My first day of driving was planned out with ABRP (A Better Route Planner) using 5% battery degradation because that is about what I have in my Bolt and I didn’t think to use a different number for the MYP. Since my actual battery degradation is -8% at this point this means I charged more than needed at most stops by a significant amount.

Started out at 06:09 and drove 154 miles to Tupelo, MS Supercharger in 2 hr 12 min. Average speed 70 mph with max speed of 80 mph. This consumed 44.6 kwh (3.45 m/kWh) 290 wh/mi. Gained a whopping 54 feet of elevation and the weather was 65 F at start of trip rising to 72F by the time we got to Tupelo MS and clear weather with 6 mph wind. (TeslaFi doesn’t give wind direction)

Supercharged In Tupelo MS for 29 min going from 34% to 83% gaining 38.65 kWh. Average charging power was 79.97 KW

Left Tupelo at 08:55 and drove 135.4 miles to Birmingham, AL Supercharger in 1 hour 50 min, average speed 74 mph with max speed of 80 mph. This consumed 43.4 kWh (3.12 m/kWh) 320 wh/mile. Gained 318 feet of elevation this leg and weather was humid with starting temperature of 76F end temp of 83F and 4 mph wind.

Supercharged In Birmingham, AL for 31 min going from 19% to 81% gaining 48.71 kWh. Average charging power was 94.3 KW

Left Birmingham, AL at 11:22 and drove 144 miles to Columbus, GA Supercharger in 2 hr 32 min, average speed 59 mph, max speed 74 mph. This consumed 41.5 kWh (3.47 m/kWh) 288 wh/mi. Lost 182 feet of elevation this leg and weather was overcast with starting temp of 86F and end temp of 87F and 6.7 mph wind.

Supercharged In Columbus, GA for 36 min going from 20% to 87% gaining 53 kWh. Average charging power was 88.3 KW

Left Columbus, GA at 14:35 and drove 177.6 miles to Valdosta, GA Supercharger in 2 hr 48 min, average speed 63 mph, max speed 80 mph. This consumed 51.1 kWh (3.48 m/kWh) 287 wh/mi. Lost 203 feet of elevation this leg and weather was overcast with starting temp of 87F falling to 80F by the end. 12 mph wind.

Supercharged In Valdosta, GA for 25 min going from 12% to 72% gaining 47.56 kWh. Average charging power was 114.1 KW

Left Valdosta, GA at 17:58 and drove 104.7 miles to Gainesville, FL Supercharger in 1 hr 29 min, average speed 70 mph, max speed 81 mph. This consumed 34.4 kWh (3.04 m/kWh) 329 wh/mi. Lost 128 feet of elevation this leg and weather was overcast with starting temp of 73F rising to 79F by the end. Wind 9 mph.

Supercharged In Gainesville, FL for 43 min going from 22% to 90% gaining 53 kWh. Average charging power was 74.0 KW

Left Gainesville, FL at 20:17 and drove 180.4 miles to Hotel in Sarasota, FL in 2 hr 33 min, average speed 70.7 mph, max speed 80 mph. This consumed 56.3 kWh (3.20 m/kwh) 310 wh/mi. Lost 50 feet of elevation starting temp 79F and 76F by the end. Wind was 6 mph.

We charged over night at the hotel, and spent a day at the Siesta Key Beach, and going out to eat at Jollibee in Tampa. I am not going to detail the local driving other than to say we drove 118 miles locally. Spent a second night at the hotel charging up to 90% and then finishing the charge to 100% while eating Breakfast in the Hotel before continuing our Journey Saturday morning at 08:00… that will be for another post :cool:

Started out from hotel in Sarasota, FL with 100% going to Fort Myers, FL to pick up set of Gemini wheels and tires.

Started out at 08:00 and drove 87.1 miles to Fort Myers, FL to home of person selling wheels and tires in 1 hr 22 min, average speed was 64 mph with max of 80 mph. This consumed 27.7 kWh (3.14 m/kWh) 313 wh/mi. Lost a whopping 5 feet of elevation with humid conditions and 3 mph wind. Temp at start of trip was 81F and 84F at the end.

Hung out shooting the breeze with the seller for a while after loading up the wheels and tires in the back of the MYP. No charging this stop. From here on we have over 200 lbs of additional cargo in the form of wheels and tires.

Started out at 10:06 and drove 136.3 miles to Davenport, FL supercharger in 2 hr 49 min, average speed was 50 mph with max speed of 98 mph. This was two lane state highway, that slow average is due to driving through towns, stop lights etc, the high max was passing someone. This consumed 36.8 kwh (3.70 m/kWh) 270 wh/mi. Gained 117 feet of elevation with humid conditions and 3 mph wind. Temp at start of this leg was 86F, rising to 95F by the end.

