2013 S85 Battery Replacement (Out of warranty) - my experience

Six.

Old-style 85kwh modules are 444 cells in a 6s74p configuration. 6 bricks in series of 74 cells in parallel.

The new 14 module 350v pack uses the 6s86p module style originally introduced with the 100kwh pack - 6 bricks in series of 86 cells in parallel.
Great info, thanks. With the new 14 module 350v pack, does the penthouse contain any modules? Or are there two in the penthouse and 12 in the flat part of the pack?

Yup which is why I didn’t think the charge code was correct. That pack is a dinosaur. Think they just entered something random. I called and they are actually giving me a 90 14 cell pack.

I want to give a big thanks for everyone in this thread. Saved me $4k by simply selecting the cheaper option but still receive the newer pack!!!
Congrats! What is the part number?

If it’s like all other 14 module packs (60, 70, 75), the penthouse is empty.
Assuming the Model S cells are the same (18650) in both 14 and 16 module packs, I would think the 14 pack modules are larger (in width). That assumption is based on your valuable comment that the 14 module packs have 86 cells vs 74 in the 16 module packs. So I'm thinking the new 14 module packs have 12 in the "flat" and two in the penthouse. This pic and link show a 14 module pack.

My understanding is that the modules are exactly the same size. They changed the packaging/cooling to be able to fit more cells in the same space.

Yes, the new 350v packs are just the 100 kWh pack with 2 fewer modules. (They can make a reman 85/90kWh 350v pack by removing two failed modules from a 100kWh 400v pack.)
Sorry, math was never my strength. So does a 100 kWh pack have 16 modules? 14 in the flat and 2 in the penthouse?

Don't give up on me yet, I'm still learning after 6 months of ownership :)

This is the new invoice updated. Now I officially have no idea what’s going on in terms of what battery I’m getting.

I’ve read online this is just a place holder battery part for the invoice (10888015-01-F); last time I this battery was mentioned was Dec 2019 on this forum. Will update when the job is completed. Final damage $14,349.50 pre-tax including labor (went down $200).

That's the same part# that was on my initial invoice, but NOT what I ended up with, fwiw.

Interesting. My bill does not have the bolts however has a bunch of other charges.

update
SC just said I will be receiving an 85 with the new tech (no supercharge throttling) however it is not a 90 being limited to 85. Thus I’m guessing it’s a 85 400v that is not capped???

So it looks like I did not win the lotto booo -_-. Will report back on when I get the car and what the 100% is. As long as the 100% is 265 (back to the EPA estimated range with no degradation) I will be happy.

Sending you PM.

Based on the invoice you posted and compared to mine from last Nov, your Tesla Service Center is either "nickel and diming" you or my TSC was overly gracious.

I was not charged the following although I suspect they were done - your $105 Diagnosic check, your $210 HV Circuit Integrity Check, your $31.50 coolant drain and refill, your $105 Vehicle Electrical Isolation Procedure and your $10.50 firmware update.

Non related but germaine, I was also not charged for suspension hardware because I originally ordered a 85 reman, received an new 90 and my TSC honored my $13.5k reman quote.

My recommendation is to ask your TSC for some goodwill on the "nickel and dime" stuff. Please DO NOT use my example as your argument for goodwill. Either pricing policy is different between TSCs, or policy has changed in the past few months, or different TSCs are just that different, or any combination of the aforementioned. Thank you.
