Venue: The Tesla Factory In May of 2010, Tesla purchased the Tesla Factory in Fremont, California from New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. By combining top Silicon Valley engineering talent with the best automotive talent within a proven manufacturing facility, Tesla's goal is to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable transportation by building a full line of increasingly affordable electric vehicles. The Tesla Factory has returned thousands of jobs to the area and is capable of producing 1,000 cars a week. Production of the Model S began in mid-2012.
