    Model S Accident/Fire

Why has it taken so long for the "large metal object" to be identified. I mean, surely it didn't disappear did it? It's either on the side of the road, or still stick inside the car somewhere. Why can't somebody look and tell us all what object it was. I think that is a significant part of...

Short sighted to put the charging port on the rear?

You know.. I haven't seen this discussed anywhere. But I look at how the Tesla Model-S has the charging port on the rear of the car, much like a gasoline car. And I have to ask myself WHY? Being that this car was supposed to break with all traditions of gasoline cars, why keep this one? It...

Texas Supercharger Locations (location speculation, discussion)

Actually, I've charged at that exact location when I went to Houston in my Volt last year. I had to ask the security guard if it was okay to charge there because the way the sign appears would suggest that you need to be BOTH handicapped AND charging an EV in order to use it. He said it was...

Want to rent any Tesla in LA for a week

For $4,000 per week, it better come with Zooey Deschenal or Jeri Ryan in the passenger seat.

    Carmax selling my ICE

I would think a Volt would be closer to a Tesla than a Leaf.

Question for the electricians here....why is car only pulling 202v?

Amps are pulled, voltage is supplied. The car doesn't get a choice over what voltage is supplied. It does have a choice how many amps it wants to pull, though. I would also guess something is feeding from a 3-phase circuit.

    Cars and Coffee - Dallas

Plano is a bit far for me coming from Kennedale. Can you tell me more about this event? Who is usually there? EV drivers? We have a Leaf and a Volt (no Tesla yet)

Texas Supercharger Locations (location speculation, discussion)

Yes, I actually visited this outlet mall on my way to look for Tesla chargers a couple of weeks ago. There is actually an L2 station by Blink already at this facility. However, this outlet mall was pretty pathetic in my opinion. There wasn't even a place to eat or any place with a public...

Texas Supercharger Locations (location speculation, discussion)

I thought the same, but the rest stops line up perfectly with where Tesla says they will be. Also the fact that the rest stops in Hillsboro aren't open to the public yet could explain the delay. Although granted, I would have expected to see some sign of an impending installation at minimum...

Very kind treatment by a Nissan dealership when I asked to charge my Model S

Just a warning about Nissan dealerships. Don't plan a trip around one unless you know for sure they'll let you charge. I've heard of many that will not allow anything but a Leaf to charge there. I've even heard of a few that won't allow Leafs that weren't bought from that dealership to...

Texas Supercharger Locations (location speculation, discussion)

Thanks for that info! I just added it to plugshare. I've been trying to figure out a way to plan a drive from Ft.Worth to Austin in my Leaf and this will help a lot!

Top 10 dumbest things about Internal Combustion Vehicles

At least with a hybrid you eliminate a lot of these issues such as the transmission, idling, brakes, and starter motor. As for the spark plugs, I think that is an exaggeration. I think plenty of cars go well over 100,000 miles before replacing them. Plus they are inexpensive, easy to do, and...

Texas Supercharger Locations (location speculation, discussion)

Well you could probably still make the trip. There are several L2 stations between DF/W and Austin. It would just take longer. I actually checked out the blink station in Hillsboro the other day when I was looking for the supercharger.

So... Check Mate, Internal Combustion Engine

I'm only 38 years old and I've seen many technologies come and go in my lifetime. Some of the more interesting ones for this conversation are: Digital Cameras LCD Monitors/Televisions DVD Players Cell Phones I was an early adopter to all of these things. My friends and family thought...

Tesla on Nightly Business Report - Model X factory in Texas?

One good thing about Rick Perry, he is definitely not anti electric car. Here's a video of him giving a speech on the subject. (skip to about 4:00 for Rick Perry)

    Carmax as a Tesla Dealer?

I certainly wouldn't want carmax to be the dealer. However, I do admit that I fail to see some of Musks arguments about them not being able to sell competitively. At this stage in the game Tesla's prime customers are the ones who have already researched the car and want to buy one. It would...

EV Charging Protocol and Etiquette in Hawaii

I printed a nice little label with my cell phone number. Then I placed the label inside the charge door on both our Leaf and Volt. I also use the plug-share app on my iPhone. I always make sure to "check in" at the station and list how long I plan to be there. If people bother to open...

Texas Supercharger Locations (location speculation, discussion)

I just got back from the two rest stops south of Hillsboro. They are still closed. I had to park on the access road behind the rest stops and walk through some grass to get to them. I didn't' see anything that looked like a supercharger or even anything that might eventually be one. For...

    Another positive Consumer Reports article

I'm pretty much convinced that the naysayers are almost non-existent. I believe they account for less than 1% of the population. They just happen to be very vocal. That and I am also convinced that certain organizations have paid internet shills to attack the comments section of news stories...

Texas Supercharger Locations (location speculation, discussion)

    Watched who killed electric car

I've seen both movies. I would say there definitely needs to be a 3rd. "Revenge of the Electric Car" leaves you with an ending that seems like it is all downhill from there. But as we all know, when the Leaf and Volt showed up on the market, it was still quite a struggle. Everything from...

    Dallas

Just a heads up on this. Every year Pantego Bible Church hosts a car show on father's day in the parking lot. I've brought our EVs the last 2 years and they've been a pretty big hit. Last year our Volt won a trophy for "Best new Car." This year we'll have 3 EVs: Nissan Leaf Chevy Volt Tesla...

