Hello all

Came across 2 videos last night on YouTube of Model X owner's 12v battery dying cause the vehicle to be disabled until either battery replacement or jumped.

Was curious if this issue is something to be concerned about?

A 12V failure will stop any modern EV - they're designed that way for safety reasons.

I haven't read of a systemic problem causing 12V issues with the Model X so far.

How is that situation any different from an ICE.
Not different, but generally EVs are better than ICE, so I think we should expect more.

A measly 12V battery shouldn't incapacitate a vehicle that has up to 100kwh of battery just sitting there.

It would be like dieing of thirst on the beach of a beautiful lake.

The 12v needs to power the contacter for the dc-dc converter. After that it's really only needed for surge 12v loads. I vaguely remember an early ev that had a manual button on the contacter. If the 12v failed you could manually close the contacter to get the vehicle started. I believe it was hidden in the glove box.
