anyone know if there are any h/w our physical changes between 2019 and 2020 models?

Model year doesn't mean much. Tesla do continuous product changes both good and bad and its not tied to a product year. Some can also be retrospectively applied via software, and it is possible that this range improvement is included in this. Tesla have tweaked quoted range a number of times and by tweaking software, how it is displayed.
 
I'm thinking this is the combination of Tesla removing conservatism in their numbers recently and the new firmware that's supposed to get five percent more power from better inverter coding - which will presumably mean less energy needed for the same power delivered, hence better efficiency.
