Interesting nytimes article:
Rural Chinese Flock to Tiny Electric Cars - NYTimes.com
Take-home for me is that despite huge government incentives, only 8.159 full-sized EVs were sold in China last year (2011). Compare to the mini e-car (50kph top speed) market where Shifeng is making 100 a day! 369,800 RMB for a BYD e6, vs 31,600 RMB (about US$5,000) for a mini e-car from Shifeng.
The issue is that I suspect what is being displaced is not gas-guzzlers, but bicycles.
