Super curious what the country folks will do when the CT starts rolling out en-masse. It will destroy conventional trucks in nearly every metric with the sole exception of long distance hauling (for now). Unlike ford, gm, and rivian, Tesla will be able to truly ramp production too, which...

Autopilot was about to kill me

I have the same issue. In my most recent case, the hwy was wide open and the car (3P) seemed to have room ahead in the turn lane and be slowing appropriately, so I let it do it's thing and it eventually pulled back out of the turn lane onto the main hwy. This seems to be a lot worse in FSD...

Tesla FSD - A Five Year Perspective

I've also been using AP/FSD for about 5 years. My 2018 3 came with EAP and I upgraded to HW3 and "FSD" in 2021. Overall I usually enjoy using it, mainly because it generally eliminates some of the commuting emotional drama (someone else is driving). However, I've noticed that FSD chronically...

See? I KNEW body castings and structural battery packs were a bad idea!

Depends on where the crack is. Kind looks like it could be the intersection of the cowl, firewall and upper fender. Given the massive amount of "material redundancy" in these castings, I suspect that in the vast majority of cases, the casting-process-related cracks don't grow, which is...

I have to listen to garbage like this almost daily. The most recent being that EVs will bring down the grid.

See? I KNEW body castings and structural battery packs were a bad idea!

A hot tear or hot crack is a manufacturing (casting) flaw. Flexing while driving could make it grow if it's big enough and/or in a high stress area.

See? I KNEW body castings and structural battery packs were a bad idea!

Cast aluminum has some ductility. Less than stamped steel, I agree, but it's not guaranteed to crack. moreover, some of those cracks (depending on where they are present) will arrest. Consider the assembly of the spot welded stamped steel montage that comprises an inner fender. The total...

See? I KNEW body castings and structural battery packs were a bad idea!

To me it looks like a hot tear/hot crack. This occurs during cast/cooling when the material is still semi-molten and weak, and the shrinkage stresses essentially pull the material apart. it's impossible to have a casting w/o some cast-related issues (shrinkage porosity, gas porosity, hot...

    Supercharger - Henderson, TX

Yeah, me too. My son is a student (senior BSME) at LeTourneau, so it's been painful to rely on Lindale SC and whatever L2 charging we can scrounge in Longview. Places like this remind me that EVs (even Tesla) are not mainstream vehicles yet. We need a staggeringly larger amount of fast DC...

Supercharger - Van Horn, TX (permanently closed)

This is not good. Don't know about ya'll but my P3 would struggle to make it from the Pecos SC to the El Paso SC (~225 miles) if I was cruising at 80-85 mph, which is the appropriate speed on I10 in that area.

Same. Never use it, but still...WTF.

FSD attempts to run red light, twice

I'll try to drive through that intersection again, to see if I can recreate the issue. I'll have to find a time when there is little traffic and park on the shoulder just shy of the intersection, and then approach it when it turns red (presuming I'm not blocked from traffic). This is the...

FSD attempts to run red light, twice

That makes a lot of sense. Wonder if that's part of the rationale for the camera upgrade in HW4.

FSD attempts to run red light, twice

I've had FSD for roughly 10 months now. I've tempered my expectations and generally enjoy it more often that not. I've gotten pretty familiar with it's strengths and weakness over that period. However, yesterday I was surprised that it literally lurched into an intersection while waiting at a...

Supercharger - College Station, TX - Texas Avenue South

I would guess that the main constraint for almost any SC construction is the lead time for the main power transformer. That can take a while. I would guess that Tesla would not do all this site work if the transformer lead time was not reasonably short. Fingers crossed...because I NEED this...

Definitely workers active on Weds 11/23/22. Looked like the trench was being cemented-in. Ironically, I was driving my wife's Volt, because I had to drive from Austin -> College Station - > Madisonville -> Longview -> College Station - > back to Austin, and I was on a very tight time...

    Supercharger - Huntsville, TX

I just like it when everything works as intended. Seems like up to half the stalls have some issue when I need that location. Glad Centerville is up, and relieves some of the demand. College Station SC will help a lot too. But it would also be nice if Tesla fixes up (maintains) some of the...

    Supercharger - Austin, TX

Which is great. And honestly I don't charge too much in my home town, but on the rare occasion that I need this location, it's always had functionality issues with various stalls. Just curious about Tesla's plan (assuming there is one) on certain locations that seems perennially problematic.

Happy for SA folks, but they need more. Don't understand why AUS, DFW and HOU all seemingly have a reasonable amount and SA does not. The entire south and central areas...have nothing.

    FSD Beta 10.69

Maybe moderately disappointed. I've always tempered my expectations, because I knew this would be immensely difficult for anyone, including Tesla. For me, it's annoying that 69.2 seems to be worse. The herky-jerky drive is is like an overcaffeinated Rain Man with a nervous tic on his right foot.

    Occluded Camera Notifications

Just had this issue during a long night drive (dark, remote hwy). Car is on 2022.20.17. Really made for annoying drive as the audible alarm distracts from the music or audio. Still worked, just the constant loud beep.

Wiki MASTER THREAD: Actual FSD Beta downloads and experiences

gotta say, I don't disagree. 69.2.2 is not much of an improvement , if any. In lots of ways it seems worse than 12.2. more jerky, more hesitation, more phantom brakes. bummer, as I had high hopes.

    Lidar lost Tesla the robotaxi?

Regardless of the technical merits, I'd much rather NOT have LIDAR shining in my eyes from oncoming traffic during my commute. Some will explain away the dangers, but cannot account for the much longer time-weighted damage. https://photonicsreport.com/blog/is-lidar-dangerous-for-our-eyes/

Guess I'll have to keep using my CS mother-in-laws ancient NEMA 10-30. It gets hot/limited so maybe I'll just go ahead and upgrade her electrical, SINCE THE TESLA SC IS LIKE A MIRAGE.

Is FSD Beta responsible for total destruction of this 2020 Model S?

Something doesn't make sense. The truck "swerved" into the center lane, not the left lane that the S was driving in. The truck wasn't even fully in the center lane before the S was in the grass, which again, is very odd. The S went fully into the grass because the driver took over and wanted...

FSD fails to detect children in the road

hmmm, I need to line up some kids in my neighborhood, and see if I can replicate this claim (joking sort of, but not really). So far the FSD in my car is exceptional at identifying, and reacting to humans in the path.
  47. Jmolloy3

Would you buy again FSD today?

Yes. Definitely some issues on the current version, but still amazing when it's not glitching. If you lower your expectations a bit, and anticipate some of the hiccups, it's a lot easier to live with. In fact, I think the entire commute on FSD lowers my BP and keeps me calmer. The...

Yet another, AP fatality under investigation

AP is a legacy software system - glorified lane-keeper with adaptive cruise. It can adjust and brake for CARS/VEHICLES IN THE LANE, not bicycles. That is why Tesla is overtly and loudly stating that the driver must be attentive at all times. It's literally stated every time you engage the...
