eye out on other threads that mention gateway access that might allow us to get SiriusXM on newer Ryzen-equipped vehicles. Unfortunately Tesla still...

Eliminating the funk for good... a UV-C light next to the condenser?

I just wanted to throw this idea out there. I don't really care about the funk; it vaguely smells like petrichor to me and I don't mind it. In principle though, who wants to drive a stanky car? There are many solutions out there, but I've noticed that they never work for everyone. Some protocol...

Gen 3 Wall Connector - Is Surge Protection Already Present, or Is It a Requirement At the Main Panel?

The charger should only be drawing 48 amps (derated), plus either leg of the service can handle 100 amps continuous (depending on your source, some guy apparently contacted the NFPA to confirm in some electrician forums but then another cited some newer feeder regs) so there should be plenty of...

Part of my motivations in installing SXM was after driving out west and losing service for many hours at a time. Sometimes where you want to go doesn't have cell phone towers.

I had assumed you could just use Wireshark to sniff packets as it uses UDP for the gateway based on this source. Maybe it changed with the newer models? The fact it uses an automotive protocol over ethernet is surprising.

I want to say they were an inch. Too long to quickly tighten but short enough to lose inside the crevices of the panels.

Update to 2022.44.30 reset all settings?

2018 2023.2.10 here. My phone was weirdly disconnected from the car, and when I restarted the MCU, everything was gone. Factory reset, nothing saved. I was using my trip meter as a way to measure efficiency over the year so I'm pissed. Lost all my homelink stuff, all configs gone, and got that...

I appreciate the mod helping mediate the conversation, but yeah, I'm also relieved that the behavior is innate to the audio stack, instead of our possibly janky wiring. I'm on 2023.2.10 and everything is working the same.

To the best of our knowledge this is not possible unless someone has higher-level gateway access to change the codes; even then it might not work.

Did you ever try connecting the FM ground (center?) lead to the shielding of the fakra connector (the metal part which protrudes a bit) and one of the FM signals to the center? Interesting idea about leaving that bolt disconnected. It shouldn't affect the grounding, it might affect the heat...
  42. P

Factory OEM SiriusXM nearly working in Tesla 2022 Model 3

No idea on the connection. I might solder the wire and the shielding to the jumpers and then wrap in electrical tape. There might be elegant fakra adapters too but would be too expensive for your purposes imo. As for the distortion, it doesn't seem digital so I think it is indeed related to...
  43. P

Factory OEM SiriusXM nearly working in Tesla 2022 Model 3

The ground is necessary for a coaxial signal (the center pin off the antenna as you pointed out). The ground may be connected on the fakra via a braided wire (if you cut into it) or via the metal shielding on the connector. If you leave the fakra ground floating it will just build up resistance...
  44. P

Factory OEM SiriusXM nearly working in Tesla 2022 Model 3

I am pretty sure one of the leads off the antenna is just for noise filtering (via destructive interference) within the amp. On the other hand the fakra just has one wire for signal (the inner one) while there is a braided wire around it for EMI filtering. You should be able to trace the ground...
  45. P

Factory OEM SiriusXM nearly working in Tesla 2022 Model 3

I haven't observed this behavior. I was reticent at first about using the amplifier on the second antenna because though it would increase the amplitude, it probably does nothing for the signal to noise ratio. I suspected that maybe I might lose channels or data over channels because the...

Service Mode- What can I do with it?

I... wish I didn't hear that. :( I'm not going to mince words. I've never heard of such heavy-handed moderation on any car forum I've been on (Cadillac, Volt, DIY EVs) where literal built-in diagnostics are censored. That is very disappointing to hear. I'd argue the elusiveness of service mode...

Service Mode- What can I do with it?

Erm, yes, that is quite a few updates behind now (March-April). I guess it's a good datapoint but I'm sure someone can just check the update history.

Service Mode- What can I do with it?

This isn't some big secret. Just go into the software submenu in the settings, press and hold the "Model 3" branding, and enter "SERVICE" when the dialog box pops up. It hasn't been geofenced for a few updates now.

Confirmed. I took a long drive today and the unit now randomly resets, sometimes as short as 5 minute intervals. Now I feel bad I didn't test it more extensively before giving my seal of approval :(. I'm guessing the people on the Model S/X side of things aren't having a fun time either.
