I was feeling a bit left out of the fun of typing ☰ on my Chromebook, so with the kind help of Mr. Google I found the solution:
Hold down Ctl + Shift + U;
let go of the keys -- an underlined u will remain;
type 2630 followed by a space for the desired unicode character
I gather this works for Ubuntu too, and perhaps any Linux disto that uses the same unicode engine. Debian seems like a good bet; I don't know about others.
