So I got a flat yesterday driving on the freeway and was assisted quickly by Tesla Roadside with a wheel loaner swap.
My tires were just replace at 9500 miles by America’s Tires with exact same 19” Pro Contact RX CSI series because of bad alignment from the factory causing an uneven wear on the front inner tread. So I swapped all 4 since a sale was going on and I was around 4/32s on the rears.
I am currently at 15000 miles with a better wear rate post alignment at 8/32 in the front and 7/32 in the rears with 5.5k miles added.
So I went to America’s Tire to order a warranty replacement for the flat since Continental has a tire replacement with 7/32 or higher remaining tread wear on the road hazard warranty.
While there it was mentioned that the factory Continental replacements were under rated for the weight of the car. Although I said how confused I was since I stated these were factory tires and designed for Tesla 19” sport tires, they mentioned that America’s Tire has a higher recommendation for a Y rated tire versus the factory W rated and offered to swap the whole set for Michellin Pilot Sport AS3+ at no cost.
So I’m a little confused as to the reasoning and hope someone may possibly have some insight as to why America’s Tire feels the factory tire is under rated.
