2.5 to 3.0 FSD hardware done by mobile service?

I know when they started doing the 2.5 to 3.0 hardware upgrades you had to bring the car in. Is that still true, or have they started doing it with mobile service?

Had mine done about 2 months ago and had to bring it in to SC. To my knowledge it’s still done at the SC.

Before I brought my 3 in to be updated a mobile tech told me: Models S & X can be done by mobile service - computer is air cooled by a fan. Model 3 needs to be done at a SC - computer is liquid cooled by main cooling system a much more complicated upgrade.

I've posted my story several times before, but I had mobile service come out and install HW3 in my 3 last month. I believe he was based out of the Santa Clara, CA SC but I could be wrong (maybe Fremont?). There was no problem with him dealing with the cooling line(s) and total time in his hands was about 90 minutes.

FWIW, A friend of mine got his HW 3.0 upgrade on his M3P+ about a month ago and it was done at his house by a mobile Tech. I had a mobile tech at my house about 2 weeks ago for a spoiler replacement and asked him if he was also going to do my 3.0 upgrade and he said no, but they had been doing a lot of them recently, like 3-4 a week per mobile tech. He said it's about a 2hr job.

Took the mobile service guy less than an hour in my driveway.
