I am a little bummed that the OBD may not work as an unswitched source. And, it looks like the tow hitch connector is not available on more recently produced cars. So, it looks like we have switched by tapping into the cigarette lighter adapter, and the diagnostic port. I may use the diagnostic port as there would be no tapping of wires at all.

I really would like non-switched access for my Blackvue

TAP or cut this positive wire going through the firewall for unswitched power. I was going to cut this and install a fuse block, but ended up taking unswitched power from the rear control module.

That looks like a pretty big power wire! Direct from the DC/DC?

I was thinking the same thing. How does one go about safely taping a wire like that? Also, can you please orient me as to where I am looking? I am guess the driver's footwell given the OBD connector.

Yes its located in the driver's left footwell. It's an 8AWG which comes from the driver's side VC front. You could disconnect the harness from the VC or just pull the battery. Then cut and splice in a new fused distribution block.

“Cut and splice”? Sounds like something terrifying to do on a brand new Tesla, on what is a very large and obviously very important wire. I am willing to explore this, though I would prefer something more reversible if possible.
Let me ask, if one where to have access to the proper VC connectors, would it be possible to create our own extension harness, with a T within it to access power for a fuse block? Plug in play style. Just throwing out wild ideas…

Also tried this and tapped the only wire that had power (YELLOW) and it was a constant power line. Power didn't shut off when I

If you are looking for a power wire that’s always on the yellow wire in my picture that is ran to the plug mark D will work. It’s the plug for the cell phone charger.

Also the bundle that I tapped to for my radar also has the same wire for the wireless charger I’m just not sure which wire it is.

I pretty sure the wireless charger isn't constant. I have my laser jammer connected to it and I believe it turns off after a few minutes.

Can I get a picture of your laser jammers? I have a set for my Escort 8500, but have never installed them. It is an infraction here in California, and I'm only willing to put them in if they are super discreet

The wire from the Cigarette lighter plug can be found running on the passenger side of the console running from the plug to the footwell area. It is in a bundle and is the larger (thicker) red wire. pic attached.
Where is the access for this? The carpet on the side of the console on passenger side? Any pics that aren’t so close up so I can get an idea of where to go after?
Thanks for the help!

Btw my car built 8/21 has no trailer plug.

it is on the passenger side of the console (I will see if I can find more pics). But if you follow the side of the console down into the footwell the side pulls off (snap type of push pins behind it). Pull firmly and it should "pop" off working from the foot area back towards the seat area.

Here is the video from a Facebook user that shows where the wire is. Please note the first part of what he does (removing the iPhone charging dock, etc) is not needed for access to the wire on the side of the console shown during the second half of the video. FB Video

I had the same issue but here it is. Pull straight towards your from the corner closer to the front end. I didn’t removed it just pulled enough to get access.

I wired in my Valentine 1 radar on my Plaid to the mirror / front camera housing. There is only one spot, it runs about 5-7v, its the red and black wire I believe on the 4 prong connector (has a purple and brown as well) located driver side under the rear view mirror main cover.. its a Very thin wire so you must be ultra delicate working with it. That is the only tappable line in that area.. all others including under headliner light connectors do not work or give a variable signal.

I have had the radar working for a week now.. However, today for the first time I have a car malfunction, adaptive suspension reduced, traction control reduced, steering reduced. I powered off the car and let it sit for 15min and it worked fine. I think I glitched the computer by hitting the brake as I was getting in the car causing multiple start ups to over lap (the AC, screen, and powertrain)... I do Not think it is associated with my radar tapping because its a front camera thing and all my cameras and such worked just fine and had no faults.. I also unplugged the radar to eliminate current draw and it didnt change the error so 99% they are unrelated... ***I will follow up again here with an Edit if it happens again so if you dont see an update here then do not worry....***

As far as im concerned its a done deal, works great, no issues and a good source.. The valentine runs on 5v+ per manual, so if your looking for a full 12v look elsewhere. I did find one 12v-14v line also to the interior camera but I believe it had major swings and although my V1 turned on, it did not like the power source for some reason and gave a wierd half lit screen on the radar with no control over functions

Have any photos of the wire? How do you pop off the panel/cover to access?

Can removing / pulling this area near the center console gain enough room to shove a cigarette lighter plug to access the cigarette 12v port plug? Or how can I can access and run a cable along there to the cigarette port?
