Would you be comfortable letting your car sit at about 8% charge overnight?

I have about 160 miles to drive later tonight, ending at a hotel. From past experience I expect my S60 will have about 8% of it’s battery left after 160 miles. Unfortunately the hotel doesn’t have a charger, but there is one a mile or two from the hotel that I plan to use tomorrow morning...

Model S Battery Pack - Pressure Decay Valve??

I have obtained a Model S battery pack from a salvage unit. I'm struggling to understand what a valve is for? It appears to be a spring loaded one way valve, installed in the electronics compartment of the pack on the upper surface . I know that the array compartments have numerous pressure...

Did we just get the 18650 current spec?

This little goody just showed up on the Tesla Shop page. It's powered by: That would seem to be greater than the assumed 18650 capacity in the early Tesla packs... and perhaps closer to the revised capacity of the 90 or 100KWh packs, but we've never seen an official current rating for them...

    12 Amp Destination Charger

Found this gem at my hotel in Savannah, GA tonight... thankfully there is a Supercharger about a mile away, so I was able to fill up the battery (and the tires)... Why even bother installing two destination chargers on a 12amp circuit? Has anyone else run into dumb stuff like this?

    Strategy for Supercharger Charger Selection

I have seen in other posts that SC charging rates may vary from charger to charger. When pulling into a SC with a number of occupied and unoccupied chargers, is there a strategy for charger selection that will aid in getting the fastest charge rate? (At least until the occupancy distribution...

    Battery upgrade / replacement.

I have read some old posts about this topic but have not seen anything recently. I also saw an article online about a guy doing this and Tesla giving him credit for turning in his battery pack and it costing him 18k with installation. I have a S60 with 14k miles. I really could use the...

    Rear Heater in X

The rear heater is another unacceptable design flaw in the MX. the manual and Tesla service say "rear heater doesn't work if no passenger in back seat" but that is wrong. if the rear heat is set to manual, it should produce hot air from the vents on the rear door pillar. Mine did not and I...

    AC unit and Supercharging

Why are Warning types not listed on the owners guide?

i broke down last weekend 260 miles away from home with a warning that said, “car requires service. Car may not restart.” Roadside had it towed and we drove home in a rental. The two-Tesla charging cable conundrum

OK, with my Model 3 on order, I still haven't seen a discussion on this topic so will post it. I realize this is not unique to the Model 3, but can come up with any two Tesla's or EV's for that matter, but is certainly going to come up more with widespread Model 3 sales... the question is...

I've read things that lead me to believe the Model 3 comes with a 220 charging cable? I already have a 220 50 amp outlet in my garage from when I owned a Volt. I'm trying to figure out if I need to shell out the $500 for the Tesla wall charger or not. Can someone clarify please ?

New Model S, Bad Charge Port

I took delivery of my new 75D on December 22, at which point I did not have a home charger set up. For a three weeks I was using SemaConnect stations (J1772) and a couple of SuperChargers. Every time, connecting was fifteen or twenty minutes of frustration, jiggling the handle, plugging in...

    Is the range normal?

I got my Model S 75 on 12/2017, built 11/2017. The range according to the docs is 249 miles, but when I charge it up to 90%, it says 218 which means that 100% is ~242 miles. Is this normal or should I tell this to Tesla? I haven't had the opportunity to charge it up to 100% yet or ever got...

I am in the Chicagoland area and wanted to see if anyone has had an Powerwall installation in IL and who they used. I just took the plunge and placed a deposit. At work we have some free charging spaces but they're only accessible by the attendants that shuffle cars around and ensure as many as possible can get some juice. Real World Range — 3LR vs. S100D?

We know that Tesla-reduced range is 310 and 335, respectively. Actual EPA-tested was 334 and 344. And, with early favorable indications of 3LR efficiency — especially with Aero 18s — there’s reason to suspect that the real-world range of the cars is fairly close, rather than 25 miles apart...

    Is $9k worth 310 miles v 220?

Is it worth $9k to get 90 miles more? Is there other differences? Does not seem so and seems pricey. My fear is this price may drop. Are most people getting SR or LR? It's like I want the car now bad so LR but $9k is a lot.

    Battery Size thoughts

I've been driving EV's since 2011, my first being a conversion I did myself of a 1985 Mazda RX-7 to 100% battery Electric. That car had only a 16 kwh battery and so the range was a maximum of 80 miles under optimum conditions (200 wh/mile). I could drive it like a madman on the worst days and...

    Not charging at 48 amp

Hi, I’ve been seeing some strange behavior with my home charging using the HPWC. I have a S 70 with 48 amp onboard. As you can see the first times I charged the vehicle, I was charging at 48 amps almost consistently. The last charges though have all been close to 46 amps. Is this normal...

If I were to install a 110v outlet through an inverter, hooked to the battery, how quickly am I gonna drain the 12v battery while the car is parked and the inverter is powering some heavy use items? I'm scheduled to take delivery of my MS some time in March, free supercharging and all. Battery kWh usable percentage - real evidence

A question came up in another post about percentage of battery available for driving. I saw a new message this morning. I remember feeling like I hadn’t pushed the charging plug in properly last night, and this morning when I checked the app it showed a message I hadn’t seen before. It had automatically set the charge speed to 16A at 240V. Normally I have it at 25A.

    Limited regen going downhill

I had something happen on my 3 this morning that has never happened on my S. My commute involves a 1800' climb over a pass followed by an 1800' descent. I usually get a couple kWh back going downhill (although I spend a lot more than that on the climb). This morning it was raining and about...

TeslaFi and TripB indicate different consumption

Not sure if this exact item has come up before. I searched and couldn't find an exact match. My question is this: On a relatively short commute (~88km), the car's trip meter says I consumed 16.0 kWh, but TeslaFi says I consumed 18.55. This happens quite consistently. As a result all other...

    Tesla UMC Questions

I own a KHONS adjustable portable EVSE for my Nissan Leaf. It allows me to change between 12A, 16A, 20A, and 32A, regardless of input voltage. Tesla Wall charger v. Plain old NEMA 14-50

    Trickle charge to 100%

good thing this is a once-over, but what do people think of 120v/12A charging to “trip” capacity? At 4mph 5-15 with a 75D, battery probably spends a good 6-7h between 90 and 100% SOC.

    2013 S60 with new battery

I just saw a cheap 2013 S60 for sale. It would be the original non software limited version. Energy impact- Heated Seets and wiper discussion

I think all New England EV owners are aware of what cabin-heating does to range. So I ask, Model S owners without sub zero upgrade in VT, NH...

Vampire Drain Test: With and Without 24x7 Dashcams

In another thread a member asked about how much vampire drain is caused by 24x7 (always on) use of a dual-channel (2 camera) dash cam. Slower than advertised Supercharging?

I've had my new Model S 75D for about three weeks now and I love it. We've taken it from where we live in Northeast PA to Long Island, NYC, Boston and Ohio so far.
