15A outlet installation in Australia

In my garage, I have a 12 A outlet and I am considering to install a 15A outlet so that I can charge 'slightly' quicker.

My questions are -
1. How much quickly does it charge? (12 A vs 15 A)
2. The electrician has quoted $800 to install the 15A outlet as it needs a dedicated circuit apparently. Do we need a separate dedicated circuit? Is $800 reasonable

I assume you mean you have a 10A outlet (the common Aus one).
It will charge at approx 2.3kW (230V * 10A).
A 15A outlet will charge 50% quicker (approx 3.5kW), or alternately put the same amount of energy in in 2/3 the time.

(Assuming you have a Tesla UMC with 10A and 15A tails).

Reality is any continuous (or near continuous) load should be on its own circuit anyway, though many will charge off a lightly loaded existing circuit in a garage (most likely a handful of 10A plugs on a 20A breaker).

Depending on overall power supply a 32A outlet might not be much more than a 15A outlet.

Yep if you're paying labour anyway for a new dedicated circuit, get a 32A run with a 3 phase round socket wired to single phase and get a 3 phase tail for the UMC. Will charge at 7kw max then.

Is what I did in my last house. Cost difference was negligible and ability to charge must faster if you need to or take more advantage of off peak or cheap charge times or solar.

You decide.

My electrician quoted a friend $800 to install a 32A 3-phase switched socket on a single phase 6mm² protected circuit. The board was on the same wall as the socket so cable run was less than 6m. Together with the Gen2 UMC 32A adapter he charges during the free period midnite to 4am so maximum power delivery was an important factor to consider.

Nickdp, were you at the Keith charger last Friday around 1:30

This is how I did it. Actually it is wired for 40amp so it can be derated to 32 A continuous going into a Tesla wall unit, which doesn't cost much more than the plug in one. That gives 7.some kW at 32A and 240v single phase.

I estimate flat to 80% would take 11 to 12hrs at that rate.

Thanks!

Sorry to jump in the post, I can't seem to post in Charging Adaptors keeps saying I need to login (eventhough I already logged in several times).

I buggered up my 10A powerplug tail. Anywhere to get a replacment? See pic how badly I messed it up.. reluctant to say how I did it but will leave it to imagination!

EVSE / EV Chargers etc all sell replacement tails, just google Tesla UMC tail and a few pop up

Use the Tesla app to request Service, put in the request that you need a replacement tail for the UMC. It'll probably book an appointment but when the service people review it they'll cancel that and just tell you to drop in to pick up the tail.

You got me lol.

Ok have submitted through the app and will provide feedback. Does the app also shows you the submitted request or send email for confirmation>

The 3rd party replacements are expensive and Tesla customer service initially mentioned they don't have it.
Yes, you can follow your request in the App.

If Tesla dont have spares you could always go down the rabbit hole of weighing up getting a sparkie to replace your powerpoint with a 15A socket and use your other tail until telsa have stock (if you dont go aftermarket)
