as far as charging the Leaf, do you have to get the $2000 piece of equipment installed (bigger turn-off than with the trickle charger)
i am looking into buying a Leaf for business and want to utilize existing NEMA 14-50 plugs, is that possible?

They've come down in price. I got mine for a little under $1,000 in 2013. I think you can get a hold of one for ~$500 now.

Here is one option you might consider.
ClipperCreek | EV Charging Stations | EVSE | Electric Vehicle Charging

I just bought a JuiceBox to charge our Leaf. Plugs into a 14-50 and is less expensive ($449) than the ClipperCreek.

Now I just have to get a second 14-50 installed. :)
