2017-2020 P100D differences

The biggest difference will be in the mid-2019+ group due to the introduction of the Raven platform (different motor setup, adaptive suspension, more range, etc...).

Basically:
2017 - early 2018 - MCU1 / AP 2.5
March 2018 - MCU2 / AP 2.5
Late 2018 - phased out sunroof and rear-facing seats
July 2019 - Raven / AP 3.0
Feb 2020 - Long Range +, Cheetah stance, different front seats (I think)

Thanks Danny,

I was thinking they were the same car. Looks like they have changed quite a bit. I just noticed the 2021"s are rolling out with another 30-40 miles of range. Maybe I'll go for one of them. I wish i knew if they were going to update the body for 21-22.

Great post, with one correction, 2017 cars before Aug will have AP 2.0.

I went through this exercise in 2019 and ended up purchasing an early 2017 (February) P100D model. The primary reason why at the time was unlimited free transferable supercharging which I have certainly taken advantage of. I believe the original free charging offer ended in March 2017. Recently upgraded to the new computer and MCU2. Aside from black and white cameras (AP2.0) it is the same as the AP2.5 cars. I am serious looking at the tuner upgrade to get XM and FM back.

The price has dropped considerably on new vehicles so going through this process today I may opt for the new model.

This is a good list. To add, current Model S Performance got a huge range bump to 387 miles.

I have February 2019 built Model S P100D, and that included a sunroof, but not rear-facing seats or cooled seats.
02/19 - I was told it is the last Model S in Canada with a sunroof :(

The sunroof was phased out in Jan/2019.
Cooled seats in late ~ 2018

New Raven Model is much more efficient from the same battery pack. It also has better wiring to handle more heat and charging.
Currently, I am around 30,000km and I have noticed Tesla throttling my supercharging to around 110kW max, when brand new I used to get 180kW! on a V3 charger.

The range on a 2020 Raven vs a 2021 Raven is the exact same battery, motor, everything, they just re-worked the EPA to look more favourable for buyers to buy a new ''2021''. Also for re-sale value 2021 looks better than 2020. In all honesty, I would rather have a [Demo] or new 2021 Model S Performance for ~$90k rather than a 2016/2017 Model S P100D for ~$70k. 4/5 years newer car, many huge, and small improvements.

I just bought a 2016 P100D for $70k from Tesla.. More than happy with saving the $40k compared to a new one. Not enough difference to make up $40k. Had 30k miles, Ludicrous+, FSD with HW-3, premium connectivity , Sun Roof, 4 year warranty. Car is just like new. I have MCU 1 but I also have FM radio.
