2013 rear drive unit failure

2013 rear drive unit failure, its either the gear or mounts. A thunk in low gear and a high pitch whining noise when accelerating...any suggestions??

2 bearings on the electric motor rotor shaft. Bearings are cheap, but the whole rear cradle has to come off for the replacement.

Rich rebuilds has a video on that. A rebuilt unit is a hard to find, but the quickest solution.

Okay so I figure the problem it's a cracked subframe, it's around 800-900 for the part and I'm not sure about the labor..gruber motors has a method that can fix the issue..does anyone know a shop in the bay area that can do the repairs ? Other then tesla s.f ?

My sister has one that has an electrical sound (high pitched frying bacon or welder type sound) that the service center said needs a whole new drive unit b/c it is the "link between the inverter and the motor"

Is that what you are referencing with your comment? Any way to solve it other than a full replacement? They want 6k for that.

Yes, that is a common noise with inverter troubles. 6k is worth it, hard to find a better car.

I had mine replaced around 40k for the winning noise. The replacement DU failed 20k later. $6k every 20k miles is not cheap even for a good car.

1st replacement was under the cars warranty. Does Tesla have a warranty for replacement drive units? They should last .ore than 20k miles.

4 years / 50k miles for customer pay replacements. DUs replaced under warranty do not carry any additional warranty beyond what came with the car.

The only thing that matters is what’s in writing. Tesla service center employees are a terrible source of information unfortunately.

If you pay for an out of warranty replacement, it’s covered for 4 years or 50k miles per the parts, body, and paint repair warranty.

If the drive unit is replaced under the original 8 year warranty that came with the car, there is NO additional warranty beyond the original 8 years, even if it was replaced on year 8 day 364 and failed again on year 9 day 1.

I have 2013 Tesla model s drive unit failed at 40k miles. Second drive unit failed at 90k miles. Now tesla asking for $15000 replacement for second drive unit. My tires out run the drive unit.

2013 model S 85 model. Milling noise. Loud noise when I’m driving at low speed.
