200mph. What does the Plaid actually need?

But on Tesla’s site it says this:

“The indicated Plaid top speed requires proper wheels and tires which will be available in Fall 2021.”

So… I guess that means that the Plaid needs a whole new set of wheels and tires, no matter which one you buy today. Is that right? So confusing…

No. Arachnids, supposedly, will work and so will the upcoming Zero G wheel but the current tires are not speed rated beyond 163mph. New tires will be needed with the arachnids.

My understanding is it's just the tires, as the current tires aren't rated for 200mph.

My guess would be they are having Michelin make some Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires especially for them.

That certainly makes sense. Just don’t understand why Tesla mentions wheels in their blurb…

Shouldn’t require new tires at all. My car came with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. Speed rating is Y, which is 186+ mph.

From my understanding the stock tyres are (Y). Even if they were only Y rated (without brackets), that means the tyres are rated for 300kmh+, well beyond the current 163mph limiter. Something feels a bit fishy about this whole situation.

I go back on what I said about the current tires not being rated for 200. The 21" tires are apparently.
