Cruise Control - Adjusting the Following Distance

BTW, I’m pretty sure this setting is just “closer” and “farther”, not actual car lengths.

    20" to 18" Wheels

But the 18” OEM tires are about the same diameter as the 20” OEM tires (lower profile), so no impact on effective “ratio”.

NoA brakes on highway for merging vehicles

In general, our job as the non-merger is to maintain our constant speed so the merger can more easily adjust their speed to effect the merge. We shouldn’t regularly as a matter of course move out of the lane to make room for the merger, as now we are just moving the risk over one lane. I try...

How do you open glove box after an accident?

Those documents don’t contain my address in my state.

    Time to change or not?

A new battery will still be much less than a new Tesla. Only reason for a new car is the old one is worn out and can’t be made cosmetically/functionally/reliably sound, or it no longer meets functional requirements, or the new one has must-have new features. Not because the warranty ran out.

2020.12.5.6: Traffic Light & Stop Sign Control

I just took my first drive with Traffic Light and Stop Sign Control (Beta) enabled in our December 2018 Model 3 LR Dual Motor. We had the HW3 retrofit on 4/28, and got 2020.12.11.1 software update 5/1, followed by NA-2020.12 map update later in the day, which allowed me to enable the new...

2020.12.5.6: Traffic Light & Stop Sign Control

Careful with this idea! While you have your foot on the gas ;), TACC and/or Autosteer may not autobrake for you!

    12V Battery Charging??

Just be sure nothing happens that requires a first response.

    A better route planner

They have their own forum. Seems like they would talk about this kind of thing there. I’m not sure of the URL, but it shouldn’t be hard to find.

    Percent or Miles & Why?

Even the charge percentage is only an estimate. There is nothing you can statically measure in a battery of unknown history that will tell you how much capacity it currently has remaining. The only way to measure a battery's capacity is to charge and/or discharge it at known rates of voltage...

    Problems after FSD computer upgrade

Have you seen any evidence that you’ve lost any actual range or could it be just that they’ve changed the estimation algorithm? And are you sure that the change is due to the HW3 itself or could it be that you’re running a different version of the software now?

    Front USB ports not working

Be sure to try different cables if it happens again. To eliminate a flaky cable/connector as the culprit.
  14. T

Front Left USB Dead from factory?

If your USB trouble pops up again, be sure to test the cable before assuming it’s the port. My cable went bad and was replaced under warranty.

What's the most surprising thing you've found once you got your Tesla?

No AM radio. :D No, actually it was the physical effects of such incredible silent acceleration. I’d never experienced that kind of automotive acceleration before, and for it to be so quiet and uncomplicated was a double whammy.

MASTER THREAD: Jack Points — location, use, damage, pads, etc.

Aside from general best practices for flatbed transport, the Tesla Model 3 Owner Manual Instructions for Transporters (p. 175, version 2019.16.1.1, May 16, 2019) clearly states that "The vehicle's tires must be secured onto the truck using the eight-point tie-down method." and that "Attaching...

    Longest "beta" software ever?

Last update, I actually read the disclaimers that came up when I had to re-enable the Autopilot features (autosteer, NoA, etc.). In the disclaimers, they say that the only reason they still call it "beta" is in recognition of the serious consequences if something goes wrong. They say that...

    Tesla Used Autopilot

This is interesting. It seems that if you buy a used M3 from a private seller, or maybe a used car lot, you would expect to get whatever software features were purchased originally with the new car or added later. But when you buy used from Tesla, they could legitimately reconfigure it any way...

    Emergency Lane Departure Avoidance

If you get an audible alert, it was ELDA, because it thought you were unintentionally about to leave your lane AND you might be about to hit something in the next lane or leave the road. If you don’t want this, you have to disable it every time you drive. If there was no audible alert, it was...

    Emergency Lane Departure Avoidance

Blue is not ELDA, but is LDA. There is a difference, though both will try to steer the car. Red is ELDA - audible alarm, collision threat detected (including leaving the road) Blue is LDA - visual alert, no collision threat detected

Near freeway divider collision - on autopilot

I only grit my teeth and carry on when there is plenty of room to recover if Autosteer gets it wrong. I would not have done so in this case, or on a two-lane road with oncoming traffic or limited visibility, etc. It does still all come down to the driver, right now, and the OP identified and...

Near freeway divider collision - on autopilot

Although there have been a couple of other posts noticing that the car did not ever cross the lane boundary, they didn't seem to get much attention. It does look to me like the car did NOT cross the lane line and did NOT "be line [sic] straight toward the divider". It does appear to be...

OP your thread title is misleading. It sounds like you have information about the subject, not asking a question. Please edit it.

    Calibration in progress...

OP, the return period is in case you find out you don’t like Model 3’s. It isn’t your last chance to get problems fixed. If your car won’t finish calibration, but you otherwise like the car, then don’t sweat the return period, just get it handled under warranty.

25 minute hold for emergency roadside service

I have never seen Tesla's Roadside Assistance service identified by Tesla as an "emergency" roadside service, although they do use the word "immediate" in their description. If it is truly an emergency (not just a flat tire, car is in a position likely to cause an accident, etc.), then some kind...

    Just delivered - Functionality Questions

I’m pretty sure the reason streaming video isn’t supported is because Tesla is paying for the cellular data. Their arrangement with AT&T probably prohibits it. Even aside from that, it is certainly a very basic browser.

    Autopilot lane change ping-ponging

I suggest putting the blinker full on for autopilot lane change. AP will turn it off when it’s done and you don’t have to wonder if it aborted because you didn’t leave it on long enough.

Am I pushing my luck with this setup? NEMA 14-50 on a 100amp panel?

My electrician said they can’t put in a single 240v circuit that’s is more than half the service to the house. In my case 125A to house so 60A for my charging circuit, which will only see 32A through UMC, in any case, as others have pointed out. You should be fine, although I’m sure you could...

    Model 3 Charging Efficiency

I thought the point of this thread was charging efficiency, not phantom drain or gaps between predicted and actual range, etc. Can anybody provide more real-world details on what to expect in charging losses? Specifically, what percentage of power from the utility is lost during charging, and...

    NEMA Outlet Orientation Question

This seems like a problem to me. Your electrician installed the outlet upside-down, and it will be at best awkward with the Tesla Mobile Connector, and will in any case cause unnecessary strain on it. I'd get the electrician to fix it.
