The CPO warranty is 4yr/50k. Started in July 2017 at 42,592 miles.

The original post had July 2016 as the CPO date - that was wrong - it was July 2017. We've had this car for 6 months. Didn't realize the M3 orders would really start and went for an S and then a few weeks ago got my invite to order my 3 which will be here in a week. So the CPO date is July 2017

It's a 4yr/50k CPO.

See as much as I would love to buy a private Tesla, the issue is that there's no warranty extension for the buyer. By that I mean you can't add 50k miles of warranty or up to 100k miles.

That's right.... unfortunately except for this particular car (which has sold) is 2000 miles outside of the factory warranty and 1000 miles past eligibility for the ESA (see quote below). It's just one thing to watch out for.

But generally, yes, in a private sale for cars under 4years/50k miles, anyone can buy the ESA now, and you don't have to talk the original owner into buying it first.
