Salvage 2014 brown Tesla Model S with VIN 5YJSA1H1XEFP35649 on auction by Wednesday, October 08, 2014 | AutoBidMaster Well driver and front seat passenger most likely had a very little chance of surviving...
"how could you even get into crash like this?" Hitting a trailer or a metal/concrete overhang? I still hope they made it out alive.
I'm inclined to believe this car was unoccupied. Possibly even an incident before it was delivered. Can't see odometer though.
I have a vision of piano movers hiking a Steinway Concert Grand with ropes while the Tesla sits under it waiting to be destroyed.
Doesn't look like a crash. Plenty of survivable space if occupied, though I bet it was empty given only 9 rated miles and no signs of impact except from above.
I'm with the "something fell" crowd - there doesn't seem to be any rearward displacement, nor scrape marks. No clue if it was occupied at the time, but since it was stationary I'm thinking there's a good chance no one got hurt. Pretty much the perfect parts car - no damage to any of the systems, but the primary structure is unrecoverably crushed. Walter

If this was a crash from driving the Tesla I'd expect the airbags to be out. Also, the steering wheel seems to bent downwards and maybe even slightly forward. So I would expect something fell on it.
I agree something fell. Note the damage on the right rear roof. That's consistent with falling damage not with any sort of underride crash. Another note this vehicle appears to have been delivered, on the rear window you can see the sticker with the Tesla logo on it that Tesla uses to affix the temporary plate. If this happened in transit I don't believe that sticker would be there.
Seeing the battery so low, and in the red, I just want to charge it up a bit then worry about what happened or how to fix it....
Since the airbags haven't deployed, this car would probably drive (move forward under its own power, just about), although I'd expect the suspension and frame to be damaged so it's probably not economical to repair.
Definitely concur with the falling damage theory. Furthermore, the big dent on the rear right portion of the roof would not have happened in any sort of collision that I am aware of. Same with the driver's side door "pinching" outwards. Possibly a tree fell on top of it, with the tree trunk landing on the front portion and a branch hitting the back.