Supercharged In Davenport, FL for 13 min going from 6% to 54% gaining 37.3 kWh. Average charging power was 172.2 KW


Started out at 12:13 and drove 79.4 miles to Daytona Beach, FL supercharger in 1 hr 33 min, average speed 51 mph with max speed of 80 mph. Once again two lane state highway. This consumed 22.1 kWh (3.59 m/kWh) 279 wh/mi. Lost 112 feet of elevation with humid cloudy conditions and 4 mph wind. Temp at start of this leg was 97F and fell to 94F by the end.

Supercharged In Daytona Beach, FL supercharger for 19 min going from 21% to 73% gaining 40.87 kWh. Average charging power was 129 KW


Started out at 14:14 and drove 125.3 miles to Kingsland, GA supercharger in 1 hr 42 min, average speed 75 mph with max speed of 90 mph. This consumed 37.9 kWh (3.31 m/kWh) 303 wh/mi. Zero elevation change with humid partly cloudy conditions and 4 mph wind. Temp at start 96F and fell to 88F by the end.

Supercharged In Kingsland, GA for 18 min going from 18% to 65% gaining 37.19 kWh. Average charging power was 124.0 KW


Started out at 19:01 and drove 114.7 miles to Hardeeville, SC supercharger in 1 hr 29 min, average speed 77 mph, max speed 88 mph. This consumed 34.8 kWh (3.30 m/kwh) 304 wh/mi. Lost 7 feet of elevation with humid partly cloudy conditions and 6 mph winds. Temp at start 92F falling to 86F by the end.

Supercharged In Hardeeville, SC for 31 min going from 14% to 81% gaining 52.6 kWh. Average charging power was 101.8 KW


Started out at 21:04 and drove 120.6 miles to Hotel in Benson, NC in 1 hr 43 min, average speed was 70 mph with max of 80 mph. This consumed 36.5 kWh (3.30 m/kwh) 304 wh/mi. Gained 112 feet of elevation with humid partly cloudy conditions and 6 mph wind. Temp at start was 73F rising to 76F by the end. Charged up to 90% over night, and then the last 10% while eating breakfast at the hotel.


Next day was just a short jaunt to my wife’s best friends house in North Carolina, so I will include that in this post.

Left Hotel in Benson NC at 09:37 and drove 187.0 miles to wife’s best friends house in 2 hr 49 min, average speed was 66 mph with max speed of 85 mph. This consumed 54.3 kWh (3.44 m/kwh) 294 wh/mi. Lost 230 feet of elevation. Weather was humid and overcast with 9 mph wind. Temp at start 84F dropping to 75F by the end.

Total distance traveled this leg of the trip was 1007.72. The only reason it was broken into 2 days is my wife is a bit nutty and didn't want to arrive late at night at her friends house, she wanted to arrive the next day instead. <sigh>

At this destination I broke out the 50’ 240V extension cord and mobile connector to connect up to their dryer outlet. I use the 14-50 pigtail with the extension cord, so I manually set the charging amps to 24 for use on their 30 amp dryer outlet. I did local driving totaling only 41 miles. Also swapped over to the Gemini wheels and tires.

Funny story there, the friends we were staying with didn’t have a torque wrench, and the guy didn’t believe me that his impact with 80 lb-ft of torque wouldn’t be enough. One of the side trips for me was going to Harbor Freight and getting a torque wrench. I tightened the lugs in 3 stages. 77 lb-ft, 103 lb-ft, and 129 lb-ft. When I did the initial 77 lb-ft round of torqueing I had significant motion on all lug nuts… I would estimate that my friends impact probably got the lug nuts to around 60 lb-ft of torque! Also, tire pressure after this first drive and then letting the car sit over night (cold pressure) was around 36 psi. I bumped them up to 45 psi in preparation for the drive home. I charged up to 90% and then packed away my mobile connector and 50’ 240V extension cord the day before we left, and we were at 88% when we pulled out of the driveway to start the journey home.

PS: Weird thing about TeslaFi The times at Supercharges are one time zone while times for drives between superchargers are based on a different time zone… what is up with that?
 
I have been including elevation changes in my previous posts even though they were not huge because I knew that this last section had some significant elevation changes. This should have an effect on efficiency.

Started out at friend’s house in North Carolina at 06:00 with 88% SOC and drove 178.3 miles to the Raleigh, NC supercharger in 2 hr 49 min, average speed 64 mph, max speed 85 mph. This consumed 51.4 kWh (3.47 m/kWh) 288 wh/mi. This was with a gain of 351 feet of elevation with mostly cloudy humid conditions and 10 mph wind. Temp at the start was 78F and it was 86F at the end.

Supercharged in Raleigh, NC for 17 min going from 13% to 56% gaining 33.3 kWh. Average charging power was 117.5 KW.


Started out at 09:12 and drove 92 miles to the Colfax, NC supercharger in 1 hr 17 min, average speed 70 mph, max speed 80 mph. This consumed 25.2 kWh (3.65 m/kwh) 274 wh/mi. This was with a gain in elevation of 600 feet. So, indications so far going at high speed up hill I am much more efficient with the Gemini’s than I was on the Uberturbine’s on fairly level ground. Weather was humid and overcast with 6 mph winds. Temp was pretty steady at 88F to 90F for this leg of the trip.

