Paine also served as Executive Producer on “Bikes vs Cars,” “Charge!,” “William Gibson: No Maps for These Territories,” and the Ewan McGregor narrated racing doc “Faster.” He has appeared on “The Daily Show” with Jon Stewart, “Democracy Now,” and “Science Friday” on NPR.

Current projects include films about AI, nuclear power, and a potential third film in his electric car trilogy.

Who Killed the Electric Car? (2006) is a fascinating documentary about the GM EV1's rise and fall (or was it pushed?). The film was made two years before the release of the Tesla Roadster. The rest, as they say, is history.

Speaking of history, I saw this beauty, a Baker Electric, at the Toyota Automobile Museum in Nagoya, Japan. Its range was 80 km and top speed 40 km/h. In the film, Phyllis Diller is interviewed about her beloved Baker Electric, which was very popular with women at the time.
