20" Model X Slipstream Wheels on Model S

Hey,

I am thinking about buying a set of 265/45 r20 tires with wheels and selling my 245/45 r19 wheels.

Can you please tell me:
1) Will the 265/45 r20 ones fit our Model S?
2) Will the 265/45 r20 ones be stiffer than the 245/45 r19 ones? I suspect that the the 265/45 r20 will be softer because they are wider and are the same height. No?

Thank you!
1. Will NOT fit (see answer #2 below)
2. Are NOT the same height (original is 27-5/8” dia; proposed is 29-3/8” dia).

Love the 20s but that tire size is not appropriate for a Model S.

I have the slipstream with 245/40 for the front and 275/35 for the rear... When I get to about 25mph(ish) the traction light flashes for a few seconds then goes off. I was wondering if anyone else has the same thing happen? Thanks

I don’t have that car anymore but I do remember changing the setting when the 20s were installed every spring and then again when the 19s went back on for the winter. Definitely didn’t leave it on the standard 19 Slipstream setting.

I tried swapping it to a staggard set up on 21's, but it still pops up and then goes away and then drives like it's supposed to.. Do you recall what psi you used in yours? Thanks.

21s vs 19s on the S only have a 5% lower range so I would imagine 20s would be less than that.

Our Raven S came with 21" Twin Turbines and I noticed an immediate 12% improvement in efficiency after switching to OEM 19" Slipstreams (300 Wh/m down to 264 Wh/m).

The 20s balance out the proportions better on the S. I always felt the 21s were a tad too big while the 19s a tad too small. The 20s are a nice compromise between style and efficiency but I don't like the staggered setup.

I don't understand when folks say the 20s fill the wheel well better. How is that so? I thought the overall diameter is equivalent to stock wheels and tires.

245/40/20; 275/40/20 (~1% speedometer discrepancy) Continental DWS 06...
If everything goes as planned, they will be FS tomorrow, as I'm trading in my car.

Thanks for this!

I just bought a used set of 20" Slipstreams, 9" wide front and 10" wide rear. They are powder coated to dark graphite color, almost black.

The front will be obviously 245/40-20, but I was wondering about the rear. 265/40-20 would match the dimensions of 21" Turbine 265/35-21, but seems to be really limited selection of tires available. 275/35 or 275/40 is much more common.

275/35 is slightly too small, smaller than 245/40 even. 275/40 is slightly too big.

But your car looks perfect. Same color as mine as well. :)

There. :) 245/40-20 front and 275/40-20 rear..

Front wheel is 9" wide, rear 10".

This is a great thread. If not for this I wouldn't have had the confidence to go forward with 20" Slipstreams for my winter setup.
@steph280 I can confirm it's a go on coil suspension.

Front: 20x9.0, Pirelli Winter SottoZero Serie II 245/40R20
Rear: 20x9.5, Pirelli Winter SottoZero Serie II 275/35R20

I actually have the wheels, tires, and TPMS in storage to assemble another similar setup. PM if interested. I'm in Chicago.

Thank you! Do the 9.x numbers refer to the depth of the wheel? That's one of the things I didn't understand. I didn't understand the 2xx values either but it's enough for me to know that they were 20" Slipstream wheels. :) Maybe I'll figure out the tire specs when I ever change the wheels on my car.
