How I Recovered Half of my Battery's Lost Capacity

And to what SoC do you charge?
  2. L

    Model 3 Range decreased again...

I'm sorry man. It sucks. Really. I've also lost a significant amount of energy retention. Not as bad as you of course. And yes. Talking with the SC won't help. I also get similar explanations: "Everything is normal" © I've been tempted to make some public noise about outlier cars such as...

Battery Management System - What I Learned At Tesla Service Center

No to what? This is exactly what I said.

    Still baffled by range issue

No idea about other models but a Model 3 will always charge to 100% even if you lost 90 miles of rated range.

Battery Management System - What I Learned At Tesla Service Center

In the telegram group of users from Spain that have installed the OBD2 we've observed the contrary in a few cases. People charging 40% to 60% have increased their estimates of Nominal Full Pack. Once they charge from low to high SoC then they get worse charging estimates again. That may mean...

    Still baffled by range issue

This is exactly my feeling when people tell me to put my display in %. A % today is different to a % last year / in a few years. The "miles" display reflects the real energy available.

    10500 miles, 10% “degradation” already?

You probably got one of the not-so-good batteries. I went through all sorts of charging routines and BMS calibration, balancing and so on. Visited the SC a few times. "Everything is normal (TM)". Some owners even had their CAC reset and were instructed how to charge the car. After a few months...

Charge limit to 80% vs 90%. Will 90% significantly degard battery capacity?

The biggest factor in battery degradation is the Tesla Battery Lottery. Many of us have babysitted our batteries and they have degraded 7~10% in less than 10K miles just because.
  9. L

Suddenly lost 10 miles of range.

I have the feeling they ****ed up with some batteries. They simply do not meet the Tesla brand super quality standard in terms of batteries. Not super bad either. But definitely not as good as their affiliates have been promoting in blogs and youtube. For some reason they cannot keep the quality...

Suddenly lost 10 miles of range.

I've tried all sort of different techniques... It's a "problem" on some batteries. I'm sure Tesla knows what's going on there. It's not up to the user. The user did not do anything wrong. They just had bad luck when purchased the car. It's the TESLA BATTERY LOTTERY. If you got a decent one you...

Suddenly lost 10 miles of range.

It's 77.8 including the buffer. The Full Nominal Pack of new cars are around 77 ~ 79, confirmed at the Service Center. One of the guys checked a new car using his tools and it had 78 kWh.
  12. L

Suddenly lost 10 miles of range.

It's a real concern to many of us. I have lost 9% of battery. Measured with an OBD2 cable. Now at 70.5 kWh from 77.8 kWh in 17500kms (less than 11000 miles). I never charge on Super Charger... Service Center will tell me stuff like what you said. Your battery is fine... It's an estimate... Enjoy...

Tesla Service Response to Battery Range Issue...

Understood. Will charge to 90% and report again. I'm not sure what was the SoC when I checked.
  14. L

Tesla Service Response to Battery Range Issue...

Sorry, yes 11 months! Umm.... I will charge to 90% or more to see if that 4.03 is capping or just something related to the current SoC.
  15. L

    SMT: Nominal Full Pack tracking

Have you talked about the issue with the Service Center? What did they say? You're at about 14% degradation.
  16. L

Tesla Service Response to Battery Range Issue...

Mine is at 71.4 kWh. It's 11 year old an 15000 kms. Cell volt max (3.73/4.03): 3.828 Vcc Is that what you are looking for? When should it be checked? At 100% charge or it does not matter? Degradation has come in batches in my case.
  17. L

    SMT: Nominal Full Pack tracking

It's wild. How old is the car and what is its mileage? I'm worried with mine at 71.4 kWh with 15000kms and less than a year. Which is pretty bad. But 66.5 is crazy.

Tesla Service Response to Battery Range Issue...

Your wife starts getting secretive on the phone, stays late at work, doesn't want to have sex with you, improves her personal appearance and burns the credit card? Put your car in % and enjoy it! :)

    Model y battery upgrade?

Where did you get the 77.6 - 79 kWh numbers? In case I decide to contact Tesla, what source of information would you suggest to use to show them the initial FNP is larger than 77 kWh? Thanks
  20. L

Range on midrange reduced to 219 miles

This serves no purpose. Remember the guy that had his CAC reset? Well, after 6 months of that he is still with exactly the same degradation. In many cases it's the battery, not the BMS. Period. See his comment after 6 months: Battery Degradation "fix"? : teslamotors Well, I have installed the...

Tesla Service Response to Battery Range Issue...

Same problem here. 7% degradation in less than a year. 15000kms. SC says everything is fine. They recommended a couple of tricks to recover range. Those tricks only made me loss a bit of more range. I guess the battery calibration process found out I have even less capacity than the one...

    Sudden 1.5% drops in energy

That would be no good, either. Could they also be selling batteries that they already know that are below the advertised range? That would lead to a lot of questions. What is an acceptable tolerance? Guarantee covers more than 30% in 8 years. That leaves a lot of margin for what they could...

    Sudden 1.5% drops in energy

New car. Less than a year with very little mileage (15,000 kms). When new I charged up to 90% and showed 450kms. The car has only been charged 5 or 6 times in a supercharger. It has always been within the % ranges recommended by Tesla to avoid premature degradation except for calibration...

