All that said, I'm still debating my "spare" strategy. I have a decent quality plug kit but also now considering a "Road Hero" in case it really does go badly wrong. Problem there is no room for it on the journeys where I'd most likely need it :(
Yes, space is the issue. I completely understand why it is a good idea, but I simply wouldn’t be able to fit it in on the journeys where it would most likely be of benefit.

Now I’m getting on a bit, I also don’t relish the prospect of changing a wheel on a busy road in the dark and cold either.
 
Well I went for full winters on 19s and stuck with Michelin.