Supercharged In Colfax, NC for 7 min going from 21% to 52% gaining 24.7 kWh. Average charging power was 211.7 KW.


Started out at 10:46 and drove 82.2 miles to the Hickory, NC supercharger in 1 hr 6 min, average speed 74 mph, max speed 82 mph. This consumed 21.5 kWh (3.82 m/kwh) 262 wh/mi. This was with a gain in elevation of only 32 feet. Weather was overcast with 10 mph winds. Temp was pretty steady at 92F to 94F for this leg of the trip.

Supercharged In Hickory, NC for 9 min going from 27% to 53% gaining 20.2 kWh. Average charging power was 134.7 KW.


Started out at 12:10 and drove 83.6 miles to Asheville, NC supercharger (the one at the outlet mall) in 1 hr 17 min, average speed 64 mph, max speed 80 mph. This consumed 23.8 kWh (3.51 m/kwh) 286 wh/mi. This was with an elevation gain of 1,184 feet! Weather was light rain, (this caused the lower average speed) with 12 mph winds. Temp started out at 95F but dropped down to 88F due to the rain.

Supercharged In Asheville while the wife shopped in the outlet mall for 65 min going from 18% to 100% gaining 64.9 kWh. Average charging power was 59.9 KW. Just at the end of the charge a massive thunderstorm rolled through… had to break out the umbrella and go rescue the wife


Started out at 14:53 and drove 217.2 miles to Cookeville TN supercharger in 3 hr 17 min, average speed 67 mph, max speed of 80 mph. This consumed 53.0 kWh (4.10 m/kWh) 244 wh/mi. This was with a loss of 1,075 feet of elevation. The start of this leg was in heavy rain, the tapered off by the end with wind of 13 mph. Temp started out at 72F, rose to 95F, dropped back down to 78F and ended up at 92F at the end of this leg of the trip.

Supercharged In Cookeville, TN for 12 min going from 23% to 61% gaining 30.1 kWh. Average charging power was 150.5 KW.


Started out at 18:30 and drove 77.4 miles to Nashville, TN supercharger in 1 hr 4 min, average speed 74 mph, max speed 80 mph. This consumed 20.2 kWh (3.83 m/kWh) 261 wh/mi. This is with a loss of 594 feet of elevation. Weather was overcast with 7 mph winds. Temp at start was 96F falling to 93F by the end.

Supercharged In Nashville, TN for 14 min going from 32% to 67% gaining 27.7 kWh. Average charging power was 118.7 KW.


Started out at 19:52 and drove 135.4 miles to Jackson, TN supercharger in 1 hr 54 min, average speed 72 mph, max speed 93 mph. This consumed 36.8 kWh (3.68 m/kwh) 272 wh/mi. This is with a loss of 82 feet of elevation. Weather was mostly cloudy with 7 mph wind. Temp started out at 93F and dropped down to 84F by the end of this section.

Supercharged In Jackson, TN for 21 min going from 14% to 66% gaining 40.8 kWh. Average charging power was 116.6 KW.


Started out on the last leg of the trip home at 22:11 and drove 126.5 mile to our house in 1 hr 48 min, average speed 70 mph, max speed 80 mph. This consumed 34.6 kWh (3.66 m/kWh) 274 wh/mi. This is with a loss of 196 feet of elevation. Weather was partly cloudy with 3 mph wind. Temp at start was 86F and 79F at the end.

Total distance traveled this day was 992.81 miles.

I will do a “summary” post of daily totals in miles driven, average speed, energy consumed, efficiency and totals for the entire trip.

992.6 miles driven in 14 hr 32 min (872 min) average speed 68.3 mph, max speed 90 mph. Net elevation gain 220 feet. Total energy used 266.5 kWh (3.72 m/kWh) 271 wh/mi.

Total charging time at superchargers 2 hr 25 min (145 min) total kWh gained 241.7 kWh. Average charging power 100 KW.

Total trip time not including wasted time 16 hr 57 min. Actual trip time 06:00 to midnight was 18 hours.



So, on the Uberturbine’s for the majority of the trip running an average speed of 65 mph in clear weather over 1746.5 miles with minor up and down elevations and a net 316 feet of elevation loss I averaged 3.35 m/kwh, 303 wh/mi. That would give me a max range under these driving conditions of 260 miles from 100% down to 0%, or an 80% to 10% range of 180 miles.

Then on the Gemini’s running an average speed of 68.3 mph in rainy weather over 992.6 miles with over 1000 ft elevation gain and then loss for a net elevation gain of 220 ft I averaged 3.72 m/kwh, 271 wh/mi. That would give me a max range under these driving conditions of 290 miles from 100% down to 0%, or an 80% to 10% range of 200 miles.

You loss more energy going up hill than you regain from regeneration on the down slope, so gains from the Gemini’s would be even better on a flat land trip in clear weather without the rain I was actually driving in.

This is some great info and much appreciated. I have a MYP on order and was debating whether to get 19" for fall/winter set and this helped seal the deal with more efficiency.
