Its all for press. Very creative of him, he will make 5x more money in YouTube ads than the car was worth but many vehicles that sell on eBay are never paid for and they must be relisted elsewhere. As a matter of fact, many items over $500 have non paying buyers, and somehow eBay has never come up with a setting for "don't let people under XXX number of completed transactions bid."

At $100k for a car worth about $2k it's obviously not legitimate but extremely clever! I applaud the creator

There's no way that auction was going to get $100k payment. As mentioned, at that point, it's just people that want to bid on the hysteria and have no intention of paying for the item. The auction looks to be closed.

This kind of reminds me of an old fan video for the 1988 Dodge Aries K. "Bench Seat ... Standard ... Booya!"

Well, this guy just got a crash course in disappointment...

Apparently by mistake, eBay yanked the listing when it reached $150k:

UPDATE * Ebay has canceled the original auction in error and has asked us to start the auction over. Updated link is in the description! We were told that someone from their fraud department, who was unaware of the commercial / story, could not believe that a 1996 Honda Accord was going for $150,000 and ended the auction. Per Ebay's request, we have restarted the auction back at its original starting price of $499. We will have more updates later today.

New high bid price? $1675:

Guess the hype is (mostly) over...