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

11% loss is a shame. I'm sorry man. How many kms do you drive daily? What are your charging habits? In any case, I don't think you did anything wrong. It's the f*cking battery lottery.
  25. L

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

Battery lottery. Tesla told me my battery was fine and the loss of capacity was possibly due to my charging habits. During 3 months I've been following their advice fighting against the car trying to charge only when it's supposed to be good for the BMS algorithms. The car has kept loosing...

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

8% degradation... just checked today and I'm also at 8% loss (LR AWD) and I got the car less than a year ago and only has 9000 miles and have only charged 5 times on SuC. It's a Battery lottery. There are multiple reports of people that don't take any kind of extra care to the batteries and...

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

Same. M3 AWD, less than 15K kms and less than a year and I already see 6 / 7% capacity loss. Charging pattern 30%->80% and 100% once per month (to rebalance). Very little SuC, car sleeps in garage. It sucks.

Slider for charge percentage not accurate?

Yeah, I wrote it the other way around in the first post by mistake but could not edit it anymore. It's more noticeable on 60, 70 and 80%. Thanks for your reply.
  29. L

Slider for charge percentage not accurate?

Did you try setting the App to 80% and then check the car display? Better to be a happy ignorant. LOL. Why would you spend your precious time replying to this post if it's not to try it?
  30. L

Slider for charge percentage not accurate?

The point of this post is that 60, 70 or 80% on the car's display is wrong since in fact it's 61, 71 and 81%. At least on a subset of cars.
  31. L

Slider for charge percentage not accurate?

Set the car to kms and see how moving slider on the App always show increments of 5kms. Do the maths.
  32. L

Slider for charge percentage not accurate?

And it's free. LOL. BTW, did you try setting the app to 80% and then check where it's the slider on the car's display?
  33. L

Slider for charge percentage not accurate?

Not really. The app snaps every 1%. It's not that difficult to set it to 80% exactly. Really. Try it. Then you check on the car display and it's clearly below 80%.
  34. L

Slider for charge percentage not accurate?

Yes it is. I already regret having used that title.
  35. L

Slider for charge percentage not accurate?

Yeah, I used the conspiracy theory to get some attention to the post I must admit. Many fellow posters fell for it. I'm sorry. :-) So, yeah. It's not only me. There's some discrepancy on the readings of the car's display and the reality.
  36. L

Slider for charge percentage not accurate?

You chose to reply to this post instead of setting the app to 80% and then check on the car display. It's better to not know I guess. In fact, ignorance is a possible way to be happy. Good for you ;)
  37. L

Slider for charge percentage not accurate?

Che Chemistry is the same for the App and for the car display. What I'm saying is that the 80% on the car is not the same as the 80% on the App.
  38. L

Slider for charge percentage not accurate?

Yeah. It only happens with 60, 70 or 80%. Cannot edit the first post.
  39. L

Slider for charge percentage not accurate?

Let me EDIT the first post. When setting in the App to 70% or 80% you can see it is set BELOW 70% or 80% in the car display. Could you just check? Does not happen with 90%.
  40. L

Slider for charge percentage not accurate?

I have described a fact that can be easily tested. I set it to 80% and charges to 81%. I set the car to 80% in the App and then go check where is the charging line in the App and it's under 80%.
  41. L

Slider for charge percentage not accurate?

There are a bunch of people that charge to 80% or 90% and then project their total range at 100%. Well, I've found out the grid lines in the display are not set to 60%, 70%, 80% or 90%. At least in my car. Could you check in yours? These lines are clearly set at 61%, 71%, 81% and 91% in my...

Model 3 Performance Battery Degradation One Month (Story)

I just got a call from Tesla and, instead, they advised me to 100% charge to 15% charge once a month. I told them there are a lot of rumours on forums about these BMS calibration procedures and I asked them about an official document describing this procedure. They said they don't have any...

Service appointment for 12 month old Model 3 for range loss /invoice for out of warranty inspection?

If they wrote it down in the invoice, that sounds like they are getting this recommendation from the headquarters. So, did only they reset your BMS to 310 miles without any physical work on the battery? Did they also recommend not to start charging if the car was still above a certain...

M3 straight line in the energy graph shows "Typical" instead of "Rated"

That's not completely correct. In fact, on X and S you can choose between "Rated" and "Typical" and "Typical" shows less range than "Rated". "Rated" is based on "EPA" but "Typical" is more realistic. Also, go to google images and see how many cars show "Rated" instead of "Typical": Google Image...
  48. L

    How is this even possible?

Umm.... Maybe your car is also using Typical instead of Rated? Perhaps different cars have different typical values? Take a look: M3 straight line in the energy graph shows "Typical" instead of "Rated"

M3 straight line in the energy graph shows "Typical" instead of "Rated"

My car is consistently reporting a range loss of 5%. But then I found out something interesting after a discussion with @TimothyHW3 (Charging everyday?). The solid straight line in my (European) M3 shows "Typical" range instead of "Rated" range in the Energy Graph screen. Does anyone else...