    EV courtesy

You can also check plugshare.com (or use the app on your smartphone) to see if anyone has "checked in" at the station. This way it provides you not only with that person's estimated time of return, but often gives you a way to contact that person. I've heard of Leaf drivers unplugging chevy...

Texas Supercharger Locations (location speculation, discussion)

Does anyone know the exact location of the supercharger station between Dallas/Ft.Worth and Austin? Or maybe the one between Dallas/Ft.Worth and Houston? They said they should be online before the end of June. So They must be nearly finished at this point. I have some free time this weekend...

    Why Apple/Google/Whoever Should Buy Tesla

One benefit not mentioned would be that Tesla would become a lot more legitimate in the eyes of a lot of skeptics. There are probably many potential buyers who decide not to buy because they fear Tesla may go out of business and leave them with an unsupported car. But with a big company like...

    Dallas

Would anyone in be willing to bring a Tesla Model-S or Roadster to a father's day car show at Pantego Bible Church on June 16th? About 3,000 people attend this event. I have brought our Nissan Leaf and Chevy Volt the last 2 years and created a little "electric avenue" corner of the show. I...

Is anyone actually buying the 40 kWh Model S at this point?

I'm just the "common man" so any Tesla is out of my price range at the moment. We did lease a Volt and a Leaf, which we've been very happy with both. We wouldn't even have been able to afford those if not for the gas savings we get in return. However, if I were to ever even consider being...

If Tesla Company Ever Closes, Will There Be Support For Us Buyers?

I agree with others that if Tesla couldn't pay the bills, they would be bought up by another company (such as Toyota, probably) But even if the worst case were to happen and they were liquidated, I would think you would still be able to get some parts and service from independents. That will...

    Inside the Tesla battery pack

I'm curious, and I cannot tell from the photos, are these battery cells soldered in? Or are the connections simply being held together by force? I'm just wondering because I'm curious how hard/easy it would be to refurbish a Tesla battery pack in the future when it dies and is out of warranty...

    Nissan Leaf

I, for one, believe the Guess-o-Meter on the Leaf to be very accurate and I use it and trust it. However, I also understand how the car is coming to its conclusion about my estimated range. For example, if I'm gently driving down a 30 mph road for 5 miles straight with the A/C off and the GOM...

    Nissan Leaf

There's another range related consideration that a lot of people don't take into account. I say this as a person who owns and drives a Leaf daily. Its great that the car can do 73 miles per charge. But I always leave a buffer of about 10-20 miles. Maybe that is range anxiety talking, I don't...

Hypothetical: You get one free car... what car do you choose?

Its really hard for me to say since I have never seen or sat in a Model-S in person. I'm actually afraid the car might be too big for my tastes. But I just can't say for sure until I see one up close, or better yet, see how it fits in my garage. I've always liked small cars. The Chevy Volt...

    Cars.com Model S review

The guy seemed distraught over lack of cup holders. Wouldn't bother me any. No drinks are ever allowed in my car, except on occasion a bottle of water. I certainly wouldn't allow kids to carry drinks in a $100,000 car, which would most likely be sitting in the back seat anyway.. so yeah...

Motor Trend Car of the Year 2013

I'm not surprised at all. I saw one last weekend and I was totally unimpressed with it. While I did not get to drive it, I did sit in it. The shifter looks like a dial taken off of a washing machine. The body is as boring and ugly as possible. I think the Mitsubishi i-Miev actually looks...

Motor Trend Car of the Year 2013

Special Event with Elon in NYC on Nov 12?

Yet - by that same standard it makes sense. If Ford, Chrysler, Toyota, GM and all of the big boys are spending ad money, Motor Trend could afford to pick a neutral party who doesn't spend any ad money at all. That way they aren't playing favorites between the companies who are spending ad money.

EVs in the 2012 Presidential Debates

I suspect even if Romney is elected, he'll change his tune on EVs. It won't be right away. But right now he's just looking for ways to make Obama look bad to get elected. As for the tax credits for EVs, I suspect if he really hated them it would still be easier to let them expire on their own...

    Supercharger Event 2012/9/24

Its a pitty they won't include a standard J1772 for other brands of electric vehicles. It isn't like it would have costed a whole lot extra. One nice thing, though. Since they are free I bet they will be more reliable since they won't require any sort of card to validate its use.

How Would You Cope With High Gas Prices?

Yep - and when gas prices fall you always see all of these idiots running out to buy giant monstrosity SUVs and 4x4 Dually pickup trucks. Then when gas prices rise again they will act like it is the first time they've ever seen high gas prices and don't know what to do with their giant vehicle...

Why do diff battery packs have diff 0-60mph times?

I haven't seen any different 0-60 times advertised except for the signature (or performance) edition. However, if there are differences I would imagine the smaller battery packs can't handle the same amp draw. As for range, it isn't linear typically because when you add more batteries...

    Ford Focus EV

Yeah, but Ford has a big advantage doing it that way. They didn't have to spend all of the money to develop an entirely new car. And since it shares so many parts with the regular Focus, it should make the vehicle less expensive to manufacture. I certainly recognize the engineering benefits...

    More anti-ev gibberish

I've given up arguing with people over environmental issues. You'll never change their mind, even with facts. So I just throw them a curve ball. I tell them they didn't have to justify their Hummer (or whatever they drive) to anyone before buying it. Likewise, I have no interest in...
