I never imagined that this moment would ever occur. I bought my S2000 back in 2006 and I told myself that I would always own this car, “until the wheels fall off.” Well, life happens, things change, and I am now at the point where I believe this wonderful piece of automotive history is going to waste.
Long story short…
My current family mobile (Honda Accord) lease is coming to an end in a few months. I’ve considered the idea of daily driving the S2000, but now more than before, it is just not practical. Having a family of five makes it difficult to use the car as a grocery getter. If I do that, I would not be able to drop off or pick up my kids (need two car seats) from school like I do now. Switching cars with my wife is not a viable or convenient option either. In my opinion, my best option is to sell the S2000 and use what I get for it towards an Model 3
Over the past five years or so, the car has sat in a garage and only taken out and driven around the block once or twice a month to ensure everything works. Oil changes have still been done yearly, and of course the car gets cleaned to get rid of the dust that collects on it.
The car has always passed smog inspection here is California and has only been worked on by reputable shops here in SoCal and myself.
The car has had a 3M clear bra nearly its entire life. Due to its age, I recently removed the portion on the hood and fenders as it began cracking.
Being a black colored vehicle, I took extra care of ensuring my car was washed correctly (two bucket method) and even learned to detail it. I’m not a professional, but I believe I did a damn good job taking care of it. Those who know me (or remember me) that might still be in here know that I loved my car and really took care of it.
I will not lie and say that the car is mint, but its damn near perfect with only a few exceptions:
Convertible top – Always treated with 303 Aerospace Protectant. Top was changed by Honda back in 2009, right before the warranty on the car expired. There are no tears or holes, but it is starting to show normal wear and tear.
Passenger seat – A small tear occurred on the seat cushion. Immediately after happening, I applied a fabric patch to prevent it from further tearing.
Front Bumper – Someone backed into me while parked, resulting in a quarter size scrape down to the plastic and past the clear bra and paint.
Tires – Tires are old. The rears were replaced approximately 3 years ago with some used Pirelli Zeros 265/35/18. The fronts, (Sumitomo 225/40/18) have been on the car for about 10 years. All four tires have plenty of “meat” on them but should definitely be changed out.
