I ordered a new, high capacity USB and followed the formatting and folder naming conventions to the letter, but my 2016 90D does not find it and display the dash cam icon on the center screen. Any suggestions would be welcome
@Ande: Not sure, actually. It's listed on the invoice as "Autopilot with Convenience Features" but it's listed as beta in the car's menu.
Depending on what month your car was built, you either have AP1 or AP2. However, that doesn’t matter much as regardless no car in 2016 has the hardware required to use Dashcam or Sentry mode. Only hw2.5 cars built in mid 2017 or newer can.
Which hopefully will change once tesla starts allowing mcu2 and ape retrofits for hw2/2.5 cars. Who knows when/if.
the dashcam icon would be on the screen even if you do not have any USB plugged in. The way you are describing along with the fact that you have a 2016 90D, i'm more than willing to bet you are MCU1 Do you have a setting for Sentry mode in your car? it should be there with or without anything plugged in
Mcu2 wasn't released until 2/2018, so it's absolutely an mcu1 car, with absolutely less than hw2.5. No dashcam, and no Sentry that will record to usb. Not worth going any further on this. The car can't.
thanks everyone. The owner's manual makes NO SUCH distinctions about AP, MCU, etc. I was just following the instructions there.
